Has a learning curve that is easy to deal with for users
With the tool, the learning curve is really good. I don't have to spend time in long training sessions, which is typically required for other platforms. As my company is a Microsoft kind of shop, we have developers, making the learning curve easy compared to other tools. When it comes to integration with the back-end systems, manufacturing companies are still using some other apps in their environment. Getting data or pushing those analytics data back to the back-end systems is relatively simple while using Azure Sphere and other integration points, and so that is why there is a clear direction from our company's end customer that they need an Azure solution.

Centralized firewall management has saved time and improved network security across locations
Barracuda CloudGen Firewall could be improved as it has a very high learning curve. It is definitely not a one and done firewall, as a one and done firewall requires a lot of dedicated time to get the machine running the way you want. To improve Barracuda CloudGen Firewall, there should be a lot of tutorials and videos online to help new users. Multiple ways to configure for the same service or feature takes time to determine your customized build. In addition to previous points, the interface can sometimes be clunky when trying to determine how it is organized or arranged.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's stable and the performance has been great."
"When you use this solution, you get a dual processor with all the necessary security and Microsoft updates supplied, so you don't have to be concerned about the security aspect related to IoT because Microsoft takes care of this."
"I think my team is comfortable with the installation of the product."
"Its central management, especially when it comes to distributed environments, is great. I can generate and save a setting and then apply that setting across the network with just one click."
"The features I find most valuable is the VPN and the fact that we can apply our policies to the program."
"Scalability is always good because the company wants to be able to handle large customers."
"The most valuable features of Barracuda CloudGen Firewall include antivirus protection, anti-DDoS, and IPS."
"In addition, during the eight years I have been using Barracuda, I have had hundreds of thousands of attacks on my network and all of the attacks have been addressed by Barracuda with a proper solution for all of them."
"We have seen a clear return on investment with Barracuda CloudGen Firewall, as it has improved operational efficiency, reduced the risk of downtime, and delivered tangible cost savings for our organization."
"Scalability is good - there are many different models and you can pretty much go from small shop to giant ISP."
"The drag and drop features of VPN are really convenient to be configured, and the VPN tunnel provides a secure environment in the organization."

Cons

"The type of edge devices being addressed through the suite was limited, however, even that has also significantly increased."
"The lack of awareness of the products among our company's customers is a challenge that needs to be looked at and improved by Microsoft."
"One of the pain points of this solution is that the full Linux box is not exposed to all developers. This restricts what the applications can do as they cant be adjusted."
"I think the command line could be improved. In Cisco, Palo Alto and Juniper, the command line is a little more friendly."
"From a performance and scaling perspective, I have seen that performance can be impacted when all security features are enabled."
"Can be underpowered if you choose to use all available add-on features. Just be careful when sizing your unit. Make sure you take into account what features you will be turning on, and work with your sales rep to get the model that can handle that load."
"The biggest downside is that it is quite an expensive product."
"We are, however, not completely satisfied with their link redundancy handling capabilities."
"The solution could be improved with visibility into the traffic about what's happening at a given time."
"When you do any commit, it locks your next access. If you are making a change to the device, from the security standpoint it's fine, but from the admin side it's not good. When you make changes, after each and every one it becomes locked."
"The price is a bit higher than other vendors."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This solution offers secure IoT communication to the cloud at a fairly low cost."
"In general, it tends to be cheaper than most solutions."
"The 600 series is about USD $10,000 a year and the 80 is USD $400 a year."
"It would be nice if the pricing and licensing offered for less."
"We pay around 150 to 200 Euros per year and there are no additional costs."
"The solution costs more than 800 Euros to purchase an F18, which is an entry model, and then another 500 Euros for instant replacement, and 500 Euros for energized updates. The total package would be around 1,900 Euros for five years license and all updates for an entry model."
"It is a product with a very transparent model of licensing. In the sense of hidden expenses, they do not exist with this model. "
"The product is a bit cheaper than some solutions."
"The pricing is very cheap compared to Cisco ASA, which we used before, and compared to Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet. Barracuda has different solutions for different people. So for my SMB-level infrastructure, Barracuda has given me a proper solution that is half of the price of Palo Alto or Fortinet."
