Automation has transformed firewall changes and has reduced audit effort and breach risk
The best features AlgoSec offers include automation of firewall rule changes, centralized security policy management, and improved compliance and audit readiness. AlgoSec has positively impacted my organization by allowing us to see faster change management, reduced audit costs, and reduced breach risk. I can share specific metrics indicating that through OpEx savings, we have been able to reduce firewall rule analysis and rule change handling time by 60 to 90 percent. This has led to fewer manual tasks and a smaller workload on our network and security teams. We have seen a return on investment with reduced audit costs, less time spent preparing evidence manually, and reduced breach risk. I would like to add that on centralized security policy management, it reduces complexity in multi-vendor environments.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are moving towards an automated environment so the ability to work with Ansible, ServiceNow, and Palo Alto gives us the ability to automate our firewall policy creation. And it does so in a manner where we do not have to worry about a policy being created that may put our organization at risk."
"AlgoSec AFA and AFF automate lots of things for my organization."
"AlgoSec has positively impacted my organization by saving time, reducing errors, and making things easier for my team."
"It has made implementing regulatory requirements like PCI DSS and ISO easier."
"Both the modules of AlgoSec solution which has been on-boarded in our environment are amazing to use as it provides a central end to end visibility of the firewall rules spanning across the multiple layers of the firewall."
"It has helped us to clean up and optimize the firewall rule sets by identifying duplicate rules, covered rules, and even rules that have not received hits within a defined period."
"AlgoSec has significantly improved firewall policy management, visibility, and troubleshooting efficiency in our environment."
"The most valuable features are the network map, risk analysis, and tickets for firewall changes."
"This is the only solution in the world that gives you a digital resilience score."
"The most valuable features are network mapping and configuration."
"If you want to understand your network environment as it relates to configuration issues, host/node vulnerabilities and firewall configurations, then I highly recommend that RedSeal be considered."
"RedSeal helps you prioritize and allocate your scarce human and capital resources where they have the biggest impact to protect your most-valuable digital assets."
"Overall, I am very happy with the way the product is working."
"RedSeal has different modules, such as the Analyzer module, which can be leveraged."
"The most valuable feature I enjoy that is provided by this security analytics platform is the ability to measure resilience."
"RedSeal integrates the network and gives us a visual or graphical overview of our network. If an organization is geographically dispersed, for instance, with one office in Canada and one office in the Philippines, the whole network, including all devices, is integrated into RedSeal, and you can see from where the traffic is going in and out."

Cons

"The rating is not higher mainly due to performance delays and limited reporting customization in a large-scale deployment."
"Introducing greater flexibility in editing alerts would be a highly appreciated improvement."
"It would be nice to allow customers to build their own policy, based on the customer’s own customization and business needs."
"Some of the auditing functionality needs improvement. Our major focus is the firewall validation process and tracking and verifying that changes are implemented correctly. We are actually doing parts of the auditing process manually. And getting any one of the vendors to bring out a good auditing process has been very difficult."
"AlgoSec can probably do better at introducing features for the cloud firewall scenarios."
"Our experience with the support is fair."
"One specific area that could benefit from improvement is the rule analysis feature, particularly in terms of defining objects within a new rule. Currently, the process seems to be more focused on network-level analysis rather than on objects, which sometimes requires us to perform multiple iterations to achieve optimal results."
"The reporting feature needs work."
"There is room for improvement regarding customization and automation of reports."
"There is room for improvement in integrating the OT security part and the private 5G security part in RedSeal."
"Integration with other security tools. Have the ability to create custom reports: Currently, within RedSeal you only have the option to run the canned reports."
"Initially their level one support was very frustrating to work with."
"The network mapping/visualization could be improved significantly."
"Its interface is not user-friendly and needs to be improved."
"The dashboard should be improved to make correlating data easier to do."
"Sometimes, it required us to refresh the configuration. When we integrated any of the configurations into the device, sometimes, it could not detect the exact picture of that device. So, we had to reset the device to see that if it was giving true-positive results or false-positive results. In some cases, we were not able to get true-positive results. There was some kind of bug in that version. Its interface is not user-friendly and needs to be improved. It takes time to understand the interface and various options. Skybox has quite a user-friendly interface. They could provide a feature for compliance audit policy if it is already not there. A compliance audit policy ensures that all configurations are based on the best practices standards, such as CIS benchmarks standard or other similar standards. It provides visibility about whether your device configuration is based on best practices or not. Usually, such a feature is provided by other solutions such as Meteor or Tenable Nessus."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For cloud environments, it can be expensive. The model adopted to use as licensing for the cloud environment should be reviewed since it sometimes can increase the value of the service/product in an unexpected way. For example, they should instead use the amount of instances, which should just take into consideration the number of Security Groups and ACLs."
"It is fair."
"Licensing is offered as a subscription and as a perpetual model."
"The licensing is very easy to set up, with flexible licensing methods such as subscription and perpetual."
"AlgoSec may be little pricier with its licenses, but it is probably better than any of other competitors."
"I compared the prices of AlgoSec with Tufin and FireMon. I don't recall the exact cost, but it was within budget and not very expensive. In addition to standard licensing fees, we didn't have any significant additional costs. We did hire new people for the change management process, but that's not a technology issue."
"Setup cost and pricing were reasonable and the licensing was straightforward."
"The cost of the tool can be recovered with AlgoSec automations."
"The pricing is based on the number of endpoints and devices, and we have seen it range from mid-five figures to low six figures."
