Quick and easy deployment; great recovery
Veeam should work more closely with vCenter. Sometimes the Veeam backup can cause errors that can affect some of operations within the VMware machines. I cannot say whether the bug is with VMware or Veeam, but the companies should work together on this. Also, when something breaks, it's not easy for us to fix. I'm running a banking solution at my company and when there's a problem, I need to be proactive and quick to resolve the problem immediately. Any time I spend on the phone with technical support translates into losses for my company. So, training would be very beneficial. Empower me to use your product efficiently. It would also be nice for long-term customers to receive some sort of recognition in terms of price reduction.

Have faced limitations due to high costs but have maintained reliability over time
The primary issue is the pricing, which is very expensive for my company's budget. We cannot afford to pay such a large fee. We are not Microsoft or BMW; we are a small company. As a small company, I have no power to negotiate directly with VMware. Perhaps larger companies have more opportunity to contract directly with VMware, but I do not have that leverage. The only path I can follow is to change solutions. Net.spA is a company working in the field of waste management. We are not a technological company, so we do not have a large margin to justify purchasing and maintaining the VMware infrastructure at current costs.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"My experience with the solution's technical support was perfect. They are so knowledgeable, all of them. They don't take any chances."
"The most valuable feature is the ability it has to adjust the efficiency inside the infrastructure."
"This solution has helped to improve my organization because we use it for reporting when management wants to know what we have in the data center in our virtualization environment, it can alert us as to what resources we need to buy for the next financial year, prevent downtime by warning of upcoming failures, and help us efficiently reuse resources so we save a lot with it."
"The ROI is that it saves us a lot of time, it helps us keep our customers up, and there is very little downtime."
"For me, it's the dashboard."
"It is about being able to keep tabs on your VMware environment as a whole, instead of having to log into your vCenter all day and keeping tabs."
"The tool has many benefits in the monitoring and template functions to integrate with various virtual machine operating systems in the cloud service."
"If you're not using it, certainly go out and get it."
"I've found vROps' predictive actions, monitoring, reporting, and provisioning features to be useful."

Cons

"When something breaks, it's not easy for us to fix."
"When something breaks, it's not easy for us to fix. I'm running a banking solution at my company and when there's a problem, I need to be proactive and quick to resolve the problem immediately."
"I feel that I was better able to troubleshoot it myself by using Google than by using the tech support."
"Dealing with the technical support the first time for that internal CA certificate, was quite painful."
"Unfortunately, it hasn't done a whole lot in that regard. It's taken a lot of setup time to kind of keep it in tune."
"Technical support has been hit or miss. We're a BCS customer and it's a struggle at times."
"Moving forward, I would like to see some tighter integration with the vSphere Web Client, just so that I don't have to open multiple windows and jump back and forth. We've currently running vSphere 6.7 and there is a lot tighter integration between vROps and vSphere, but it can always be better."
"I would like to see more integration with the login site and different tools."
"It's complex and not intuitive. It has a long learning process. It can be frustrating trying to get the correct information from it."
"vROps has a hypervisor level of monitoring going on in our data center. We are using other products, like SolarWinds, to have a service and OS-level of monitoring. Because we are using two solutions simultaneously for different levels of monitoring, it would be really nice in the future to have a service monitoring or OS-level of monitoring in vROps, e.g., adding the support online for monitoring services, like Linux services, Linux Databases, and Linux servers as well as Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Active Directory, or other Microsoft services, since we use them a lot. It would definitely help us in the future if vROps implemented this feature."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"We have definitely seen ROI by removing unnecessary servers and VMs. By having vROps as an assistant when it comes to monitoring and managing resources, it has helped us a lot with cost savings and managing expenses."
"I would give the solution a three out of five, with one being cheap and five being expensive. There are some elements of the pricing that are good, and some areas where I feel like I'm being charged for something the product can't provide yet."
"Our manpower costs have been reduced due to the automation in conjunction with the usage of the dashboard."
"It is an affordable solution that doesn't require any additional costs."
"I would like to see a free offering. Cost is always a factor in any sort of line. Obviously, the value added is there and it's worth it."
"Pricing could always be cheaper, but it's acceptable."
"The initial costs are a bit on the higher side but the licensing is flexible."
"The pricing is a little bit expensive. Licensing is an issue because there are always changes, and by that I mean cost increases. And that's not only for vROps but for VMware, vSphere, and all the products that are involved."
