Modern AI workflows have become faster and data validation has supported complex microservices
We could use hyperscale vector indexing and upgrade the storage engine so that density and throughput would be higher. If Couchbase Server introduced natural language query capabilities, that would be helpful for everyone to use it in a more effective manner. The logging part could also be improved. Advanced security and logging would help us make the application more resilient. Couchbase Server is the best, but if natural language query capabilities were introduced, it would be easier for developers. Instead of writing queries, they could write using natural conversion language and give prompts to Couchbase Server, and they could get results in seconds.

Real-time messaging has transformed customer updates and now powers responsive AI experiences
The primary benefits of Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB include horizontal scalability. The main advantage is that it handles data growth without requiring database redesign when traffic increases. Low latency access is another key benefit, as read and write operations are very fast, which is extremely helpful for real-time applications. Flexibility is also valuable because Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB uses JSON schema format, which contrasts with traditional table schemas that require time-consuming changes. In modernization scenarios where client requirements change rapidly, Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB offers more flexible schema design. High availability is another important feature, as it is well-suited for business-critical systems. My overall experience using Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB with other Azure services shows that it is more flexible compared to SQL Database and more readable because of its JSON format, making it easy to understand. It is more interactive because viewing the Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB schema clearly shows what is happening in the application and what will be achieved. In contrast, SQL requires writing many queries to obtain details, making Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB more suitable and flexible. My team's experience developing with Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB SDKs and APIs has been very comfortable and easy to implement. We are currently migrating .NET applications to Python-based AI solutions using Copilot, where we performed reverse engineering and are moving to forward engineering. We use APIs to connect with Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB and manage database containers and items, performing CRUD operations such as create, delete, and read operations, and querying JSON. We are using REST APIs with Python-based solutions, with a service layer and Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB integration.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"Couchbase Server is a high-performance NoSQL document database that we primarily use for caching and generative AI to develop modern applications using rapid data access and offline support for offline mobile applications, along with flexible data modeling."
"Couchbase Server has positively impacted my organization as we have significantly used it in most of the applications."
"From knowing how Couchbase Server works and the performance outcome which I saw in real projects during battle testing and during anti-DDoS efforts, during my own project, I still keep using Couchbase Server and I am comfortable with it."
"Couchbase Server has had a positive impact on performance, scalability, and development flexibility."
"Couchbase Server provides us with more flexibility and a great cache."
"I would advise others considering Couchbase Server to note that compared to other tools such as MongoDB, it is easier to use, reliable, and offers high availability while continually adding more features, making it a suitable choice, especially for large data environments."
"Couchbase Server's primary benefit is that our data is in JSON form, and it is very fast in comparison to saving and retrieval with low latency."
"I primarily use Couchbase Server for cache because this cache is very useful and the performance is excellent."
"From a global distribution perspective, Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB is good and easy to handle."
"The initial setup is simple and straightforward. You can set up a Cosmos DB in a day, even configuring things like availability zones around the world."
"It is integral to our business because it helps manage schema and metadata for all our documents and customers. The AI insights we glean based on Azure OpenAI also end up in Cosmos DB. We need a NoSQL store because the schema is dynamic and flexible, so Cosmos DB is a great fit. It has four nines or possibly five nines availability, excellent geo-distribution, and auto-scaling."
"The solution's enhanced performance is its most valuable aspect."
"When all resources are at the same point, there is no lag and in production we have experienced minimal issues, with the project live for two years without any database problems."
"Having a NoSQL solution that can do that in a 100 percent Azure shop is the best fit we could want."
"I would recommend Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB to other users without hesitation."
"This is a good product and I recommend it, especially in cases where people want to keep their information outside of the organization and on the cloud."

Cons

"I am happy with the present support of Couchbase Server, but I would appreciate if customer support were more proactive and provided immediate responses."
"Overall, Couchbase Server is performing well, but there are a few areas where improvement is needed."
"Couchbase Server requires more enhancement, particularly with the MCP launched by Couchbase Server which is not yet fully functional and offers limited tools that are not beneficial for automating production workflows."
"To improve Couchbase Server, I believe they need more educational tutorials focused on developers, as understanding how to use it effectively is essential, and they should prioritize developer needs over sales perspectives."
"With one year of experience, I can suggest improvements for Couchbase Server."
"It would be great to have a kind of pub/sub in Couchbase Server."
"We could use hyperscale vector indexing and upgrade the storage engine so that density and throughput would be higher."
"I would like the speed of transferring data to be improved."
"The RUs still appear to be a black box for everyone. Even though they explain read and write RUs, it remains unclear for many users."
"I think Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB can be improved by providing continuous backup for multi-region rights. I believe it's available for non-multi-region rights, but there are many features that are locked behind continuous backup that I can't use because it's not enabled yet."
"Once you create a database, it calls the container, and then items show up. A better description and more guidance would help because the first time I created it, I didn't understand that a container is similar to a table in SQL."
"We should have more freedom to tweak it and make our own queries for non-traditional use-cases."
"The topic of RU consumption needs better documentation. Now that Microsoft has partnered with different LLM organizations, such as OpenAI, a bot could guide us through different metrics present in Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB."
"A couple features that would help me in architectural solutions would be customizable architecture or customizable documentation, which both Microsoft Azure or Microsoft Teams can provide."
"There are multiple approaches to implementing multitenant architecture on Azure Cosmos DB, but there is still no single or best-recommended approach when you have a big variance in the size of your tenants. That is something that still needs to be worked on."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"It is expensive. The moment you have high availability options and they are mixed with the type of multitenant architecture you use, the pricing is on the higher end."
"Its price is in the middle, neither too low nor too high."
"The pricing for Cosmos DB has improved, particularly with the new pricing for Autoscale."
"Pricing, at times, is not super clear because they use the request unit (RU) model. To manage not just Azure Cosmos DB but what you are receiving for the dollars paid is not easy. It is very abstract. They could do a better job of connecting Azure Cosmos DB with the value or some variation of that."
"Azure Cosmos DB is generally a costly resource compared to other Azure resources. It comes with a high cost. We have reserved one thousand RUs. Free usage is also limited."
"From a startup point of view, it appears to be expensive. If I were to create my startup, it would not have the pricing appeal compared to the competition, such as Supabase. All those other databases are well-advertised by communities. I know there is a free tier with Azure Cosmos DB. It is just not well advertised."
"Pricing is mid- to high-end."
"I would rate Cosmos DB's cost at seven out of ten, with ten being the highest."
