Strong privileged access controls have protected critical sessions and improved credential oversight
The best features of CyberArk Certificate Manager include its robust privileged access management capability, session monitoring, and strong defense against threat vectors. PSM, PIM, and application legacy connectivity for CyberArk Certificate Manager are probably the best in the market. The real-time threat intelligence feature helps with preventing security breaches as it never allows any privileged access to get into the application until you check out the user ID and password, effectively managing credentials. It also includes MFA and session monitoring, tracking who is checking out the password and credentials, which are capabilities that cannot be bypassed, thus neutralizing threat protection. I use features like PSM, PIM, session monitoring, and everything else with CyberArk Certificate Manager.

Flexible certificate management has supported strict compliance and complex PKI customization
EJBCA Enterprise needs to improve its user experience regarding the UI. EJBCA Enterprise could be improved by simplifying the deployment process. Currently, making a custom installation requires creating and deploying WildFly before the EJBCA Enterprise installation, which adds complexity. Additionally, I believe EJBCA Enterprise should enhance its REST API options, as the current offerings are limited compared to the very complete SOAP API. Furthermore, deploying an OCSP server could improve the certificate situation by providing real-time updates on certificate status for users who may not be well-versed in cryptography. Lastly, EJBCA Enterprise should develop better data exposure so that if a team wants real-time data access in the PKI about certificates, there would be an endpoint for that, allowing for statistical insights.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"CyberArk Certificate Manager is doing its best with multiple layers of security, and while they face challenges with legacy applications, they can still connect to web applications, rich applications, desktop applications, and cloud-native applications."
"Automating anything, whether on-prem or cloud, is possible."
"CyberArk Certificate Manager has excellent capability in handling certification renewals; whenever you specify any validity period that needs to be renewed within certain days, it triggers automatically, and I appreciate that aspect."
"We have reduced 80% to 90% of our outages with Venafi, which impacts the revenue substantially."
"Since using CyberArk Certificate Manager, it saves a lot of time, reduces errors, and makes compliance much easier."
"The support is definitely great. What I like best about Venafi is that it's very easy to get somebody on a call and get any of my questions answered. That's probably the biggest thing. Besides the fact that it's a mature product and it works, the support is a big deal."
"The reporting analysis is what I liked the most about it; that was the nicest thing about it—it helped keep track of certificates and their status and where we needed to make improvements, update, replace things."
"It's definitely worth the money to have Venafi as a tool; it's definitely miles away from the competition, in my opinion."
"A notable feature is the extensive configuration possibilities regarding certificate templates and profiles, offering unparalleled flexibility compared to other PKI solutions on the market."
"The best features EJBCA Enterprise offers, in my opinion, are its superior security compared to some other MFAs which are not anti-phishing."
"EJBCA Enterprise has positively impacted my organization by providing ease of use, saving my team time, reducing errors, and improving security in a noticeable way."
"The automation and scalability of EJBCA Enterprise is definitely one of the biggest standout features."
"The best features EJBCA Enterprise offers are that it is very easy to install, especially with the appliance or OVA version we are using, it integrates easily with HSM, it is easy to monitor because it has a good GUI and website interface, and it is more secure than other competitors."
"EJBCA Enterprise stands out in terms of flexibility and scalability."

Cons

"The support from Certificate Manager needs improvement based on my experience. The response time needs improvement, and it takes too long to resolve or provide solutions for some tickets."
"Currently, specific processes require manual installations due to the lack of built-in integrations."
"The on-prem version is far more mature than the cloud version, which lacks a lot of features that the on-prem version offers, at least when we did the POC and evaluated the product."
"I would like to see included in the next release of Venafi integration with the cloud HSM's, Hardware Security Module. Additionally, I would say other cloud services, because it's not only cloud that's essential. If you have a customer that has a lot of their IT moved into cloud, integration with different cloud services is always an area to improve."
"Venafi excels in automating certificate rotation and deployment but could enhance its offering by improving support for hardware security modules like Fortanix and providing more advanced, out-of-the-box integrations with public certificate authorities for DNS re-verification."
"Regarding stability, I observed that in the last year, CyberArk Certificate Manager was down two to three times without any notification."
"Venafi's overall installation could be made easier."
"There are quite a few different technical aspects of Venafi that I feel they just missed out on; I'd have to look at my notes for the specifics."
"I choose a rating of eight because EJBCA Enterprise console takes a lot of time to load and keeps buffering when I click on a certain link."
"Customer support is good for regular questions, but when I require expert advice on high-skill questions, it can be challenging."
"I chose a seven or eight for my rating because, as I mentioned, the integrations should be much easier and the troubleshooting for certificate management needs improvement."
"The customer support for EJBCA Enterprise is good, and the overall turnaround time is fast."
"I assigned a three rating because EJBCA Enterprise is a high-resource system, and there are instances where the CPU peaks for no apparent reason, making it difficult to investigate."
"The user interface looked quite orthodox and could be improved a little bit."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Venafi's pricing appears to be competitive within the market."
"The pricing model is complex, considering factors beyond the number of certificates. This complexity can make our payments to Venafi challenging if costs continue to rise. It is good but more expensive than the competitors."
