Quick and easy deployment; great recovery
Veeam should work more closely with vCenter. Sometimes the Veeam backup can cause errors that can affect some of operations within the VMware machines. I cannot say whether the bug is with VMware or Veeam, but the companies should work together on this. Also, when something breaks, it's not easy for us to fix. I'm running a banking solution at my company and when there's a problem, I need to be proactive and quick to resolve the problem immediately. Any time I spend on the phone with technical support translates into losses for my company. So, training would be very beneficial. Empower me to use your product efficiently. It would also be nice for long-term customers to receive some sort of recognition in terms of price reduction.

Have faced limitations due to high costs but have maintained reliability over time
The primary issue is the pricing, which is very expensive for my company's budget. We cannot afford to pay such a large fee. We are not Microsoft or BMW; we are a small company. As a small company, I have no power to negotiate directly with VMware. Perhaps larger companies have more opportunity to contract directly with VMware, but I do not have that leverage. The only path I can follow is to change solutions. Net.spA is a company working in the field of waste management. We are not a technological company, so we do not have a large margin to justify purchasing and maintaining the VMware infrastructure at current costs.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"My experience with the solution's technical support was perfect. They are so knowledgeable, all of them. They don't take any chances."
"If you're looking to size your physical hardware or you're looking to rightsize your virtual infrastructure, then definitely take a look at vROps."
"The most valuable features would be the insight into our operating environment as it lets us see what's going on with our virtual infrastructure, with our virtual machines, with our hardware, with everything."
"One of the most valuable features is the ability to see "before" and "after"; it will show you the current state, and then show you what it looks like after it does the optimization."
"This is the only product that's out there that can really do end-to-end monitoring, management, and at the same time, capacity management."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to check the right-sizing of a machine because that way I can assign the real resources that are needed."
"Scalability is good, I've used it in previous versions and I'm looking forward to using it in the current version, 6.7."
"The biggest benefit is because it's an app developed by VMware and we are a VMware shop, they play well together."
"We've gone from having no insight into the type of resources which we're using to a lot of insight, providing many different reports on how to keep our business running efficiently."

Cons

"When something breaks, it's not easy for us to fix. I'm running a banking solution at my company and when there's a problem, I need to be proactive and quick to resolve the problem immediately."
"The automation piece could be done simpler."
"Probably, there needs to be some sort of improvement in terms of the costing."
"What I would need more help with is establishing the correct baselines and that's something that's very subjective, based on each individual company."
"For me, more examples of the configuration of the solution in specific use cases would be better."
"For our operations manager, initial setup is complex, so you can't just have someone who just deploys ESX hosts."
"With our environment right now, stability is the one sticking point. There hasn't been a great deal of handholding in between the different versions, so we've run into problems with there being what I would call "more than just the average change between versions" and it's caused a loss of data for us in the past."
"I'd like to see a little more training, free training on the VMware site; to get some more information within the VMware community."
"With our environment right now, stability is the one sticking point. There hasn't been a great deal of handholding in between the different versions, so we've run into problems with there being what I would call "more than just the average change between versions" and it's caused a loss of data for us in the past."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Most small users don't adopt VMware Aria Operations until it's necessary. Small businesses are looking for it, too. We need more monitoring and insights, so we're analyzing solutions to help us out here. I rate the solution’s pricing a five out of ten."
"The initial costs are a bit on the higher side but the licensing is flexible."
"We have licenses on a three year basis. Licensing costs are much higher, but given the stability of the solution, it is a reasonable price."
"Pricing is good for us. We're non-profit so we get a break on that."
"The pricing is a little bit expensive. Licensing is an issue because there are always changes, and by that I mean cost increases. And that's not only for vROps but for VMware, vSphere, and all the products that are involved."
"It has reduced time to troubleshoot issues. With our customized dashboards, we can target issues and attribute them to the correct team."
"The predictive analysis of the infrastructure helps our customers to reduce downtime and improve capacity planning. Issues are fixed faster with vROps."
"There's a smaller category that stands out due to its affordability, especially for recent versions, which I rate as four or five in terms of value. However, if you're looking for a vCenter with older, more advanced features, it comes at a significantly higher cost, and I would rate it around ten. They provide us with a choice between a recent version and one integrated, and I lean towards the former."
