Supports secure remote authentication and provides comprehensive user activity tracking
The most important feature is the security capability because it provides a substantial amount of security for admin-related activities. Fortinet FortiAuthenticator can be used from anywhere in the world, and the authenticator services function globally. This global accessibility is one of the critical advantages, particularly since admin features are critical and security is a real concern. With Fortinet FortiAuthenticator, secure usage of firewall services and related functions is achieved. A complete log of all users who access the authenticator setup is maintained. Monthly logs are reviewed to check for any unnoticed activities. Each authenticated user's complete activity history is recorded. This logging capability allows for providing access to more admin users while ensuring security is not compromised and all users can be monitored.

Pros

"It keeps track of users and their IPs no matter where they are in the network. When users roam, we don't have to worry about not mapping them to an IP."
"Fulfilled our requirement at a good price."
"The product’s most valuable feature is integration with FortiGate, FortiToken, FortiTalk, and multi-factor authentication."
"The first valuable feature is being able to see everything on one platform. This includes logs and authentication failure."
"The solution is simple to deploy, simple to use, and user-friendly."
"The feature I value the most is the one-time passwords because it helps to authenticate users so you know the timing of their usage."
"FortiCare can provide prompt replies."
"FortiAuthenticator has helped a lot of our customers in the way that they do the business when they onboard their clients to the data center."

Cons

"I got a few error messages which turned out to be themselves errors."
"The stability of Fortinet FortiAuthenticator is rated as six out of ten, indicating some instability issues."
"Regarding Fortinet technical support, I would say a six. Most of the time, the engineer will take time, such as 24 hours or 48 hours, maybe even more, because most of the time, they appear, gather the logs, and then disappear."
"If you can't authenticate to protect transactions, and the security is weak, it's a problem."
"For scalability, you need to size FortiAuthenticator properly. It's not 100%, maybe 80% on the scalable side."
"We have issues with HA (high availability). These should be addressed in future releases."
"The GUI has some shortcomings and can be made better. The GUI is not great."
"It does the job I paid for, but the graphical interface could be improved."
"The solution could be more automated. It should be able to let me automate a lot of things so that what normally is done as a matter of manual processes can be handled quicker. Slow integrations can be taken up/out if there was more automation."
