Struggles with handwritten document accuracy and cost concerns persist
I just wanted to read some bank statements, receipts, and scan documents. I only tried it for those purposes, but I didn't get to use it extensively Amazon Textract was easy to use. The training processes were also straightforward. Despite its ease of use, I had concerns about its accuracy. The…

Pre-trained models work well, but it is very expensive
We have to do manual validation for some of the things due to the OCR engine not being so accurate. For example, S is read as 5, 5 as S, 2 as Z, and Z as 2. In the case of currency, if one dot is missing, it gives a completely incorrect number. These discrepancies should be fixed because if the OCR itself doesn't work properly, then AI doesn't help with that. When AI is used for training models, the AI Center works precisely, but if the data itself is wrong, we can't do anything. If the extraction of data is proper, it definitely helps. However, 20% errors could be reduced if the OCR engine were better. In future updates, I would like to see better handling of issues such as when a dot is missing in currency, for example, with dollars, it should handle that automatically. It's very expensive. If the volume increases, we can't afford to use Document Understanding. We are thinking of moving to another solution because we are expecting 80,000 to 100,000 invoices.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Amazon Textract was easy to use."
"OCR technology is undoubtedly the most valuable feature and the feasibility of integrating data processes with AI and machine learning models is fascinating."
"UiPath provides a useful feature that allows us to classify documents as invoices or not."
"In UiPath Document Understanding, I use two extractors. One is the Intelligent Form Extractor and the other is the Machine Learning Extractor. The first one is very useful and user-friendly. When we have a single template or two to three templates, Intelligent Form Extractor is much easier to use. But if we have multiple templates, it's better to go with ML Extractor as you can train the model with different templates."
"The highly visual and user-friendly interface was a standout feature."
"Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten...The solution's technical support is good."
"The most valuable feature is key-value pair and table extraction."
"We are working with 40,000 different vendor templates. Document Understanding can understand and process various formats without much manual effort to configure the templates. That wasn't the case when we were using Microsoft."
"Has a very good machine learning feature."

Cons

"The product has not given correct results for me. It was not accurate, especially with handwritten items and documents with pencil marks, which Amazon Textract failed to identify correctly."
"Currently, we have to train multiple templates because the column size and row size change in each PDF."
"It would be much easier if UiPath increased the count of pages. Currently, they are allowing one million pages for $10,000 per month. I would prefer to increase the page count or reduce the dollar count in terms of processing the documents. I would prefer $6,000 per month for processing 2 to 3 million pages per month. It will then be much easier for companies with a low budget to use this product."
"UiPath Document Understanding has challenges with handwriting and screenshots."
"The solution must localize the built-in features for supporting Arabic scripts so we do not rely on third-party tools."
"They can include some features in utilizing the product of assessment understanding, or more specifically, a better efficient handling of the ML skill, which right now is not that efficient."
"The extraction and classification process should be simplified."
"Sometimes, when the number of items is very large, the solution doesn't properly identify them."
"At times, the scanning functionality of the tool may fail to generate accurate output, resulting in the need for manual input."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution’s cost increases for machine learning or artificial intelligence because we have to go for UiPath Orchestrator."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive, I rate the solution a nine."
"The cost per license is significant, approaching ten thousand dollars."
"It is expensive. The license cost for UiPath Studio has risen to around 3.5 lakhs last year, and I am uncertain how much the increase will be this year. They have also increased the bot prices."
"I find the pricing to be fair."
"I find the pricing to be somewhat on the higher side."
"UiPath's pricing model is complex and based on AI units, which are consumed during model training and use."
"The price is on the high end."
