A cost-effective and streamlined virtual desktop infrastructure solution with a user-friendly interface and simplified management
The singular management interface is crucial, particularly for the operations team as it minimizes complexity and enhances operational efficiency. The simplicity of the management tools is a key highlight, especially when compared to other solutions like Citrix, where there is often complexity due to various components such as controllers, storefronts, and different servers.
Tim Abboud - PeerSpot reviewer
User-friendly, reasonably priced, and simple to install
It can be challenging to assess the stability of Horizon because it relies heavily on the underlying infrastructure, including vCenter, network, and storage performance. It is important to pay attention to these factors when evaluating the stability of the system. We rely on vCenter, network, and storage performance, and any weakness in these areas will affect the performance of Horizon. When discussing this with customers, I always emphasize the importance of these factors. If the foundation is solid, Horizon should not experience any performance issues. If the fundamentals are weak, we will encounter issues with Horizon on a regular basis. However, the product itself, VMware Horizon, is highly stable. While the Horizon product itself is very stable, it is important to be well-informed about any potential side effects from using other related products.

"The scalability of the solution is quite good."
"The singular management interface is crucial, particularly for the operations team as it minimizes complexity and enhances operational efficiency."
"Nutanix Frame is easy to install, manage, and upgrade."
"Users can log in from anywhere and from a variety of devices."
"The solution has a lot of Visual Desktop's persistent and non-persistent desktops which publish the applications."
"I like that it updates quickly and allows users to have virtual desktops."
"The solution's most valuable aspect is the VDI - the remote virtual desktop interface."
"The console is straightforward and easy to understand for the end user. It can be deployed on any device, including iPads and Mac OS. Users can access their daily applications and resources provided by the VMware Horizon environment from any device."
"The ease of deployment is one of the most valuable features. If I want to install something, I can have a test phase to see what sort of impact it will have and whether it will affect production. So I can install it on my lab, make sure it is okay, and if it is, I can deploy it directly to the users or to the staff."
"I find the security of Horizon to be most valuable."
"VMware Horizon View is easily scalable. Its onboarding is easy and comes with flash provisioning features."

Cons

"As the solution is not completely straightforward, you do need some experience to configure and implement it."
"It would be highly beneficial if they could offer a version that is entirely on-premises, eliminating the need for cloud connection except for data access."
"The solution’s pricing could be improved."
"The solution can be made faster and it should improve performance wise."
"Lacks sufficiently robust audio redirections."
"The initial setup was not difficult but there is room for improvement."

"I would love to see so they can actually allow the use of Linux, from a hosting environment as well as from a VDI client environment."
"The initial setup is a little complicated."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Nutanix Frame is a very expensive solution."
"It is a cost-effective option with comparable functionality to competitors."
"The pricing of the solution is very good."
"The licensing is based on the number of users of the solution."
"The pricing can be relatively competitive, but sometimes you have to go back to VMware and ask for additional discounts. You can make it competitive If you're prepared to put in the work. The list prices and standard discounts may not be competitive, but if you push hard enough, you can get the price to where you need it to be."
"The VMware Horizon 7 license is for three months. We are in the testing stage, we are still evaluating the product. We are sure now that we need to buy a license for the production environment."
"At present, they provide decent pricing in terms of bundled licenses."
"VMware Horizon is expensive and I would rate it an eight out of ten."
"The solution is expensive."
"Customers pay a licensing fee."
