Automation has transformed firewall changes and has reduced audit effort and breach risk
The best features AlgoSec offers include automation of firewall rule changes, centralized security policy management, and improved compliance and audit readiness. AlgoSec has positively impacted my organization by allowing us to see faster change management, reduced audit costs, and reduced breach risk. I can share specific metrics indicating that through OpEx savings, we have been able to reduce firewall rule analysis and rule change handling time by 60 to 90 percent. This has led to fewer manual tasks and a smaller workload on our network and security teams. We have seen a return on investment with reduced audit costs, less time spent preparing evidence manually, and reduced breach risk. I would like to add that on centralized security policy management, it reduces complexity in multi-vendor environments.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We have all of the information about the firewall devices that we have at risk, either because there is a firewall policy with some open protocol that can give us security problems later, or because long-unused rules present a security hole."
"We are moving towards an automated environment so the ability to work with Ansible, ServiceNow, and Palo Alto gives us the ability to automate our firewall policy creation. And it does so in a manner where we do not have to worry about a policy being created that may put our organization at risk."
"AlgoSec AFA and AFF automate lots of things for my organization."
"This has helped to restrict rules, delete rules that are too permissive, and create a configuration that complies with our security policy."
"Multi-vendor feature in a multi-vendor environment is a must. Ensures changes adhere to internal and regulatory standards."
"Users utilize this tool to make their change requests."
"AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer can detect misconfigurations and unused or permissive rules, as well as rules without logging. Through a single dashboard, I can see all the problematic rules from all the firewalls. It's very simple, with AlgoSec, to get an analysis of all the rules, and that helps with visibility."
"One of the quick wins is to view our device status easily, with out-of-the-box dashboards and charts."
"RedSeal has different modules, such as the Analyzer module, which can be leveraged."
"RedSeal integrates the network and gives us a visual or graphical overview of our network. If an organization is geographically dispersed, for instance, with one office in Canada and one office in the Philippines, the whole network, including all devices, is integrated into RedSeal, and you can see from where the traffic is going in and out."
"This is the only solution in the world that gives you a digital resilience score."
"The most valuable features are network mapping and configuration."

Cons

"The license rekeying needed for when you need to change a firewall usually takes a bit of time."
"This product could be improved in several ways including more device support, an automated rollback process and options in active push, software-defined WAN integration and support, and application-aware policy identification and optimization."
"have also heard a few qualms about the technical support and that it could be improved. However, this doesn't detract from the value the tool brings to our business."
"We are running multiple hybrid cloud solutions, working with cloud providers, and looking for API integrations with cloud and related interoperability. Sometimes, when we are trying to delete or disable any rule, it takes more time than expected."
"It would be very helpful to have a direct link to the relevant firewall policy embedded within reports when there are warnings or risks indicated."
"At the integration point, a manual page could be added to the dashboard where directions about the products are explained in detail."
"Algosec should also be exploring the integration with the open source firewalls as well."
"While AlgoSec provides comprehensive visibility and management of security policies across hybrid environments, there is an opportunity to further expand its intelligence capabilities."
"The dashboard should be improved to make correlating data easier to do."
"There is room for improvement in integrating the OT security part and the private 5G security part in RedSeal."
"One of the areas of concern is the GUI. It is important to our customers that the GUI looks beautiful. It's a Java Client, so you have a Java dependency."
"Sometimes, it required us to refresh the configuration. When we integrated any of the configurations into the device, sometimes, it could not detect the exact picture of that device. So, we had to reset the device to see that if it was giving true-positive results or false-positive results. In some cases, we were not able to get true-positive results. There was some kind of bug in that version. Its interface is not user-friendly and needs to be improved. It takes time to understand the interface and various options. Skybox has quite a user-friendly interface. They could provide a feature for compliance audit policy if it is already not there. A compliance audit policy ensures that all configurations are based on the best practices standards, such as CIS benchmarks standard or other similar standards. It provides visibility about whether your device configuration is based on best practices or not. Usually, such a feature is provided by other solutions such as Meteor or Tenable Nessus."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is fair."
"I can’t say that this is a cheap system. It's affordable for large enterprises and, in some cases, for mid-sized companies. For the majority of other companies, this solution is out of their price range."
"I find the price too expensive. It looks a bit like SAP, so it does have standard functionality out of the box, but you will spend a lot of money if you want to customize it. However, the price is not as extreme as SAP or Oracle, but the actual implementation does turn out to be expensive."
"Use the entire suite for its best benefits."
"We have had quite a number of our prospective clients have come to us, and say, "Hey guys, we want AlgoSec," but one of their turn-offs has been the pricing. I would like it if AlgoSec would review their pricing and come down on it. The solution is quite amazing and versatile, so we would really appreciate it if the pricing could be reviewed for Nigeria because we definitely would get more sales if that happened."
"AlgoSec may be little pricier with its licenses, but it is probably better than any of other competitors."
"AlgoSec is not a cheap product. If I compare Firemon and AlgoSec, because I am also Firemon certified, Firemon is still cheaper in price than AlgoSec."
"We are working with our finance department right now to be able to purchase it. The AlgoSec team is doing everything that they can in their power to get the costs down to where our budget is. They have worked a lot on it. They have cut the cost in half for us so far by questioning, "This is in the quote. Is this something that is actually needed?" They have pulled some stuff out and cut our costs down by 50% for the product itself."
"The pricing is based on the number of endpoints and devices, and we have seen it range from mid-five figures to low six figures."
