Struggles with handwritten document accuracy and cost concerns persist
I just wanted to read some bank statements, receipts, and scan documents. I only tried it for those purposes, but I didn't get to use it extensively Amazon Textract was easy to use. The training processes were also straightforward. Despite its ease of use, I had concerns about its accuracy. The…

Pre-trained models work well, but it is very expensive
We have to do manual validation for some of the things due to the OCR engine not being so accurate. For example, S is read as 5, 5 as S, 2 as Z, and Z as 2. In the case of currency, if one dot is missing, it gives a completely incorrect number. These discrepancies should be fixed because if the OCR itself doesn't work properly, then AI doesn't help with that. When AI is used for training models, the AI Center works precisely, but if the data itself is wrong, we can't do anything. If the extraction of data is proper, it definitely helps. However, 20% errors could be reduced if the OCR engine were better. In future updates, I would like to see better handling of issues such as when a dot is missing in currency, for example, with dollars, it should handle that automatically. It's very expensive. If the volume increases, we can't afford to use Document Understanding. We are thinking of moving to another solution because we are expecting 80,000 to 100,000 invoices.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Amazon Textract was easy to use."
"Recently, they have introduced GenAI, which allows us to extract documents even faster and without hurdles."
"I found UiPath Document Understanding helpful in automating different types of processes. One process can be split into multiple processes or sub-processes. You can also use it for ID management or extracting data from IDs, such as passports or government-issued IDs, which I like."
"The solution allows us to continue with vendors whose information comes in correctly and to stop the automation for vendors with many items that are not clearly defined."
"Machine learning is the most valuable feature of UiPath Document Understanding."
"Document Understanding's best features are the action center and verification mode."
"I like the clear and organized way in which UiPath has structured the labeling process, as well as the user-friendly development environment."
"One of the most valuable features is the intelligent recognition of the fields. The algorithm is able to recognize them based on the pattern. Also, the machine learning model enables you to use predefined solutions. The machine-learning capabilities of the solution are very cool."
"The quality of the input documents is crucial because sometimes healthcare providers prefer automated processing rather than human review."

Cons

"The product has not given correct results for me. It was not accurate, especially with handwritten items and documents with pencil marks, which Amazon Textract failed to identify correctly."
"The extraction can be better. ABBYY FlexiCapture has more capabilities than Document Understanding. It can also extract automatically without training, whereas with Document Understanding, we need to train everything."
"If there were more integrations with Veracode or the AWS server, so we don't have to completely transfer our data and keep data on our servers, that might increase security."
"It would be much easier if UiPath increased the count of pages. Currently, they are allowing one million pages for $10,000 per month. I would prefer to increase the page count or reduce the dollar count in terms of processing the documents. I would prefer $6,000 per month for processing 2 to 3 million pages per month. It will then be much easier for companies with a low budget to use this product."
"Currently, we have to train multiple templates because the column size and row size change in each PDF."
"Sometimes we have challenges when we need to read something like a barcode, so we must use the Cisco algorithm to solve the issue, or I have to ask developers for help specifically to capture this kind of information. There are other processes, such as refunds, that we still must do manually because there is no way to use automation to solve this issue."
"The extraction and classification process should be simplified."
"They could work on the digitizing and classification of documents."
"UiPath Document Understanding's ability to handle diverse document formats, including scans and signatures, needs improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"It is expensive. The license cost for UiPath Studio has risen to around 3.5 lakhs last year, and I am uncertain how much the increase will be this year. They have also increased the bot prices."
"UiPath Document Understanding compared to the competitors is high."
"One of the biggest challenges we face with UiPath is the pricing structure."
"UiPath Document Understanding is considered a bit expensive compared to other options like Microsoft Azure, which can offer similar quality at a more affordable rate."
"UiPath Document Understanding is priced high compared to its competition."
"The price is on the high end."
"I do not know about its price, but for large organizations, UiPath is cheap, whereas, for small organizations, UiPath is high. For example, if 500 licenses are needed for one company, UiPath is cheap. If only 5 licenses are required, UiPath is costly."
"The cost per license is significant, approaching ten thousand dollars."
