Ensures efficient performance and supports network growth with optimal speed
Catalyst Switches are efficient and swift, which is valuable for my organization. I experience optimal speed and effective configuration, making them stand out compared to other switches. The PoE switches offer more ports on SFP, and it is efficient in use. Overall, the switches provide me with the value I expect in terms of speed and efficiency.

Rock-solid connectivity and WiFi coverage
It's a hardwired solution so our customers do not have to use a mesh network — I really dislike that. It causes too much delay, etc. As with any product, there is always room for improvement. A good router is not cheap. A good switch is not cheap. Let's say somebody develops a new frequency — 7GHz. Well, in that case, you'd need a special router. I have some customers who request Cat7 for their homes. That's way too much. So I'd say, "What are you going to run over here? Let's just run fiber optics. Then the customer will respond, "Well, I read somewhere and other people have told me that if you're going to wire your house, go with Cat7." I'd say, "Sir, you're not going to even utilize Cat5e." I use Cat5e, and believe it or not, I can pump at 10 gigabits per second with Cat5e. The same was true with ePoE — now we have ePoE+. Some switches with ePoE cannot supply as much juice as the modern ePoE+, which requires much more power. The basic switch doesn't have the capacity to deal with that. The documentation could be improved; it's quite basic. It pretty much just covers some basic IP information, defense, and how to change the administrator password — that's pretty much it. I am a dealer, I shouldn't have to contact support for basic answers.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I've had no problems with the stability of this solution."
"Cisco Catalyst Switches are valuable for their reliability and performance."
"When it comes to Cisco Catalyst Switches, one can say that the legacy switches are stable."
"The product is stable, and it performs well."
"We have dealt with Cisco's technical support in the past. They were especially helpful and very polite. They are always there if we need them and their insights are always excellent. I would say that we have been satisfied with the level of support we've gotten so far."
"It is a very scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"It uses many protocols to ease operations, such as CDP and the interoperability of other Cisco products."
"The most valuable features of Cisco Catalyst Switches are that they are very common. If you talk to someone most likely they will have a Cisco Catalyst Switch, they will not mention other names, such as Juniper, ProCurve, Dell, or anything else. The most common product in networking in my country is Cisco. Everywhere you go they talk about Cisco."
"The solution is less expensive than other options."
"The ePoE+ is great."
"Remote access to the router is a huge time saver."

Cons

"The support is not the quickest."
"Their price should be cheaper. We lose a lot of work because of the price that they have."
"The product could offer more integrations with other solutions."
"The solution is quite expensive for our clients. It's a pain point for some companies. They should work to reduce the price."
"The only improvement I would like to see with Cisco Catalyst Switches is the pricing."
"The stability must be improved."
"Cisco forces end-users to accept billing for some capabilities or services that they may not want."
"Cisco applies restrictions in relation to renewals on a yearly basis. Many other brands don't have restrictions. If Cisco lifted them, they wouldn't lose so many clients to competitors."
"You do need to be an IT person in order to handle the initial setup. An AV person would struggle a bit."
"The documentation could be improved; it's quite basic."
"Documentation and access to it could be greatly improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"These switches are expensive."
"There needs to be some improvement with the Cisco DNA licensing activation process, it is difficult at the moment."
"The pricing is on the high end."
"Try to buy everything you need in bulk purchases and ask Cisco for volume discounts."
"The solution provides a good balance between the features and the cost structure"
"I don't know a lot about the price, but they are affordable compared with other solutions."
"I would rate the features-to-pricing ratio at six out of 10. My advice about licensing is that you should have a perpetual license, not one that is subscription-based."
"The price must be reduced."
"The price completely depends on the environment. There are no additional fees."
