A great addition to our security monitoring system
We haven't to this point had to scale very large, we want to continue to evolve, but it's a slow process for us. From what I've used so far, and my reading on it, I don't think we're going to have any problems scaling to really whatever size we need.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"There's a whole spectrum of features on the solution that users can take advantage of, and it's a very robust product."
"The security aspects in general have been very useful to use."
"This is a USM, so being able to get all the features under one roof makes it a good product with good new features."
"Customer service is excellent, very responsive, and they know their product."
"Asset discovery and vulnerability scanner are good features. The integration between this solution and OTX, which is an AlienVault platform for Open Threat Exchange, is also a valuable feature. It is also quick and easy to deploy, so you can quickly engage with a customer's environment."
"AlienVault gave our organization a centralized tool to manage our security with its intrusion detection, asset management, vulnerability assessments, along with all of its other features, it has become an invaluable asset for our small organization."
"I would encourage others to go with this solution because it is easy to deploy, and it provides good tools to know more about your network and the traffic on it."
"The most valuable feature is vulnerability management because it gives you insight into your environment to know what systems need to be updated or patched."
"Customer service was very responsive and support was excellent."
"Any unusual behaviour, we can monitor. We have alerts set up to be sent when we receive signs of any unusual behaviour."

Cons

"The dashboard is not user-friendly. The solution, in general, isn't great from a user's perspective."
"At some level, the documentation, the information as far as the components, it's sometimes a little difficult to find the information necessary to implement aspects."
"I've been told that AlienVault doesn't have a full version of NES running in there, but I'm not sure if that's accurate or if my engineer made it that way. I'm not sure he was completely honest either because we had NES in the environment before. Those tools could be improved because AlienVault is a SIEM, and it added all these other features."
"It can still be difficult to feed products that are not supported out-of-the-box."
"AlienVault needs to continue to integrate with other third-party technologies that clients want to have monitored."
"The other thing is the agent is OSSEC. They needed to create its own agent to help to find threats on the devices that it happens to be installed."
"More complimentary training needs to be done for use with this tool. If you get into a bind, then it will cost you."
"The Log Management and configuration of email notifications should be user-friendly."
"In the future, I would like to see all these features of the solution working properly."
"Pay attention to false-positive event automatic correlations."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It wasn't cheap, but it was cost-effective compared to many of the other solutions."
"Use the AlienVault team. They are helpful and the documentation that they provide is second to none."
"We pay around $12,000 a year including storage."
"The ROI is quite good."
"AlienVault is certainly not nearly as expensive as Splunk or QRadar. It's decently priced, but I don't have the exact figure."
"AlienVault is flexible on their pricing for unlimited licenses."
"The vulnerability management solution is worse than buying a Nessus Professional license."
"It's very reasonably priced. It was one of the lowest among the ones I looked at. Licensing is pretty flexible. They can do a two-year or a three-year, even a one-year, perhaps."
"Pricing is very competitive with other products and you get much more functionality from AlienVault."
