The customer finds value in adopting a platform from Jira, particularly for the ease it brings to their processes, both for on-premises operations and batch processing. Their objective is to create a new customized server specifically designed for generating certificates. This server is intended for the generation of certificates, emphasizing that it is not meant for free domain replacement. The platform of choice for this purpose is Digital One, a product that offers full customization and aligns well with the customer's preference for tailored solutions. The process of certificate issuance from Microsoft's AB involves renewal or replacement every five years. However, an issue arises in that this particular certificate requires renewal annually instead of the standard five-year cycle. The challenge is attributed to personnel changes, where an administrator responsible for the process resigns within the five-year period. To address this, we seek an automated solution that operates seamlessly with a single sign-on approach, eliminating the need for user IDs or passwords. The automation involves approval and subsequent deployment without complexities. Being a partner of DigiSet, we rely on the implementer for support in service deployment, installation, and resolution of any issues that may arise.

Supports secure remote authentication and provides comprehensive user activity tracking
The most important feature is the security capability because it provides a substantial amount of security for admin-related activities. Fortinet FortiAuthenticator can be used from anywhere in the world, and the authenticator services function globally. This global accessibility is one of the critical advantages, particularly since admin features are critical and security is a real concern. With Fortinet FortiAuthenticator, secure usage of firewall services and related functions is achieved. A complete log of all users who access the authenticator setup is maintained. Monthly logs are reviewed to check for any unnoticed activities. Each authenticated user's complete activity history is recorded. This logging capability allows for providing access to more admin users while ensuring security is not compromised and all users can be monitored.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I emphasize the importance of automation in Wi-Fi management, particularly in tasks such as certificate renewal. The requirement extends to the ability to generate new certificates from a local server within the data center. There is a need to establish a new server for local certificate issuance and highlights the desire for automation in the deployment process. The emphasis lies in leveraging automated solutions to streamline these operations effectively."
"The most valuable feature is the communication based on PKI certificates."
"The public key infrastructure certificates issued by the PKI servers helped me set up good client-server authentic communications."
"FortiAuthenticator is really good software that integrates very well with Fortinet products."
"The integration into tools, including CI/CD pipelines, is easy and handy."
"It is very stable. We have never had any issues with this solution."
"The most valuable feature is the flexibility in using the SMS messages."
"It keeps track of users and their IPs no matter where they are in the network. When users roam, we don't have to worry about not mapping them to an IP."
"The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiAuthenticator are easy to configure, secure, and the application has good performance."
"Fulfilled our requirement at a good price."
"The first valuable feature is being able to see everything on one platform. This includes logs and authentication failure."

Cons

"From an automation perspective, PKI is a bit of a debatable topic and can be improved as time demands."

"There are some protocols, such as SHA and SHA-2, that are not supported."
"The support team is pathetic and does not properly understand the solution."
"The interface is a bit misleading in areas."
"I think the tool could provide this solution on the cloud."
"Regarding Fortinet technical support, I would say a six. Most of the time, the engineer will take time, such as 24 hours or 48 hours, maybe even more, because most of the time, they appear, gather the logs, and then disappear."
"Technical support used to be much better. Fortinet seems to be downgrading, so everything takes longer to get a response in comparison to the past."
"It would be helpful to receive a code by yourself for authentication instead of it registered to a phone."
"It can not use SQL to query FortiAnalyzer directly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would rate it seven for the price."
"I would start off with a VM including the base license and scale according to the number of users you need to authenticate."
"FAC is an affordable solution for Middle Range (200E/400E) and also needs a package of mobility agents (2,000) perpetual."
"The product has affordable pricing compared to other vendors."
"When we buy the Fortinet FortiAuthenticator device there is a comparison between price and security."
"I rate its pricing a three to five out of ten."
"I rate the price of Fortinet FortiAuthenticator a three out of five."
"The product could be more competitively priced."
"It is usually cheap. Without a license, you can use some basic features. You can buy a 20-year license and implement the solution once."
