Weekly mobile releases have become reliable and pipeline incidents have dropped dramatically
The improvement I would suggest for Bitrise is that the cost is significantly the friction point. Mac build machines are considerably more expensive than Linux equivalents. As our team has grown, the monthly bills have scaled accordingly with limited room to optimize without reducing concurrency. The self-hosted runner option was evaluated as a potential cost-saving measure, but the documentation and tooling for it are still less mature than the cloud product. Build debugging remains a log parsing exercise. There is no interactive debugging session or live SSH access into a failing build environment, which would be a meaningful productive improvement. The analytics dashboard is very minimal and basic and lacks the depth that anyone would want for capacity planning and trend analysis.

GNU Make is used as a build system tool. Most people don't use GNU Make directly but utilize other systems like CMake to generate Make files, which are then run by GNU Make. This is common for tasks like compiling C++ code. In the industry, AI developers, for example, use GNU Make in their work…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Bitrise has had a significant positive impact on my organization because we do not have any other platform to realize these builds and deploys with mobile apps."
"Previously, we used to take one day to deploy the application, but now in thirteen to twenty minutes through our automation and with the help of Bitrise's flexibilities, we deploy the application."
"With Bitrise, as a team of 10 to 12 people, we are able to independently generate the build and save overall 20 to 40 hours per day."
"Bitrise has positively impacted my organization by helping me reduce time by around 50% or more while I am using it for my personal project."
"Bitrise has positively impacted my organization because previously we used to generate builds on our local machine, which was very time-consuming, and now all the build generation and the automation execution are directly done on Bitrise, and the automation execution is triggered from Bitrise to AWS Device Farm."
"Bitrise has positively impacted my organization because at that time there was no automation in our Android and iOS releases; it saved a lot of time and eliminated many human errors that were happening earlier, and we were able to ship code and features faster to production."
"We can react to any customer requests and deliver when there is a new feature or bug fix, quickly spin up the build, and then have it available for external testers on Play Console or in App Store Connect."
"It reduced the release time by approximately 50 to 60 percent, improved deployment consistency, and also reduced our manual intervention in mobile releases."
"Make tool, originally made for the GNU operating system, helps in the generation of executable from the main program source files."
"Makefiles are extremely easy to work with using any preferred editor. GNU Make can be run directly from the terminal, not requiring any time wasted on clicking."
"I have not encountered any scalability issues with GNU Make. It is as scalable as the project's structure is, and then some."
"GNU make is a build automation utility for running builds on various Linux flavored platforms."
"The initial setup of GNU Make is straightforward."
"Setup is extremely straightforward."
"Full-featured syntax allows building strategies as simple or as complex as one wishes, and declarative approach fits the task really well. Wide adoption also means that everybody knows what GNU Make is and how to use it."
"I think this product has all you need."

Cons

"As for Bitrise's AI capabilities, the accuracy and reliability of output were not that good. Most of the time, it redirected me to a human or advised me to open a ticket, so it was not really useful."
"I think Bitrise could be improved if it was easier to generate Android QA and iOS at the same time."
"The only thing that might be an impact if you are an American company is that most of their team is based in Europe, so for critical feedback or bug resolution that requires an architect from their side, you might need to wait until the next day or use European hours, but they always have someone on call."
"In 2019, Bitrise was very new in the market, so there were many bugs and errors."
"Bitrise is sometimes stable, and sometimes I experience problems with Bitrise."
"Bitrise can be improved because it is quite expensive at the moment."
"Bitrise can be improved by offering a more customizable dashboard, faster troubleshooting for failed builds, and more advanced cost visibility for pipeline usage."
"One improvement Bitrise can have is enhanced debugging tools for analyzing failed builds."
"Vanilla GNU Make does not support any kind of colored output."
"GNU make is a bad candidate for builds that require incremental builds often, as it does not support this feature."
"Poor reliability for larger or incremental builds."
"Make’s reliability is very poor and is not suitable for larger or incremental builds."
"GNU Make requires using the Tab symbol as the first symbol of command line for execution. In some text editors this can be problematic, as they automatically insert spaces instead of tabs."
"Vanilla GNU Make does not support any kind of colored output. A wrapper named colormake exists to work around this, but native (opt-in) support would be welcome."
"GNU Make does not provide traditional customer support."
