Orchestration has streamlined complex data pipelines and supports rapid table onboarding
Sometimes I feel that the scheduler in Apache Airflow does not work properly, with tasks not getting triggered. Additionally, the UI may be a bit more responsive. Logging and debugging can be enhanced. Not all tasks support XComs, and the Spark job which runs is not able to push XCom into the task. I have to run another task in order to see the output of the previous task. Currently, Apache Airflow that I am using for my client requires me to put my password itself, which is my account password. It could be integrated with Okta or something, because they already have Okta for other things, and two-factor authentication can be implemented in the login. From a governance perspective, it is adequate. There are different controls such as admin user. From the authentication point of view, it could be improved.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The UI is very simple and easy to learn."
"Apache Airflow is easy to scale and its UI improves with each release."
"Apache Airflow can be integrated or used to run multiple files."
"This is a good product and I definitely recommend it."
"The core features are strong, which are supported by Apache Airflow variables, DAGs, and connections."
"For low to middle scaled tasks, Apache Airflow could be a substitute for Control-M."
"The user interface for monitoring and managing workflows has been excellent, particularly in the latest version. c"
"The solution is quite configurable so it is easy to code within a configuration kind of environment."
"The biggest benefit of using the product is identifying the issues, enabling a more flexible working method."

Cons

"Adding more automated components in Apache Airflow for basic things like exporting the data would be helpful."
"The dashboard is connected into the BPM flow that could be improved."
"There is a need for more features on experimental evolution steps."
"There is a minor issue with the manual work in Airflow, as everyday activities are managed manually. There is no dashboard for us to check all the Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs); a dashboard would help us analyze the work better."
"I would like to see it more friendly for other use cases."
"It is not suitable for real-time ETL tasks."
"One area for improvement would be to address specific functionalities removed in recent updates that were previously useful for our operations."
"Programmatically, it's very good, and it doesn't have any competitors, but you cannot develop anything in Airflow UI. You need to develop everything within the program. In the market, other tools have come up recently as competitors to Airflow, and they also give graphical programming options, whereas Airflow doesn't provide that feature currently. All the DAGs you want to build need to be coded in Python."
"The platform's initial setup process could be better."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is an open-source tool. There are no additional fees or charges associated with the product."
"The cost is quite affordable."
"We are using the open-source version of Apache Airflow."
"Apache Airflow is a free solution that can be downloaded and ready for use at any moment."
"Although Airflow is open source software, there's also commercial support for it by Astronomer. We personally don't use the commercial support, but it's always an option if you don't mind the extra cost."
"The solution is free if you use Amazon AWS."
"It is an open-source solution."
"For the time being, it doesn't cost anything."
