Effective data integration and reliable process automation enhance productivity
The features of BizTalk Server I have found the most valuable include all the connectivity to systems such as SAP and others. It is sometimes a complicated system, but you can do almost everything with it. BizTalk Server offers workflow functionality that I find very effective for process automation. They call it orchestrations where you can define logic for integrating systems. Regarding the adapter framework in BizTalk Server, I usually work with standard features. You have a tool called BizTalk Mapper, where you can define the mappings between different formats. It's less about programming on the very low level; it's rather doing configuration on a higher level.

Developers gain flexibility to build custom controls with numerous integration options
Looking forward, IBM WebSphere BPMS could add more adapters to integrate with SAP or Salesforce integrator in upcoming releases. Regarding AI-driven process optimizations, we have not implemented these features with IBM WebSphere BPMS. In recent versions, IBM has introduced some generative AI features, and we plan to migrate to the newer versions within approximately one year.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The BizTalk Server business rule engine was very useful for us and has helped us for the last 12 years."
"Compared to the current solutions I use, like Azure Logic Apps and other cloud services, BizTalk was far better and more reliable."
"The AS2 communication protocol is one of the most advanced processes."
"The most valuable feature is its reliability and stability. The first version of BizTalk was released in 2000, and many companies still use it. It was stable until 2013 when we had support."
"Boomi has advantages over BizTalk Server because it is more flexible, low-code, no-code, easy to implement, and has a fast go-to-market."
"BizTalk Server offers workflow functionality that I find very effective for process automation."
"The tool's most valuable feature is its integration with the banks. Its messaging and routing capabilities are good."
"BizTalk is easy to implement, deploy, install, and configure."
"It has allowed the companies that I work for to expose their services outside of their own network."
"This product is flexible in its ability to integrate processes and it can be extended and integrated with other software."
"The most valuable feature of IBM WebSphere BPMS is the systematic framework it provides for building different systems."
"IBM WebSphere BPMS provides significant return on investments, especially in the BAW component."
"It's a good product."
"I definitely would recommend this product as a solution as I do with most of our clients."
"The UI capabilities of the solution are great, and the speed of delivery is good, with everything delivered quickly and seamlessly in order to bring things to the market in an efficient manner."
"We like the feature in which we can trace back instances."

Cons

"These items are not so critical when compared with some performance issues which can take place within projects of really significant functional volume."
"It's an on-premises system, requiring physical servers for deployment. This is different from Azure; you don't need any servers with Azure. If you have a subscription, you can do whatever you want. There are unit restrictions based on the environment (like non-production vs. production) in BizTalk. You need physical servers and databases. In Azure, those are not required – it's all in the cloud."
"BizTalk lacks native cloud support. BizTalk doesn't offer in-built support for cloud. We need to use third-party adapters to connect it to cloud services."
"Updating things in BizTalk is a headache."
"I didn't find anything particularly valuable in BizTalk Server. It didn't help me, and we are moving away from BizTalk Server to a new platform."
"We encounter issues with deployment when SQL Server and BizTalk Server are on separate machines, especially with the MSDTC."
"It's a complex product because you have many degrees of freedom to connect different parts together. Whether it's sensible or not, is up to you, but the machine does allow it. But because of the vast degrees of freedom, it's complex."
"The product's deployment can be quicker"
"The solution lacks acceptable stability."
"There is a need for more capabilities in low-code and no-code development to increase efficiency and make implementation simpler."
"They need more monitoring capability."
"We have problems with the slowness and the UI and that impacts the user experience for who use it."
"The user interface could be improved, because you can say it is not the best on the market."
"The user interface could be improved, and although integration opportunities are good, they could be improved further."
"Looking forward, IBM WebSphere BPMS could add more adapters to integrate with SAP or Salesforce integrator in upcoming releases."
"We've experienced a lot of glitches on the product."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"BizTalk Server is cheap. I would rate its pricing a two out of five."
"BizTalk Server is not freeware. There's a significant licensing cost involved. Be sure you will actually utilize its features fully."
"It was not cheap, but it was affordable."
"The solution is expensive."
"Based on the knowledge, it is relatively cheaper than Azure Identity Services and cloud services in general."
"The cost will depend on the client's requirements."
