It cuts down on time spent cleaning and transforming the data, improving productivity
Pros and Cons
  • "Alteryx effectively visualizes the flow of data and what happens at each stage. I also like that it's a no-code solution. I also like that you can troubleshoot certain parts of the workflow by putting them in a sandbox."
  • "Alteryx has cut down on time spent cleaning and transforming the data, improved productivity, and transitioning from PoC to other users was seamless because the users upskilled quickly and could take ownership without a steep learning curve."

What is our primary use case?

I'm a contractor who works on different teams. Right now, I'm working on three different projects.

How has it helped my organization?

Alteryx has cut down on time spent cleaning and transforming the data. It improved productivity. Transitioning from PoC to other users was seamless. The users upskilled quickly, so they could take ownership without a steep learning curve.

    What is most valuable?

Alteryx effectively visualizes the flow of data and what happens at each stage. I also like that it's a no-code solution. I also like that you can troubleshoot certain parts of the workflow by putting them in a sandbox.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Alteryx off and on since 2020.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Alteryx is stable.

How are customer service and support?

Alteryx customer service was great. They gave me a trial version, and the client company bought licenses. The technical support and the sales guys were all helpful and supportive.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I use Excel and Power Query. I don't use Alteryx personally because I don't have the funds for an enterprise solution.

    How was the initial setup?

Setting up Alteryx was straightforward. The drag-and-drop menus are fantastic, and the icons are great. There isn't a steep learning curve. You become familiar with it quickly.

Alteryx wasn't deployed in the previous project. It was somewhat irregular. We ultimately did the dashboard in Power BI, but nobody was using Power BI as a data cleaning and transformation tool, so we used Alteryx as a proof of concept, We also deployed the cleaned data to use in a dashboard, and the dashboard was delivered to the client.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Alteryx seven out of 10. I recommend using the 14-day trial version to learn how it works. You can use some of their in-house data to try real information or run a parallel. The trial version is super helpful for making a decision and understanding the capabilities. That's what kind of sold me.

Helpful support, beneficial intelligence suite, and reliable
    Pros and Cons
    • "The most valuable feature of Alteryx is the intelligence suite."
    • "Alteryx has improved our organization because it provides an easy way to build machine learning models as well as to do citizen data science work."
    • "Alteryx can improve the model management and deployment processing of large workloads."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Alteryx mostly for mission learning, forecasting, and predictive modeling use cases.

How has it helped my organization?

Alteryx has improved our organization because it provides an easy way to build machine learning models as well as to do citizen data science work.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Alteryx is the intelligence suite.

    What needs improvement?

Alteryx can improve the model management and deployment processing of large workloads.

In a future release, there should be more cloud integration with GCP. The ability to connect to GCP components as well as deploy things on the cloud would be beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Alteryx for approximately four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Alteryx is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have found Alteryx scalable in our usage, when we increase users we will see how it can adjust.

We have approximately 100 people using this solution in my organization. The users are from different departments, such as financial analysts, data scientists, and data analysts. We are using the solution extensively and plan to keep using it.

How are customer service and support?

    Alteryx support is good.

I rate the support from Alteryx a four out of five.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have not used other solutions in the same category in the company I work for.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Alteryx was straightforward. The full deployment took approximately three days to a week.

    What about the implementation team?

We did the implementation of Alteryx in-house. We have three to five people for the maintenance and deployment of the solution.

    What was our ROI?

To my knowledge, we haven't quantified, the return on investment, but we have seen a return on investment.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others is that the solution has a lot of room for expansion and they should get going on a couple of use cases, even if they are small automation use cases, and then build from there. You can always build in machine learning and more sophisticated use cases as you go along.

I rate Alteryx an eight out of ten.

Data preparation that saves time, is reliable, and has the ability to connect to a variety of sources
    Pros and Cons
    • "The drag-and-drop features are useful for data scientists who do not like to code because it is already in the system."
    • "I have a lot of business use cases where the ROI is less than a year, and sometimes even in three months."
    • "All of the reports are migrated or exported in an Excel file, and most of the time, a business intelligence tool is required. They could have better reporting. The aesthetic could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

Alteryx is typically used for data preparation and blending. I have clients who use it for Special Analytics as well as Churn Analytics.

How has it helped my organization?

Everything was manual and repetitive. With Alteryx, instead of spending three hours preparing the reports, it will only take them two minutes because everything is connected to the database.

    What is most valuable?

The drag-and-drop features are useful for data scientists who do not like to code because it is already in the system.

Alteryx has good prep and blend features, as well as the ability to connect to various sources.

    What needs improvement?

My understanding is that they will include a visualization feature.

All of the reports are migrated or exported in an Excel file, and most of the time, a business intelligence tool is required.

They could have better reporting. The aesthetic could be improved.

We have limitations on the number of fields. It doesn't really get everything if we have to add more columns.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Alteryx for four years.

We are working with the latest version.

We're working on both the design and the server version on-premise.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

So far Alteryx has been stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Alteryx is scalable. If you use the server, you simply add to the specifications based on the size of the data.

How are customer service and support?

I have not contacted Technical Support. I have a team of Alteryx experts, so we don't rely on other support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are also working with the Designer Platforms for four years. It includes the Data Science features.

We were working with the most recent version.

I am familiar with many solutions.

    How was the initial setup?

    The initial setup is fine.

Prebuilt connectors are available, and you may need to create middleware, particularly for SharePoint. Most clients have it in either SharePoint or GoDrive which doesn't have a direct connector, we will have to create another one.

As long as you are connected to the source countryside, the tool itself doesn't require any special maintenance.

    What was our ROI?

I have a lot of business use cases where the ROI is less than a year, and sometimes even in three months.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The designer version has a list price of $5,995 USD. The server version is even more expensive because it is only for collaboration. The designer license is needed to access the servers for collaboration, which in my opinion is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

    We were an Alteryx partner.

In terms of Alteryx, we resell the solution to our clients. I do have a team that handles the implementation. I specifically look for clients and see if there are any other excuse use cases that we can do with them.

Be aware of it, there are several versions, and there is a free trial that they can use. Once they understand how to do everything you're doing in the system, it's very simple to transfer it to Alteryx.

I would rate Alteryx an eight out of ten.

Connecting the solution to multiple sources is easier than other data modeling and extraction solutions.
    Pros and Cons
    • "Alteryx's connectivity is essential, and we like the ability to connect the solution to multiple sources because it's easier than other data modeling and extraction solutions and is built on a self-service concept, so it's easy for anyone to open the tool and directly import or export data from it."
    • "It would be nice if they can provide Alteryx with more options for In-DB connectivity. That functionality is there, but it doesn't include all software we are connecting."

What is our primary use case?

We have our data in several ACP-based systems, so we rely on Alteryx to extract the data from the system and build the data modeling in Alteryx. There isn't a cloud version. It is on-prem, but we can deploy it on the cloud, too. We do on-prem development and deploy it on the cloud.

    What is most valuable?

Alteryx's connectivity is essential. We like the ability to connect the solution to multiple sources. It's easier than other data modeling and extraction solutions. It's built on a self-service concept, so it's easy for anyone to open the tool and directly import or export data from it.

    What needs improvement?

It would be nice if they can provide Alteryx with more options for In-DB connectivity. That functionality is there, but it doesn't include all software we are connecting.

In-DB is a concept in Alteryx where we don't need to export data into the Alteryx server to process. The data remains in the source system, so Alteryx can directly manipulate it. That feature is available only for a few tools with limited options.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Alteryx for about two years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Alteryx is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Alteryx is scalable. My teammates and everyone in my company have an enterprise account, so we are able to access it.

How are customer service and support?

Alteryx support responds quickly, and my interactions with them have been good.
I rate Alteryx nine out of 10.

    How was the initial setup?

    Setting up Alteryx is straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Alteryx nine out of 10. I have worked on multiple media tools. This one seems to work for most use cases, and it is pretty fast when compared to others.

If you're implementing Alteryx, you should get the Alteryx application and take advantage of the self-study materials available in their portal. It'll be easier if you try out this application before you start working on the toor.

Versatile and user-friendly with excellent graphics
    Pros and Cons
    • "The most valuable feature is user-friendliness, as Alteryx can be used by those without any coding experience or experienced data scientists as it has the functionality to embed R and Python scripts."
    • "Alteryx's development environment could be improved as it requires installation locally and can't be developed in the cloud."

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use Alteryx for connecting to various data sources, data transformation and modeling, and preparing reports or extracts or data that we can visualize in other tools.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is user-friendliness, as Alteryx can be used by those without any coding experience or experienced data scientists as it has the functionality to embed R and Python scripts. Alteryx's versatility and ability to graphically present workflows of data are also excellent features.

    What needs improvement?

Alteryx's development environment could be improved as it requires installation locally and can't be developed in the cloud. You have to push the model into the cloud from your local machine, which is a pain compared to other tools like DataIQ, which you can develop fully from scratch in the cloud.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Alteryx for two-and-a-half years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We had some issues with deployability and scalability because we had to develop on our own machines and then push the workflow into the cloud, which caused issues with updates that caused functionality misalignments. Ideally, you'd be able to develop and run production applications in the same environment or platform, i.e. the cloud.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used DataIQ, which is a similar product but is fully in the cloud. I was pretty impressed by it and would probably rate it higher than Alteryx.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is quite straightforward, I would rate it four out of five.

    What about the implementation team?

We used a central support team from Vodafone Group.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Alteryx isn't extortionately expensive, but it's not cheap either. I'd rate its pricing as three out of five.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend trying a few different tools to see which one exactly fits your use case before deciding on Alteryx. I'd rate Alteryx as eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

It has helped us in our loading process, including scrubbing data and identifying data elements that need to be corrected
    Pros and Cons
    • "Alteryx has helped us spend more time identifying results instead of performing analysis manually. It has helped us in our loading process, including scrubbing data and identifying data elements that need to be corrected. It enables us to understand our data sets a lot better."
    • "There are a few hiccups with specific data sets and languages or formats that the data comes in. That may be a minor problem, but we can work through it. We had some issues looking at XML format in added data, but it wasn't significant."

How has it helped my organization?

Alteryx has helped us spend more time identifying results instead of performing analysis manually. It has helped us in our loading process, including scrubbing data and identifying data elements that need to be corrected. It enables us to understand our data sets a lot better.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Alteryx has been Designer. That has been beneficial because we load our data tables for Tableau. We use Alteryx to load the data into a database from various different data sources to come up with dashboards our business can work with.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been working with the products a bit over two years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is good. There are a few hiccups with specific data sets and languages or formats that the data comes in. That may be a minor problem, but we can work through it. We had some issues looking at XML format in added data, but it wasn't significant.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I don't think we've reached the limits of Alteryx yet. Our strategy is to push the envelope to see how far we can go, especially in terms of our advanced data analytics and using Alteryx to look for other types of anomalies or issues with our data.

We have around 20-plus active users doing transactional data analysis. We will likely increase the usage depending upon the use case and expansion of our global data sources.

How are customer service and support?

Most of the technical support we have used thus far has been internal.

    How was the initial setup?

The setup was pretty straightforward. We have a group that handles deployments within our company, and we get our license. They have Alteryx servers set up. I'm just in charge of the users with licenses. We had an implementation strategy that was completed in a few weeks.

    What about the implementation team?

The setup was performed by an in-house team.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I can't speak about the specifics of our licensing. Our operating costs are all shared and allocated. That helps keep the cost down.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated other options, but the decision was made by our corporate leaders, and I can't recall what the alternatives were.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Alteryx nine out of 10. I might be biased because of what I'm achieving with it. I don't think we've reached the extent of our usage. I want to increase the data analytics with it. My advice to prospective Alteryx users is to have a good plan. Run through some tests in scenarios where you think it might provide you with a good solution.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Process data quickly, is easy to use and set up and comes with good technical support
    Pros and Cons
    • "I like the solution's velocity, the speed with which it processes data, and its ease of use."
    • "A colleague of mind mentioned that the solution should have more options for the visualization of data."
    • "The price could be better; though we are satisfied with the solution, we feel the price to be a bit on the expensive side and we would like to improve on and escalate Alteryx, but find it too expensive at the moment to do so."

What is our primary use case?

I believe we are using the new version.

I use the solution for development and certain financial projections, such as making a business plan. I employ the solution for the amalgamation of big data.
    .
I also use the solution for certain analytics deployment, such as that found in the commercial arena, for ascertaining the projections of sales.

    What is most valuable?

I like the solution's velocity, the speed with which it processes data, and its ease of use. It has good usability.

    What needs improvement?

A colleague of mind mentioned that the solution should have more options for the visualization of data. The visualization filtering could stand improvement.

The documentation could be improved upon.

The price could be better. Though we are satisfied with the solution, we feel the price to be a bit on the expensive side. We make use of another ETL solution, the PowerCenter. We would like to improve on and escalate Alteryx, but find it too expensive at the moment to do so.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Alteryx within the past 12 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I believe the solution to be stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I believe the solution to be scalable, although I cannot say for certain, owing to the price. It We are not talking about a corporate solution at the moment. While we wish to improve upon and escalate the solution, I believe it is too expensive for us to do so at the present time.

While I cannot speak about the future with certainty, we do have plans to increase the usage. We are satisfied with what we have at present. My area currently consists of four licenses and we would like to improve on this, to have more users. For the moment, we don't have definite plans to buy another license, certainly not in 2022, although, perhaps, in 2023. I sure hope so.

How are customer service and support?

    Technical support is good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We make use of another ETL solution, the PowerCenter.

We also make use of Databricks, which we use as a data science platform, although I cannot say how this compares with Alteryx. We use Databricks as a corporate ETL solution from the Data Lake.

We use Microsoft Azure, as well.

    How was the initial setup?

    The initial setup was easy.

The deployment was fast, I believe lasting one day.

    What about the implementation team?

We handled the setup on our own.

I don't know how many people are needed for deployment and maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price could be better. Though we are satisfied with the solution, we feel the price to be a bit on the expensive side. We make use of another ETL solution, the PowerCenter. We would like to improve on and escalate Alteryx, but find it too expensive at the moment to do so.

The licensing costs are around 26,000 reals, perhaps $6,500 a year.

The licensing is all inclusive. There are no further costs.

What other advice do I have?

I don't make use of Alteryx myself, although my area, of which I am a manager, does.

I am a customer of Alteryx.

There are six people making use of the solution in our organization, two from compliance and one a data scientist.

My colleage rates Alteryx as a nine out of ten. She says she loves it.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Efficient, with great automation capabilities but technical support is not as good as it once was
    Pros and Cons
    • "Automation is the most valuable aspect for us. The ability to wrap business logic around the data is very helpful."
    • "The amount of manual labor that we're saving by writing those workflows is huge."
    • "What they're struggling with is it's not as mature as Tableau in the user management area. It was tougher to manage the server part of it right away, especially since the user base has grown."
    • "It's more expensive than Tableau, for example."

What is our primary use case?

We were analyzing data trying to find anomalies with the servers and things that were going wrong. Normally in what we do, it can be a very manual process looking for that kind of stuff. Therefore, using this product, I created a workflow that went out and looked across all devices for problems that are happening, and managed to cut down the number of issues that were being created daily.

How has it helped my organization?

The amount of labor that it takes us to find issues is pretty high. When you put the automation in place, that frees up your time to concentrate on the advanced analytics. We recognized right away in that first year that the amount of FTEs that we would have to acquire to do that work was a significant amount of money. It just stepped us into automation of many things that we do. That frees us up to be able to do a more mature analysis, and not that day-to-day stuff that you we have to track.

Not everybody's budget allows for having a team of 20. We just don't have that. It's saving us a lot of money in FTEs.

    What is most valuable?

Right away we knew this has a lot of value, even from the perspective of data manipulation and automation.

There are all sorts of use cases that we could come up with. It does take a little bit of learning and figuring out how to work the tool, however, we've been really successful with it. I even went and presented at one of their conferences our use case.

Automation is the most valuable aspect for us. The ability to wrap business logic around the data is very helpful.

It not only helps us with efficiency. You can also flip the steps apart to make that data flow in various ways.

Most tasks run in less than two minutes and provide us with what we need very quickly. I can wrap rules around the data to look for certain things or to notify people.

The amount of manual labor that we're saving by writing those workflows is huge.

    What needs improvement?

The solution does have a bit of a learning curve.

I initially managed the product completely. Then, when the user base grew, another group just took it over. What they're struggling with is it's not as mature as Tableau in the user management area. It was tougher to manage the server part of it right away, especially since the user base has grown. When you get hundreds of users in there, trying to manage access to the product is a little tougher than Tableau.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for maybe around five years or so.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is quite stable. It's not as mature as Tableau in that stability area, however, it's pretty reliable. We don't have a lot of problems with it. Initially, we created a lot of cases as we didn't understand how to best manage the product. Now, very rarely do I open a case with support and have issues.

How are customer service and technical support?

They recently moved to a different support model. Initially, when we came to the product, the support was pretty good. Now, when we open cases, it seems not so good. They're asking customers to pay more money to get a higher level of support. Of course, due to the fact that we don't open that many cases, it's not important to us to get to that higher level. That said, the response time given and the attention to us is not as good as it was initially.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

When trying to pull large datasets into Tableau right away we realized that we had to do something different. Prior to Alteryx being available, I would use scripting to stage the data. I happened to notice an ad on LinkedIn for Alteryx, and I thought, "Wow, this is exactly what I need." I talked management into buying it. I was the first one in the company to start using the product.

    What about the implementation team?

We used outside vendors to come in and help in certain parts of the implementation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's more expensive than Tableau, for example.

There has been some scrutiny on the overall costs. We're trying to go to more open-source, with more products that don't cost so much. I have to continually work with folks on proving that the value of what we pay in licenses.

The solution has recently changed its support process and is now pressuring users to pay for a higher level of support services. That could potentially be an extra charge for some companies.

What other advice do I have?

We are just customers and end-users.

I would advise other companies considering the solution that the training is important. They've been great working with us on free training for this, that, and the other. The company really does provide a lot of those resources. The community is very good. The knowledge base that's out there in the community is great. A company should just tap into that and any free training they can. It takes a little bit of time to get proficient at it, however, the payoff is there.

Overall, I would rate it at a seven out of ten.

Scales well with connection feature and good stability
    Pros and Cons
    • "Technical support is very helpful."
    • "The connection feature is quite useful to our organization; we connect with Microsoft SQL databases, Oracle databases, SharePoint lists, and Outlook email servers, and the stability and scalability have been very good with no issues."
    • "The screen when you are looking into your workflows and your ETL processes needs to be improved. You cannot manage it very well."
    • "The desktop license is expensive."

What is our primary use case?

The solution allows us to create some reports that my organization uses, that my team uses. We also move some data from one particular legacy ERP into a shared SQL server to mix information from defense applications into one repository for analytic purposes.

    What is most valuable?

The connection feature is quite useful to our organization. We connect with other databases. We connect with Microsoft SQL databases or with Oracle databases, and we connect with SharePoint lists, and we can connect with Outlook email servers as well.

The stability is very good. It hasn't given us any issues.

    The scalability has been great.

    Technical support is very helpful.

    What needs improvement?

Our IT team has a lot of restrictions. Therefore, we cannot extend all the functions and all the features that Alteryx has, unfortunately. That's due to the fact that the internal restrictions we have are from a security standpoint.

    The desktop license is expensive.

The screen when you are looking into your workflows and your ETL processes needs to be improved. You cannot manage it very well. For example, the column size, and items like that should be adjustable.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for a couple of years. It's been a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution has been stable so far. It doesn't crash and freeze. There are no bugs or glitches. It's good. The stability of the tool is perfect for us.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We've found the scalability to be quite good. We are connected to big databases, small databases, medium databases, any kind of database. For us, it's great.

In Latin America, there are about 30 to 40 people on the solution. In North America, probably a couple of hundred people are on the solution, and in Europe probably over 100. In Asia, there are probably around 50 more, and the India teams probably have a little more.

How are customer service and technical support?

I've not personally used technical support, however, we have a person on our team who is more of an expert on all of the features. Sometimes, if he has questions, he will contact them. We have a very quick response, from what I understand. So far, it's been a good experience and we are satisfied with their level of support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have a few hundred office licenses so far.

I haven't compared the solution to other licenses and therefore cannot really specify if it's the most expensive option or not, or if the current pricing is unreasonable. This is the tool our company's IT team selected for us and we can use it if we need it. It's not something I chose. It's something my company provides as a tool from an ETL standpoint.

What other advice do I have?

We don't use all the functionalities due to the restrictions we have inside our network. So far, what we use is enough. We can't extend to use all the functions and all the capabilities the tools have. However, that is because of the unique internal restrictions we have.

We use the solution just as a reporting tool and consolidate information from different systems to create analytics, however, I know that Alteryx has far more extended capabilities than we have explored. We use it as a personal user tool. We don't use it as a company strategy to move databases from one side to another side and make consolidations. We use it on a very small scale.

I'd recommend the solution to others.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. We've been largely satisfied with the solution.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

Fast data processing, highly scalable, and good community support
    Pros and Cons
    • "Data processing is most valuable. It is one of the fastest data blockers out there in the market, which is a fascinating thing about Alteryx."
    • "They can provide some pre-built tools for predictive analytics instead of us having to build all the tools. It should also be improved from the visualization aspect. It should have better visualization capabilities. There are tools out there that have better visualization capabilities, which Alteryx is lacking currently."

    What is most valuable?

Data processing is most valuable. It is one of the fastest data blockers out there in the market, which is a fascinating thing about Alteryx.

    What needs improvement?

They can provide some pre-built tools for predictive analytics instead of us having to build all the tools.

It should also be improved from the visualization aspect. It should have better visualization capabilities. There are tools out there that have better visualization capabilities, which Alteryx is lacking currently.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for more than six years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have done a lot of work on Alteryx and deployed it on client servers, and Alteryx is a highly scalable solution in my opinion.

It is mostly used by the analytics team, which includes analyst associates and project leaders. The consulting team also uses it pretty often. We would like to increase its usage because it is a pretty good software to work with.

How are customer service and technical support?

I believe their technical support is pretty great. I mostly use the Alteryx community, which is really helpful. It is maintained by Alteryx people.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used SQL previously, but it was not very good for quick and dirty analysis. So, I switched to Alteryx.

    How was the initial setup?

It is straightforward. It is on the cloud, but the major functions that we have are on the desktop itself. The cloud solution is good for client deployments.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My organization pays for it, and I do not look into the financial aspect of the licensing, but I know it is pretty expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Alteryx a nine out of ten.
