Adaptive scales well, simple to create new budget versions and models
For the organization I used to work at, it streamlined the process of creating budgets. It's very simple to create a new version and do some more modeling based on your need for planning things like headcount, other expenses, and revenue, everything is configurable within Workday. So that made it easy. Reporting was pretty easy to set up as well. It streamlined the amount of time it took to do the budget as well as kind of making it simple to implement a rolling forecast process. So, it really was more just a productivity increase and time shortening for the budgeting and forecasting process.

Interactive dashboards have transformed restaurant data into faster daily business decisions
Microsoft Power BI has many features and there is not a lot to improve. However, the licensing can be confusing. When deciding between Pro and Premium, I find it difficult to distinguish what features are offered by Pro and what features are offered by Premium, including the particular differences to choose between both licensing models. Additionally, some features such as DAX, which I mentioned previously, involve DAX calculations and complex data modeling, which are somewhat advanced and not easily understandable. Prior knowledge is required or you need to go through the documentation. If the documentation is made comprehensive so that anyone with no knowledge on DAX can easily use it by going through the documentation, it would be really helpful. Additionally, if the integration with non-Microsoft tools is improved and performance is optimized, then Microsoft Power BI can become a top-ranked visualization tool. The user experience with Microsoft Power BI is quite good. The intuitive user interface makes it easy for both technical and non-technical users to create reports. However, only the advanced features are somewhat complex, and if the documentation is improved, it can be easily accessible.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We utilize planning on a daily basis, therefore we find it to be the most valuable product for our organization."
"The integration with our payroll system to complete staff modeling during our budget and forecast processes."
"We have gone from an organization that looked backwards at financials and had a one-time annual budget to an organization that looks forward, has rolling forecasts, long-term planning, metrics, and push button reporting."
"This solution transformed the way both of my companies did reporting."
"Reports are allowed to be edited for aesthetic purposes, which is lacking in a lot of other dashboard tools."
"It's very simple to create a new version and do some more modeling based on your need for planning things like headcount, other expenses, and revenue, everything is configurable within Workday."
"More accurate, reliable, and timely forecasting."
"Forecasting changes that instantly flow through all financial statements."
"Its dashboard is also very nice and not complicated."
"This solution has improved our ability in making decisions and explaining data."
"I like the fact that Power BI lets me use Excel data; at least 90% of my state data is in Excel spreadsheets, so having the ability to just attach a spreadsheet as a data source is very, very important."
"The ability to combine the data and to connect with pretty established platforms has been the solution's most valuable aspect to us."
"It's a great tool for visualization data, and it's free for engineers."
"The most valuable feature is shareability, where we can publish work to the cloud and share it with team members."
"Easy to use and the visualization is valuable."
"However, it is very well integrated with other Microsoft products, including PowerApps and Excel, as well as Access, so it fits well into our workflow."

Cons

"Discovery (the data visualization module): Needs to catch up with BI leaders, such as MS and Tableau. E.g., sorting by amounts in column charts and page slicers to control all visuals."
"The upload feature exists, but isn't terribly useful."
"Being able to drill down when using OfficeConnect needs work."
"It's a Workday product; they could do a little bit better to integrate a pure-play integration with Workday, which really doesn't do that."
"We tried Discovery and OfficeConnect at one point and found them too cumbersome, at the time."
"The product's configuration process could be faster."
"The planning functionalities are the weakest part of Adaptive Insights."
"Better user interface (UI)."
"It is easy enough. I don't see any real substantial improvements that are needed. It is great as it is, but its interface could be a bit modern."
"When you go to the cloud, its licensing is not intuitive. It is a little bit complex."
"When I want to use my old code in Power BI, it doesn't handle it, and that was also annoying."
"We face multiple issues, and the connection drops off multiple times while integrating Microsoft Power BI with OAC and pulling in the data."
"In my opinion, the software is a little bit limited in terms of the flexibility it offers, with regard to the design of the visualization."
"If you look at the new tool, even though they promised that you could do data modeling, that you could do everything from the Power BI side, if your data is really large in volume, sometimes it doesn't work on the Power BI."
"The formatting template could be improved."
"A lot of people work on Excel, so being able to export an Excel file as part of a subscription would be an improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is in line with other cloud-based EPM tools. It is a subscription-based model based upon the number of users and site type if it's an admin or end-user type thing."
"Prior to purchasing licenses, make sure you understand which users will only need planning and which users will need both planning and OfficeConnect."
"Ensure that you have the proper pricing plan in place."
"Adaptive Insights' pricing is relative to its peer competitors. It's certainly competitive compared to a spreadsheet template that you build in Excel. It can be expensive if you need to have 100-500 budget holders giving input and building financial plans. However, in that case, it becomes an extremely good bargain. Compared to its competitors, it offers an excellent value."
"It's affordable."
"Adaptive Insights' pricing is reasonable."
"Everything is negotiable, but this solution is low cost compared to others."
"Licensing seems to be worth the cost considering the efficiency Adaptive brings."
"We have a professional license for Microsoft BI and the price is fair."
"I used the tool's free version."
"I would rate the pricing an eight out of ten, with one being cheap and ten being expensive."
"Costs less than most competing solutions."
"Regarding cost, the initial investment wasn't too high, but ongoing licensing could add up."
"Its licensing cost is very high. It is $20 per user, which is very high, but it is a good product, so you pay for it."
"Licensing is on a monthly basis, but I am not sure."
"The price of Microsoft BI is reasonable. Other solutions such as SAP Cloud are more expensive."
