Enables customers to manage security effortlessly with intuitive features and easy integration
In terms of improvements for Fortinet FortiGate, they could offer evaluation licenses, as compared to Meraki, which provides a 90-day evaluation. In Fortinet FortiGate, they do not provide standard evaluation licenses; instead, we need to request them from the OEM through the account manager for POCs. If we want to conduct a demo, we need to work with real hardware. In comparison to Cisco, we have DCloud, which helps with providing demos to customers, but in Meraki, I need to reach out to them, book a lab, and they need to provide all the hardware. I need remote access and L3 engineers to program it; only then can I offer a real-time demo to the customer.

Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) can be improved in several areas. First, the interface could be a little more intuitive for new users. The Smart Console is powerful, but it has a steep learning curve when you start using it. Some simple functions for common tasks would help. Second, the initial setup and configuration take quite a bit of time and expertise. It would be helpful if there were more guides, wizards, or templates to speed that up. Third, the price model could be more transparent and flexible. The license cost can add up quickly, specifically when you want to add more advanced features. Finally, I would appreciate seeing better integration with some third-party security tools we use. Right now, we have to do a lot of manual work to make everything talk to each other. Overall, these are minor things. The core product is really solid and does what it is supposed to do very well. The documentation could be more comprehensive in some areas. When we run into issues, the documentation does not have clear answers, so we end up contacting support. Speaking of support, the response time could be faster sometimes. We have had cases where we need help with a certain security issue, and it takes longer than we would prefer to get a response. As for features, it would be nice to have more general reporting options so we can customize reports for different teams and stakeholders without having to do manual work afterward. One more thing, better mobile access to the dashboard would be helpful. Sometimes we need to check on security alerts when we are away from the office, and the mobile experience is not as smooth as it could be. Again, these are improvements that would make it even better, not issues with the core product itself.

Computer Framework at a healthcare company with 1,001-5,000 employees
It works well with a highly-active cluster.
It is important for us in case of a disaster, or in case of a failure of one server. This means that the high availability is the most important part for us. It is important for us that the system is available and no connection is going to be lost if the system is restarting one note, or something like that. This is the main request for us for a good firewall protection product.

Pros

"The reliability of Fortinet FortiGate is through the roof, we're experiencing 99.999% availability consistently."
"Fortinet FortiGate has it all."
"Fortinet FortiGate's most valuable features are the UTM package which provides internet blocking restrictions and load balancing, additionally, the solution is easy to use and the security reporting is good, and the security fabric which they have launched Fortinet FortiGate IPS is very good in terms of giving details."
"We have peace of mind; we do work in a very dangerous environment, the internet, and this device gives us alerts and the opportunity to know what is going on."
"Overall, this is a very good solution and in fact, a good starting point for a broader cyber security approach for the business."
"I've found the solution to be very good."
"Fortinet FortiGate has several valuable features; the configuration and policy setup are easy to implement, and there are embedded features including DLP, WAF, and proxy capabilities with security profiles for various functions."
"The best feature of Fortinet FortiGate is the IPS or IDS implementation."
"The product is flexible."
"All of the features are very valuable, but the most valuable features are the sandboxing and the advanced IPS/IDS."
"The most valuable feature is the management using the Single Pane of Glass."
"The price point is good."
"I would recommend this solution because it is a firewall that replaces many other devices."
"The packet inspections have been a strong point. Our identity collectors have also been helpful. In many ways, Check Point has been a step up from our SonicWalls that we had in-house before that. There's a lot of additional flexibility that we didn't have before."
"The solution is safeguarding our financial databases and always has prevented fraud while giving employees peace of mind."
"One of the most advantageous features of Check Point firewall is its multi-interface capability."
"High availability is very consistent and provides good firewalling and stability."
"It works well with a highly-active cluster."
"The stability of the product is fantastic; it is a really proven system and I never had any type of problem where the system was unstable or had a software failure."
"We did not have issues with scalabiliy."
"It has given us better application control."

Cons

"Some of the software stability could improve."
"To the best of my knowledge, Fortinet does not have a CASB solution and Fortinet does not have a Zero trust solution."
"They should add a feature for detailed reporting."
"More advanced AI capabilities would be beneficial in future updates."
"FortiWAN was supposed to help in doing intersite linking, but we've realized that most of the ISPs use BGP."
"The pricing of the solution is expensive, so it could be cheaper."
"I have faced challenges related to support, as I have encountered issues where support engineers are not aligned within the time frame, and sometimes they request multiple logs unnecessarily, causing delays and leaving a bad impression on my end users."
"It is difficult as an end-user to setup continuing license contracts."
"Check Point NGFW is not scalable enough."
"Check Point should include additional management choices; for example, Check Point does not offer full management support via browser."
"It would be nice to add more features to the WatchTower app to be able to perform certain administrative functions without the need for local access."
"The presentation of the reports need to be more user-friendly."
"Debugging is very complex when compared to Fortinet, for example. That's the worst thing about Check Point. The deployment of the solution is harder than it is with the competitors. But after you've deployed it, the operation is easy."
"The SmartUpdate interface is a little bit crowded if your company has a lot of software items."
"The whole solution has room for improvement."
"The debugging of VPN tunnels is very stressful."
"HA failover is not stable."
"After some experience with the solution, we had to do some redesign, but generally, we were happy with the product."
"The hardware needs improving as we had a lot of problems with the hard drive reliability, both with the firewall and the intrusion protection system."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is more expensive than Sophos. Fortinet is overall more expensive than Sophos. The small range of Fortinet, such as 60F and 80F, is more expensive than the small range of Sophos. Sophos is cheaper. In addition, if you jump from 80F Series to 100F Series, the price doubles."
"It's a very full-featured and it's priced well solution."
"The pricing is justified. It's a little pricey, but what you pay for is what you get."
"It scales well if you know what to buy from a physical box standpoint. They seem to offer something for every level."
"I rate the pricing an eight and a half on a scale of one to ten, where one is low, and ten is high."
"The price range is quite acceptable and normal."
"The product pricing is reasonable."
"There is a licensing fee; it is on a yearly basis."
"The pricing and licensing are pretty steep. They know that they are good, so they are pricey."
"Check Point Firewall costs more compared to the other firewalls in the markets, as pricing is little high. However, it is easy to take the license and use it in the firewall."
"The price is high in comparison to other solutions."
"The price could be better. I think Palo Alto pricing is high, and Check Point isn't much better. FortiGate is cheaper. I think when I implemented this solution, I recommended buying a yearly subscription."
"While it may be slightly more expensive, when compared with competition it is reasonable."
"The solution is significantly more expensive than Fortinet, although this holds true to a lesser extent when compared with Palo Alto."
"One of the main reasons that we went with Check Point is that they provide a good solution for a firewall but at an affordable price. As a state agency, we can't afford Cisco Firepower. It's just out of our budget to be able to pay for something where licensing and hardware are so expensive. Check Point has really met our needs for a budget-friendly solution."
"Before you buy, check which features you need, and if possible, I recommend signing up for at least a three-year license."
