Low-code platform has accelerated enterprise app delivery and has reduced team size
Mendix has evolved as much as possible, and they are currently planning to automate tasks using AI agentics and other features. Every day presents a learning opportunity for developers using Mendix and the teams involved in improving the platform. One needed improvement I have noticed while working with Mendix is in native mobile development, which still lacks features available in other development environments like Android Studio or Flutter. Certain components that should be available in 2026 are still not present in Mendix, making it difficult to explain limitations to customers. This aspect needs further attention, especially for native mobile development.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I have found Adobe Experience Manager Mobile to be reliable."
"Adobe Experience Manager Mobile has helped us to have a better flow for data entry and build stages on our website."
"I think it's the best content management system, fulfilling all the requirements of a CMS tool."
"Mendix has made a great deal of effort to provide its developers a healthy, modern environment for developing. First of all, it adopts Agile methodology by creating a SCRUM-based app where you can handle your user stories. Next comes version control, which really allows multiple team members to collaborate quite easily. And last but not least, Mendix modeler, which is your IDE for developing Mendix apps."
"The best feature is that you can create applications real fast."
"They see faster time to market for new software, improved maintainability, and higher user satisfaction as the main improvements."
"It gave the organizations I worked for the ability to create far more complex applications with a smaller team and in a shorter time frame."
"You can scale the solution."
"Mostly, the students are very excited about the product due to the fact that they can make applications without coding."
"Mendix stands out for its speed and efficiency, especially for standardized business applications, and its integration with Java and JavaScript allows extending functionality beyond typical low-code limitations."
"Right now, if any company or client asks me for a low-code solution in Industry 4.0 space, I would just say, "You don't have to spend money on doing an assessment, Mendix is your go-to.""

Cons

"Adobe Experience Manager Mobile could be improved by making it much easier to share the design system between different projects."
"The license cost is too high, and customers hesitate to implement this solution."
"As mentioned, there needs to be an increase in the number of the UI components so that other platforms will not be used in place of the UI interface of Mendix, such as Angular."
"The code refactoring tools could be better, especially for applications running for years. It's not bad, but it could be smoother. Also, writing new widgets can be trickier than it should be for some people, but not if you're familiar with Mendix."
"While the documentation is good, the development box could be better."
"For small companies the pricing can be a bit steep."
"The area of this product that needs improving is the templates in which the user uses to create documents."
"Mendix is great for internal applications but not so great for a public-facing interface. It lacks a proper directory structure for public use. The URL will not change from page to page unless a deep link is created for each page. That makes it difficult to bookmark pages in the browser to view later on."
"The platform still has many areas for improvement."
"Needs multiple database connections so an app can directly read/write data to/from multiple databases. This would enable easy splitting of big applications that have complex entity relationships."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's a product with a high licensing cost."
"Pricing used to be complex, but Mendix has improved that quite a bit."
"Mendix seems a bit expensive. But in terms of wanting to have less developers and higher velocity, the total cost of ownership is fine. It's not cheap, though."
"The solution is a bit expensive compared to others"
"Its cost is higher than competitors. The cost mostly includes licensing. It is charged per user. The cost model could be better. When you have a big company, what does per user mean? If I have a company where I have 40,000 people who will go to access it but only 200 do, how do you license it and who do you pay for? If they hit it once, do you pay for it? The licensing is complex for a big company. It is easy for us to buy all we can eat, get an enterprise license agreement, and call it good."
"Licensing costs are similar to those for all other IT technology, but they vary by region."
"From a commercial point of view, we would like them to change that they currently sell it as a platform, but as a customer you have to decide upfront the usage of the platform. We would like to have Mendix sell it as a pay as you go model: You pay for what you use, and you don't pay for what you don't use."
"I would not recommend the solution to small and medium-sized businesses because it’s expensive. It’s great for big organizations. I rate the pricing as a three out of ten."
"There is a license required to use Mendix. The solution's price is high, but it is best suited for enterprise companies that have the budget. It is not for small or medium-sized businesses."
