Optimized restaurant analytics has driven faster insights and streamlined daily reporting
Amazon Redshift offers massive parallel processing capability, allowing it to handle millions of records, along with integration with other AWS features such as S3 and QuickSight. The column-level storage supports high performance and easy data retrieval compared to other tools. The integration with S3 has helped my team immensely since S3 is our starting source, and the direct integration with Amazon Redshift simplifies the transformation and loading process. Columnar storage has benefited our performance significantly, allowing us to extract specific rows from tables with years of data much faster than other tools with row-level storage. Amazon Redshift has positively impacted our organization by significantly improving query performance and speed. Features such as easy integration with S3 allow us to process millions of records efficiently, ultimately saving us nearly one hour per day for our project.

Can quickly query it to generate quick results
We have used Snowflake before. We support both. Firebolt has better performance, executing queries much quicker than Snowflake. However, Snowflake has more functionality. Depending on the client's needs, we can recommend the best option. Firebolt is a relatively new technology. Snowflake has many functionalities. Firebolt does not support unloading data to S3. There is no built-in way to do this in Firebolt. Alternatively, the data can be retrieved using API calls and loaded to S3 manually. Data can be unloaded to S3 directly using Snowflake. Firebolt significantly improves our performance over Snowflake because it takes less time to execute queries. This is especially important for our company because we use some KPIs that require fast loading times.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It helped my customers migrate off on-premise platforms such as Teradata to Redshift, at a fraction of the cost."
"The return on investment of moving from an on-premise to a completely cloud-hosted data platform is significantly high and worth the effort."
"The tool's most valuable feature is its parallel processing capability. It can handle massive amounts of data, even when pushing hundreds of terabytes, and its scaling capabilities are good."
"Redshift allows you to transform different data formats and consolidate them into one Redshift cluster. This means you can transform various siloed data sources like Excel files and CSV files into Redshift."
"Redshift has been a great DB for us to date."
"The feature that we find most useful is the ability to do analytics on the fly."
"Data Science and Machine Learning are valuable features."
"Redshift is very cost effective for a cloud based solution if you need to scale it a lot."
"Firebolt is fast for analytical purposes. For example, we have analytical data in our data warehouse, and Firebolt can quickly query it to generate quick results."

Cons

"There is a need for improvement in these aspects, mainly in the scope of data types and some complex functionalities which we can perform in RDBMS."
"One area where Amazon Redshift could improve is in adopting the compute-separate, data-separate architecture, which Delta, Snowflake are adopting, and a few others in the cloud data warehouse spectrum."
"Amazon should provide more cloud-native tools that can integrate with Redshift like Microsoft's development tools for Azure."
"We recently moved from the DC2 cluster to the RA3 cluster, which is a different node type and we are finding some issues with the RA3 cluster regarding connection and processing. There is room for improvement in this area. We are in talks with AWS regarding the connection issues."
"Improvement in the immediate response and the process of getting into a call could be helpful."
"The product must become a bit more serverless."
"It is difficult to work with unstructured data and JSON documents."
"Improvement could be made in the area of streaming data. The capability can definitely be improved."
"Firebolt's engine takes a long time to start because it needs to make engine calls."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's around $200 US dollars. There are some data transfer costs but it's minimal, around $20."
"The price of the solution is reasonable. According to the RA3 cluster particularly, it provides 128 GB of storage with only four nodes. If you can manage your computations processes with the help of materialized views and proper queries. I think the IP clusters are very useful and overall fair for the price."
"The cost will depend on how you set up your warehouse and what kind of data you store."
"It's not very pricey compared to other tools. I would rate the price as 5 out of 10."
"Redshift is very cost effective for a cloud based solution if you need to scale it a lot. For smaller data sizes, I would think about using other products."
"This solution implements the pay-as-you-use model, so no license. Pricing could be cheaper."
"I have heard complaints about the solution’s pricing, and thus I rate it as a five."
"One of my customers went with Google Big Query over Redshift because it was significantly cheaper for their project."
