Automation has transformed firewall changes and has reduced audit effort and breach risk
The best features AlgoSec offers include automation of firewall rule changes, centralized security policy management, and improved compliance and audit readiness. AlgoSec has positively impacted my organization by allowing us to see faster change management, reduced audit costs, and reduced breach risk. I can share specific metrics indicating that through OpEx savings, we have been able to reduce firewall rule analysis and rule change handling time by 60 to 90 percent. This has led to fewer manual tasks and a smaller workload on our network and security teams. We have seen a return on investment with reduced audit costs, less time spent preparing evidence manually, and reduced breach risk. I would like to add that on centralized security policy management, it reduces complexity in multi-vendor environments.

Good support, nice interface, and simple to upgrade
PDF format is not available for Alert Composer. There are file attachment or body content output options. The other issue is that the range object can be displayed in the rule viewer section. If we know the range object, we provide imaging, but if we do not know the range object, there is no imaging. It also allows adding range object rules when performing server cloning. In general, however, we have made successful progress since the POC process.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It tremendously improved the security of our organization with much better and efficient firewall rules."
"The complete and end-to-end visibility and analysis it provides of the policy rule base is invaluable and saves countless time and effort."
"This solution provides visibility and comprehension of the network in our organization and assists us in network security reviews and audits."
"Multi-vendor feature in a multi-vendor environment is a must. Ensures changes adhere to internal and regulatory standards."
"The most valuable feature of AlgoSec is its firewall analyzer."
"The solution provides us with full visibility into the risk involved in firewall change requests. This is very important for us because we are regulated according to the FDA. It shows us which changes have been made and why. So, it has worked very well for our compliance needs."
"AlgoSec Firewall Analyser (AFA): Providing reports and security improvements actually added value to the services provided to our customers."
"It gives us 100% visibility into our network security policies. It has given us a couple of surprises. Over the years, the network that we are administrating has been subject to people who have an idea of how a network should be set up. That differs from technician to technician or engineer to engineer. So, we are finding little pockets of hidden little self-engineered configurations and the way things were done that nobody knew about. Once the engineer left, the knowledge of that setup disappeared. You don't know about those until something either goes wrong, or you get something like AlgoSec to discover it for you, and it says, "Hey, there is this going on over here.""
"The platform is easy to deploy and maintain."
"Version upgrades can be done quickly."

Cons

"They need to improve auditing of IP tables, as only monitoring them does not reduce their vulnerabilities."
"The customization and fine-tuning of the policies could use improvement."
"AlgoSec is a strong tool, but there are a few areas for improvement."
"Right now, pushing policies is restricted to some OEMs; we can delete unwanted policies for many OEMs, but while pushing new policies, I've noticed challenges with Fortinet and Sophos or SonicWall."
"I think the product is great from an overall observation, sometimes speed is an issue but I think it could be improved a little bit from a parsing perspective."
"I would like to see Bi-Directional API support in order to integrate with SOAR platforms that provide SOC automation and IRR."
"The customization of dashboards should be simplified and more user-friendly."
"AlgoSec could be improved with a more modern and intuitive user interface, especially for new users."
"The product's web page view is very basic. They could add new features to it."
"PDF format is not available for Alert Composer."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost is kind of high but I really did not check any other vendors."
"Pricing is great if you have a small number of large firewalls, otherwise, it does not bring ROI."
"The initial cost was high for us."
"I'm not involved in the financial aspect, but I understand the platform to be expensive, though I need to find out how it compares to competitors like Tufin, for example."
"The price is within the standard of security products."
"AlgoSec is not a cheap product. If I compare Firemon and AlgoSec, because I am also Firemon certified, Firemon is still cheaper in price than AlgoSec."
"For cloud environments, it can be expensive. The model adopted to use as licensing for the cloud environment should be reviewed since it sometimes can increase the value of the service/product in an unexpected way. For example, they should instead use the amount of instances, which should just take into consideration the number of Security Groups and ACLs."
"The pricing is flexible with a low cost setup."
"Opinnate is inexpensive than other products."
