Has streamlined provisioning and enabled centralized monitoring across hybrid environments
Considering nowadays, all the concentration is focusing on data protection, data security, and data resilience with Dell Storage Resource Manager (SRM). I suggest to the Dell team to concentrate on data security and cybersecurity, as it is the most significant concern. I work in a bank, and for financial organizations, much focus is spotlighted on how to protect data, secure data, and prevent any kind of fraud. Many financial organizations' data is corrupted and hacked by third parties, so it's crucial to find ways to protect data security and save data by creating an air-gap solution. Having ideas on an air-gap solution to prevent data leakage without a network layer would be beneficial. Maintaining a security layer is important, so this is my expectation for Dell.

Gives an end-to-end view of your environment and has a very good interface for report creation and customization
NetApp OnCommand Insight is a pretty good tool, and the only concern I have with it is the price. Its price is quite high and could be improved because the licensing feature of this particular tool is on a per GB basis instead of the price being for the complete tool itself. The more you discover, the more you need to pay, and this makes NetApp OnCommand Insight more costly when compared to other tools which are available in the market. My company doesn't have a cloud environment, so all storage is on-premises. I'm not aware of the integration of NetApp OnCommand Insight with the cloud environment, but the tool fits all the marks in terms of what I require and need. It checks all columns for me, so at the moment, nothing comes to mind in terms of additional features I'd like to see from the tool in the future.

Pros

"It has many features and capabilities such as local protection and global protection."
"It's all about ease of use and reliability."
"Dell Storage Resource Manager (SRM) is most useful because it is easy to use and easy for provisioning on all hostings, proactively viewable to manage, and the storage controller information is given to the functional, all in a single dashboard."
"It is easy to control the storage."
"Ease of administration fits in well with all the EMC SAN storage."
"The partitions function well for backup storage."
"This is a product with a high demand right now because of its ability to not only manage but to handle more tasks."
"The most valuable features of either of the SRM tools were the reporting and real-time ability to show management that additional storage was required or who was using what storage and bandwidth."
"This is a very good tool to see everything on an overview: Where and what are the devices, how much storage you are using, how much Apple storage, and with what connectivity is being used."
"For troubleshooting, for the way we use it, it's good, and for a large environment, it seems to have been integrated in pretty well."
"It's a stable product."
"It gives us a better view of into what is happening with the environment, like performance issues or predicting problems."
"Right now, it's our single pane of glass to monitor our entire infrastructure."
"The company has saved money by narrowing down issues faster using servers and performance."
"It gives us the ability to look at our storage and figure out what we are doing with it. Without it, we are sort of blind."
"We didn't have good insight into what our systems were doing until we had that product."

Cons

"Technical support is inadequate."
"We were unhappy as no one from EMC heard our plea for assistance and it became expensive in terms of the license and the amount of resources it took."
"I would like to see third-party storage management."
"When it was deployed, it was challenging to manage."
"Technical support needs improvement, as well as the engineering resources, who do the upgrades."
"Technical support is not sufficient. It needs improvement to be comparable to HP's call center which is knowledgeable and provides good solutions."
"To be frank, I believe there are many other applications that allow us to manage the array, along with in-depth analysis. Even EMC has developed better products than ECC."
"In my country, Dell has not ensured the replacement parts for critical components, which is very dangerous."
"We have had great success with OCI from the reporting perspective, but when it comes to other heterogeneous data sources, there might be some disconnects."
"It is very hard to implement. It takes a long time to learn."
"Just make it one product, not in pieces like performance and discovery. Stop having all these individual pieces."
"Our initial experience with OCI wasn't good."
"I think there are issues with the Java Stack. Java seems to use a lot more memory than other solutions."
"The UI: They have been growing and changing. There's been some growing pains with that, but they are moving into the new HTML5 interface, which is fantastic."
"We suffer a little bit from stability. At each batching cycle, we find some services that need to be restarted."
"OnCommand Insight lacks AI to protect against ransomware and identify users accessing things abnormally."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is mid-priced."
"There are no licensing costs for this product."
"The company has saved money by narrowing down issues faster using servers and performance."
"We just made a major investment back in May of this year, so we'll have it for another four and a half or five years easily. Thus, we have a five year bumper to bumper agreement."
"Pricing for NetApp OnCommand Insight could be cheaper. On a scale of one to five, I would rate its price a four."
"Pricing by terabytes, not the end of the world, and that's okay. Stop if I want this, I have to buy that. Just release it as a single product."
"The cost: It is expensive as a solution. You need to be an expert to get anything out of it and we don't have that kind of expertise."
"We like that it is one license and everything is bundled in together."
"For me, it is always too much. Licensing is on TBs, and I think, nowadays that is outmoded."
