Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Setup is smooth and management is seamless, while improvements in email filtering transparency enhance efficiency
For data correlation, we just haven't worked long enough with it to assess its impact on our overall threat response strategy. We prefer a system that simply informs us when there is a problem; we don't want to engage too much in threat hunting. Therefore, we're not looking to create a SOC from this, which is also why we moved from XDR to MDR. There are areas for improvement, including the difficulty in getting the right handles on the applied email filters. It's sometimes unclear why one email is treated as spam and another is not, even if they contain similar content. Making the process of how emails are treated a bit more transparent would be beneficial.

Monitoring has improved data loss detection and now spots abnormal internal file transfers quickly
In my understanding, the best feature Darktrace offers is the identification of copying files, which acts as a DLP, and it is a main concern for companies because users sometimes copy data outside without knowing, especially those without a technical background. When I mention the DLP-like feature and file copying detection, the alerts have been very timely, as we get an alert within a couple of minutes, which is excellent. Even if some developers are working after hours and copying files, our SOC team detects this, and most of the time they call us so we can identify the users. The alerts are quite accurate and proactive.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"From a single pane of glass, you can easily manage all of your endpoints."
"Threat identification and detection are the most valuable features of this solution."
"The solution helps find bugs, and it is safe to use to prevent attacks by hackers."
"WildFire AI is the best option for this product."
"The solution's most valuable feature is its ability to rapidly detect certain hardware files."
"It is a simple platform to use."
"The best feature of Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is that it collects logs from different sections such as the endpoint, the network, and the cloud, making it easy to investigate alerts, collect some of the investigation packages related to the infected machines, and provide live response."
"When the pandemic started, Palo Alto came up with many solutions, which helped with the quick shift from on-premises to the cloud."
"Since then, we are working with it, and so far, we have no problems; it's working smoothly with email security."
"The HyperDetect feature in GravityZone XDR is effective."
"It provides an in-depth analysis and gives recommendations, along with a historical search capability."
"I would rate GravityZone XDR more than nine out of ten."
"The solution has an automatic patch management capability."
"I appreciate the overall utilization of AI to enhance security posture."
"Scalability is pretty easy. It's easy to increase the capacity. You can just add on licenses to the existing license, and the duration of the license can be adjusted. For example, you've already bought a license for a year, and you want to add some more users. We can just add on licenses for the remaining period so that the entire organization can have the same expiry date. That makes renewal easier."
"I find that the auto-response capability is most valuable."
"The most valuable feature is the alerts. The alerts are meaningful. The event rolls up into meaningful and actionable alerts rather than just being noise."
"The most valuable feature in Darktrace is that it gives me a comprehensive, detailed view of my network and whatever is happening inside it."
"The solution is outstanding from a monitoring perspective."
"It is very stable and easy to use."
"Darktrace is extremely stable."
"It provides a comprehensive cybersecurity solution that monitors my cloud accounts as well as my local network."
"The platform has many modules, and each module examines a different situation in the behavior."
"It has helped the organization to detect any malware affecting the machines...The network monitoring and the email monitoring features are very valuable for us."

Cons

"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks could improve by offering remote management. It would be useful to look at the client's issue to fix it."
"I don't like that they have different types of licenses. For example, if users select a license, they think they will have all the platforms they need to improve their network or security. But after some time, Palo Alto Networks changed their licensing, and some of the features that, for example, were free at the beginning now have a cost. I think the integration can be improved. For example, a lot of tools are just integrated through APIs."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is a very good product, but financially, it is very expensive, so the company should look into that area."
"The GUI could be improved. It's a little bit cumbersome. It could be more user-friendly."
"It's more focused on network communication. If a customer wants to increase the level of protection and start working with documents, it's impossible to integrate these features into the system. It's more of a communication-oriented system than a content security-oriented system."
"Every 30 or 40 days, there's a new version and we need to go and make sure our customer's laptops are upgraded."
"The solution can never really be an on-premises solution based simply on the way it is set up. It needs metadata to run and improve. Having an on-premises solution would cut it off from making improvements."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks can improve mobile integration to allow access to the console."
"The solution’s pricing could be improved."
"The resource consumption is high for Bitdefender GravityZone XDR, nearly using one gigabyte of RAM, especially on Windows 10 and 11."
"Another area of improvement is CPU utilization. CPU utilization could be improved."
"There are areas for improvement, including the difficulty in getting the right handles on the applied email filters."
"The product could be improved by offering a single panel for the management of all Bitdefender products. Additionally, there might be a need to simplify the interface in the future."
"It's not very mature, and additional costs are involved."
"I am not so satisfied with the pricing model for Darktrace. The price is a little bit high compared to other solutions."
"The solution's user interface and stability could be improved."
"It's sometimes a challenge getting logs from different sources."
"Darktrace should have more automation and integrations with other security monitoring tools."
"I believe their network monitoring device licensing module could use some improvement."
"My only criticism of the product is that its licensing model isn't flexible."
"In the next version, I'd like to see penetration testing."
"There are numerous false positives."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is present, but when compared to other competitive products, I would say it is not less expensive; however, when all of the other added values are considered, the price is reasonable."
"It has a yearly renewal."
"I feel it is fairly priced."
"It is "expensive" and flexible."
"The price of the solution could be reduced. I have customers that have voiced that the solution is good for the value but if I want to sell more of the solution the price reduction would help."
"Our customers have expressed that the price is high."
"The return on investment is from the user side because we have seen the performance of it increase the delivery time of the product if we are using too many web-based and on-premise applications. In indirect ways, we saw the return of investment in terms of performance and user satisfaction increase."
"I don't recall what the cost was, but it wasn't really that expensive."
"It's not the price of the software itself that makes it expensive. It's because you have to buy a VM; you have to buy additional hardware. All those things make it slightly costlier."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a six out of ten."
"It is expensive. I don't have the price for other competitors."
"It was $3,600 a month or $2,000 plus or so. I am not sure. Its licensing is pretty simple."
"I'm unfamiliar with the exact cost, but we have a yearly license and had to pay for Darktrace's services before the deployment. The product is very expensive, so some organizations can't afford to pay the total amount directly, meaning they often seek a partner or pay in installments, which increases the price more."
"This solution is expensive."
"There is an annual license to use Darktrace."
"The pricing is subscription-based and it is high."
"The price of Darktrace is high and could be reduced. We pay approximately $30,000 to $54,000 annually."
"Darktrace is expensive. You can pay for the license yearly."
