I would characterize common frustrations related to Delinea Secret Server rather than using the term dislike. One area is the complexity for the administrative part. While it is straightforward in core values, configuring advanced policies, custom templates, and other areas including discovery scans and detailed reporting have a steep learning curve and may require extra training. The user interface and terminology present another challenge. Some users feel that the user interface can feel dated or overly complex, with terminology around secrets and folder structures taking time to master. Pricing perception is another point where some costs are mixed, while many others find Delinea Secret Server more affordable and flexible than tier one competitors. However, smaller teams still view enterprise licensing as a significant investment. I have observed poor technical support, particularly in multiple reviews. The support can be slow, limited, and sometimes unhelpful when troubleshooting complex configurations or stability issues. Aggressive or untransparent sales practices also present a concern. Some customers on G2 have cited frustrations with hidden costs, such as unexpected EC2 instance fees and core features being unbundled or oversold during contract negotiation. Complex implementation and setup is another significant challenge. The initial configuration, deployment, and managing advanced policies or connectors requires specialized expertise that most organizations do not have, and the steep learning curve compounds this issue. Users transitioning to the cloud-hosted version frequently complain that the updated interface and permissions structure feel slow and problematic compared to the legacy on-premise setup. Integration and API challenges represent the final area of concern. The platform points out challenges with API tokenization and external system integration, and the lack of documentation is one of the key points I would highlight. This limitation affects the ability to integrate with external systems effectively.

We had an issue once with Pulumi Enterprise versioning where one of the versions didn't work for us. I had to downgrade the Pulumi Enterprise version to make things work. I suggest ensuring that the higher versions of Pulumi Enterprise always work without issues. When the Pulumi Enterprise seminars and webinars happen, they're always dedicated to other time zones. Having a time zone for Australia Perth time would be nice because all the seminars are always at 2:00 a.m. in the morning for me at Perth or maybe after 5:00 p.m. or before 8:00 a.m. would be ideal. I enjoy attending the Pulumi Enterprise seminars, but they're just at odd times.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The tool has many models. The tool also has a good cloud version. Also, the customers need not control any components on the solution side. The product's licensing model is also good since customers can choose a price that is most useful for them. The solution also supports password management for the users in your organization."
"Thycotic is a product that is so friendly that it can be used by nearly anyone and everyone, and that is a good place to be."
"I prefer Thycotic because of the security, the fact that it is easy to administer, and the features."
"Delinea Secret Server is robust, and the solution provides value-added security for sensitive credentials."
"I like that you can change the password remotely."
"The ease of granting access to a secret without having to share the actual password and the password rotation were the main features I found effective for password management."
"The GUI interface is well-designed and user-friendly."
"I have found most valuable the automatic scheduled password rotation and remote desktop monitoring. Additionally, the documentation is readily available and easy to find and the dashboard is straightforward."
"If you have a complex infrastructure or a big team, start using Pulumi Enterprise without any second thought."
"Before using Pulumi Enterprise, our deployment time was between thirty minutes to an hour, and now we can change anything in our cloud environment in just a few minutes, like two or three minutes, generally reducing time by about sixty to seventy percent."
"Pulumi Enterprise has allowed us to be much more confident in the code changes that we are actually deploying and releasing, and, as an example, we're now unit testing all of our Pulumi Enterprise infrastructure as part of the CI pipeline, so we know quite confidently that the change is actually going to be successful before it's been deployed, which has been hugely beneficial for us."
"Pulumi Enterprise has positively impacted my organization because it has saved considerable time."
"Pulumi Enterprise is a very complete tool and it helps us a lot in our day-to-day work."
"<p>Pulumi Enterprise has made our infrastructure deployment more efficient.</p>"
"Pulumi Enterprise is way better than Terraform in my opinion because it has a declarative syntax that Terraform does not have, which is really valuable."
"<p>Pulumi Enterprise increases efficiency and reliability by providing seamless automation processes and tools while considering security and making secure infrastructure easy.</p>"

Cons

"In terms of stability, I would say, yes and no. We had some issues regarding the size of the disk space, which was a Thycotic side issue."
"The challenge for me with Delinea is that I may not be able to pitch it to an account with a low budget for PAM."
"The setup for this solution is complex."
"Installation can sometimes be difficult, depending on the environment."
"I have observed poor technical support, particularly in multiple reviews. The support can be slow, limited, and sometimes unhelpful when troubleshooting complex configurations or stability issues."
"The biggest challenge with this solution is the usability."
"The initial setup and deployment can be cumbersome. It's not an easy process."
"Improvements are needed in session management, behavioral analytics, and the reporting segment."
"I think debugging can sometimes be less intuitive; for example, because you're executing actual code to produce infrastructure, there's a mental gap between the code I'm writing, the Pulumi Enterprise engine, the desired state that we're after once the code actually executes, the provider, for example, in this case Azure, and the cloud resource."
"<p>There should be more investment in building a stronger community around Pulumi Enterprise, as the Pulumi Enterprise community is not that strong compared to its capabilities.</p>"
"In the past year, I remember instances when Cloud Code searched for documentation from Pulumi and usually returned a non-existent parameter, which caused me to spend a lot of time finding and removing the incorrect parameter."
"Additionally, I think the modules part is a bit weak."
"Pulumi Enterprise has some issues worth mentioning. The stacks can grow and the execution time appears to grow exponentially when the number of resources increases."
"<p>Additionally, I sometimes struggle to see what we are paying for; we use Enterprise, but does the money justify what you are being offered when you have Terraform for free which offers a majority of the features already?</p>"
"Pulumi Enterprise's scalability is limited as it is not particularly scalable. You should keep the project relatively small to avoid simultaneous Pulumi runs."
"Pulumi Enterprise can be improved by providing much better support rather than relying solely on AI."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is very expensive, and its price should be lower."
"It would be beneficial if it were reduced."
"It isn't terribly expensive."
"The pricing is standard in this business and we have no complaints about it."
"In the Nigerian market, the adoption of Delinea depends largely on an organization's budget. If they have the financial capacity, they might consider Delinea as a viable option."
"Compared to other solutions, Delinea Secret Server is competitively priced but on the higher side."
"There is an annual license fee per user and the price is fair."
"I would give the price a four on a scale from one to ten, with one being the cheapest and ten being the most expensive. We pay for the license on a yearly basis, and we paid for three years. It costs around 5000 a year."
