Azure Site Recovery's automated file synchronization was a game-changer in managing legacy systems. Setting up the sync was easy, and when disaster recovery was triggered, ASR automatically ensured seamless replication of files from the primary to the secondary server. With just a click, this feature simplified and expedited the entire process, providing a reliable solution for maintaining data consistency between servers during recovery events.

Pros and Cons
- "Azure Site Recovery's automated file synchronization was a game-changer in managing legacy systems."
- "The primary area for improvement in Azure Site Recovery is its pricing."
What is most valuable?
What needs improvement?
The primary area for improvement in Azure Site Recovery is its pricing. While the service is efficient and successful in handling recovery scenarios, especially for large companies dealing with substantial monthly data, the costs can be a significant consideration. The ease and speed of ASR in recovery are commendable, but addressing the pricing aspect would enhance overall satisfaction.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Azure Site Recovery for almost two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of Azure Site Recovery is exceptional. We have conducted 12 tests from November last year until recently, and the stability has been consistently high. I would rate it a perfect ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In terms of scalability, I can't think of any additional functionalities needed for ASR at the moment. ASR has proven very effective for us, especially in the aspect of failing back to a secondary server. The scalability is impressive, as it doesn't matter where you are; you just need to set it up. We use both on-premises and Azure services, and so far, there hasn't been any limitation observed in recovering data to a secondary site, regardless of the size of VMs.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate Microsoft's technical support a solid nine. AIA's substantial investment in Microsoft products allows us to easily connect with their support. Setting up meetings and triggering tickets for any concerns is a smooth process. They promptly provide engineers who efficiently address our issues. While some complex issues may take time to resolve due to thorough checking, overall, we have been very satisfied with Microsoft support.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
Deploying ASR can take a few hours with the right expertise and prepared build sheets. However, factors such as connectivity issues and the size of VMs, especially when dealing with substantial data like 1.7 terabytes, can extend the synchronization time. In our experience, it took three days to complete synchronization for a large VM. During deployment and DR drills, around 15 people, including both internal and external team members, were involved. In the team handling infrastructure and services like ASR, there are about five individuals, two from one partner and three from another.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I would rate it as a seven out of ten in terms of costliness.
What other advice do I have?
I would highly recommend Azure Site Recovery for any IT professional tasked with developing and managing critical business systems. It is one of the best services out there to ensure comprehensive coverage during times of disaster. Overall, I would rate ASR as a ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

Pros and Cons
- "What I love about Azure Site Recovery is its simplicity for basic configurations."
- "One area for improvement with Azure is helping customers predict usage more accurately."
What is our primary use case?
We use Azure Site Recovery to duplicate our on-premises virtual machines to Azure. This ensures a backup in case of a disaster. If something goes wrong, we can quickly switch to the replicated VMs in Azure, ensuring business continuity and minimizing downtime.
What is most valuable?
What I love about Azure Site Recovery is its simplicity for basic configurations. We are currently testing it as a safety net for our VMs, and while the pricing concerns us a bit, I see the bigger picture. Investing in such services might save us more in the long run compared to maintaining on-premises infrastructure, considering hardware costs.
What needs improvement?
One area for improvement with Azure is helping customers predict usage more accurately. It would be great to have tools that provide clearer insights into how our costs might evolve over time. Like a budget forecast that considers potential fluctuations based on usage, helping avoid surprises.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Azure Site Recovery for six months.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would rate the scalability of the solution as a seven out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
We have had a few issues, and the support team's response time is pretty good. However, the process to raise tickets, especially if you're not a partner, can be a bit cumbersome. Communicating through a partner adds complexity, making it less reliable and not very straightforward. I would rate the support as a seven out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of Azure Site Recovery can be a bit challenging, especially if there are missing parts or specific health issues. Experience is crucial, and having a skilled team is a must for a smooth setup.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing for Azure Site Recovery isn't fixed, and it depends on factors like storage, network traffic, and resource usage. While it is not crystal clear, I have noticed it fluctuates with these variables. This flexibility makes it a bit challenging to estimate costs accurately, but I get that this is often the case with cloud services in general.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to new users would be to gain a solid understanding of how the cloud works, know your infrastructure well, and be aware of your system's utilization in terms of computing, memory, and storage. Asking questions and seeking advice are crucial. Don't be surprised by unexpected costs; try to plan and estimate as accurately as possible to ensure cost-effectiveness. Overall, I would rate Azure Site Recovery as an eight out of ten.

It is a scalable product. The system can start with only 100 machines but can be scaled up to more machines as needed. However, syncing 25 servers can take some time.
How are customer service and support?
The support team took a lot of time to respond and was not very professional. They don’t come to the point easily.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was easy for me because I've been working with it for several years now. The UI is pretty good. If the UI is pretty good, we can use it and get started easily. I got the solution set up pretty quickly.
What about the implementation team?
The deployment time depends on whether you have all the permissions available from all the stakeholders. It can take up to two hours maximum. If you have all the information from the stakeholders, then it's much quicker.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate the product a six out of ten.
