Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The platform's most effective feature is quickly recovering virtual instances into a separate environment."
"The backup and restore solution is a big step forward from our last solution and packs more than just backup in a box, allowing for additional features such as Disaster Recovery and utilising the space available in the cluster for storing files."
"It has vastly improved our ability to save money by backing up and replicating our backups off-site."
"Because of the excellent data reduction, we are able to back up all of our systems for the first time and use less space than our old backup appliance."
"Compared to the products that we had earlier, Cohesity replaced our primary backup solution, runs VMs, and hosts all our backup mount points in our environment at a fraction of the cost."
"We were able to eliminate tape backups by utilizing Cohesity to backup our VMs, replicate the backup data to a second offsite Cohesity cluster, and replace our older legacy NAS devices, which greatly simplified our environment and provided a substantial increase in speed."
"Cohesity has improved our backup architecture."
"Converged system. It makes much more sense to have the backup server running on the same hardware as the storage for backup and recovery."
"Cohesity is extremely easy to use and intuitive."

Cons

"They could add more intelligence features in the workflow through automation."
"At times, you may click the wrong server or click too fast and accidentally restore a cluster of servers. It would be very helpful to have a cancel option under restores."
"We have had our share of minor bugs over the past two years and a few bigger ones."
"We don't love the Exchange integration, it works fine but requires a third-party application called Kroll."
"The one area where we would like to see additional improvements is with reporting."
"The error handling could be improved."
"The container functionality is very limited at the moment, not covering the whole container."
"It would be great to add SQL Object Level restore, so user objects, tables, etc. can be restored without having to restore the entire DB."
"The support from Cohesity is good, but it is not as exceptional as Nutanix."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The additional cost is cloud storage, which the public cloud provider charges."
"The tool's pricing is average."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly. It is cheaper than other backup solutions."
"It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive."
"Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten."
"We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers."
"If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
"The pricing model is impressive and very effective."
