Streamlined container deployments have reduced manual setup and now accelerate our delivery
ECS-Optimized Amazon Linux Support by SupportedImages can be improved in several ways. We can have better documentation such as step-by-step guides for cluster setup, scaling integration, and troubleshooting playbooks. There are some areas where monitoring setup is mostly manual, which could benefit from pre-installed and pre-configured CloudWatch agent and container insights. Additionally, AMI updates require manual tracking and rollout. AWS sends notifications for new AMI releases, but if that could be automated by AWS, it would help a lot. Regarding needed improvements for ECS-Optimized Amazon Linux Support by SupportedImages, it is still fine regarding security and support, with not much that needs to be improved. However, limited visibility into what patches are included in each AMI release could improve detailed security information such as patch timelines and severity levels. Faster patch delivery would also help with turnaround for critical vulnerabilities and zero-day patches. With security hardening, improvements could include kernel settings and file integrity monitoring.

Long-term server platform has supported secure banking operations and simplified virtualization
Oracle Solaris is a very good operating system. Most of the time, we do not need to change or replace any configuration. If at any point in time we need to change something, it is really simple and a user-friendly environment. Although it is a CLI, Oracle introduced a GUI environment with Solaris 11.5. Currently, 11.5 has the operating system GUI as well as the CLI. The technical persons working on the operating system most of the time prefer to work on the CLI. It is actually really good and easy to use. As it is a server-level operating system, most of the time you do not need any extra features in the operating system because you are not using the operating system on home machines, desktops, or laptop machines. The extra features are not needed if we are talking about the enterprise level or an official operating system.

"It's scalable, it's stable, you have service for it, and if you have a problem, you call and there will be somebody coming and helping you with it."

Its installation should also be easier. Solaris also needs specific hardware to work well, which is another reason why we are moving to Linux. It should be more flexible in terms of hardware. It should have better integration with other hardware platforms."
"When we switch over to Solaris it was not easy because we had some troubles with the performance. Solaris is from Oracle and you would expect that it would run flawlessly, but we had some issues in sizing the previous Linux environment to the Solaris environment."
"The primary drawback with this product is the lack of version updates."
"I will not recommend Solaris because of the attitude of Oracle, what we have experienced in the database, how they handle licenses, and legally."
"More monitoring tools could be included in the product."
