Straightforward implementation, scalable, but performance could improve
When using Cisco VXI in virtual environments there tends to be a lot of bugs with files you have to deploy across the virtual environment. You configure for hours, and then there is a bug that stops you, and you notice that you wasted hours. There's always room for improvement with these virtual environments because you're not dealing with the actual equipment, you're dealing with a virtual version of it that you have to install in a virtual environment. The performance of Cisco VXI could improve. It requires a lot of hardware and even if you install it on a server it is heavy on resources.

From my perspective, there is significant room for improvement in Horizon 8. Many customers are actively seeking alternatives to VMware due to recent licensing changes after Broadcom's acquisition, necessitating upgrades or bundles that they often do not require. Given that Omniser builds on VMware technologies, this creates a negative perception, pushing customers to consider different brands or solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution has been doing a good job for us."
"The initial setup of Cisco VXI is straightforward."
"The ease of deployment is one of the most valuable features. If I want to install something, I can have a test phase to see what sort of impact it will have and whether it will affect production. So I can install it on my lab, make sure it is okay, and if it is, I can deploy it directly to the users or to the staff."
"It is a very scalable solution."
"The app virtualizing is a great feature; the system developers use it to deliver apps to targeted staff and it basically reduces the server infrastructure resource while providing good functionality."
"VMware has a lot of experience in virtualization — they are the pioneers in virtualization."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is secure remote access to resources."
"Organizations who buy lots of desktops or laptops, call centers, military, and high security profile organizations can benefit from it."
"When COVID-19 started, we organized our call center remotely and the solution allowed our users to work from home."
"VMware Horizon View is a stable solution."

Cons

"When using Cisco VXI in virtual environments there tends to be a lot of bugs with files you have to deploy across the virtual environment. You configure for hours, and then there is a bug that stops you, and you notice that you wasted hours."
"Sometimes, the protocol itself gets a bit laggy. If you have less than optimal switching and routing, it can get kind of laggy."
"I would like to see simple load-balancing for smaller environments that lack large solutions like F5, or NSX; it should be redundant or unavailable but in a simple way. Perhaps limited to only two components; if more are required, a paid load balancing solution can be used. Load balancing for simple environments, or simple redundancy, is sorely lacking."
"One thing is I'd like to be able to see I/O acceleration within VMware instead of having to use a third party, like VMTurbo."
"The cost of licenses is always a challenge."
"My deployment is complex and I hope it will only take a month."
"The customer service and support team could be better."
"In the area of automation, there are some improvements needed in the solution."
"The initial startup costs for this solution are relatively high."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is an expensive solution when there are bugs. I'm always ready to give money for a complete solution where there are no bugs in it, but you will never find it."
"Horizon 7 is cheaper than some competitors, like Citrix, because it includes solutions for the server side, the VDI side, and the hypervisor side."
"The solution is more expensive in comparison to Citrix but when comparing the technicalities VMware Horizon, is worth the money."
"This solution is expensive. A lot of companies in Mexico find that the price is too high."
"The pricing can be relatively competitive, but sometimes you have to go back to VMware and ask for additional discounts. You can make it competitive If you're prepared to put in the work. The list prices and standard discounts may not be competitive, but if you push hard enough, you can get the price to where you need it to be."
"Its cost is fair. You can go for a free trial, but for initializing a project, you need to purchase a license. There are different types of licenses."
"I rate the solution's pricing a five out of ten."
"Pricing for Horizon is relatively high, earning a rating of one out of ten."
"Customers pay a licensing fee."
