There are improvements needed for Elastic Stack. It is mostly based on Lucene, and the heart of Elastic Stack is Lucene, which has some limitations. Anything built on top of Lucene often feels an add-on, and that includes vector databases. Elastic Stack can store vector embeddings as well and perform AI and machine learning tasks out of the box without excessive configuration. The main improvements involve increasing speed and compression capabilities; I have seen databases that claim to achieve significantly better compression. While Elastic Stack can manage vast amounts of data, if the mapping is not specified correctly, the indexing time can be slow, especially with many events per second. Improper mapping usually means that every document received gets indexed for all fields, which is not desired. Elastic consultants typically optimize this, but out of the box, as data volume increases, scaling becomes necessary. They are working on these improvements in new versions.

Has fulfilled regulatory requirements through centralized log management
The alerting capabilities in ManageEngine Log360 needed work for creating alarms for the cases where alarms were needed and for prioritizing the alarms for criticality. ManageEngine Log360 uses PostgreSQL as its own database but does not automatically parse and allow creation of alarms the way it does in MS SQL. There is less support in PostgreSQL than in MS SQL. The ability to create alarms based on parsed data in the same way MS SQL does would have been beneficial and would have saved considerable time. On the PostgreSQL side, it was not parsing much, which required a lot of manual work. This support is needed, and I am sure many companies need this support on PostgreSQL. MS SQL features that were missing in ManageEngine Log360 that should be included in the future are those that automatically parse an MS SQL database and provide options for setting alarms. On the PostgreSQL side, this is not the same. At minimum, PostgreSQL support should reach the MS SQL level of features and support that ManageEngine Log360 presents.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The scripting model in Elastic Stack allows me to query logs and then put the data into Grafana."
"The solution's technical support is good...Elastic Stack offers good value for value for money based on the product's features and what they offer."
"I have experienced a return on investment from the use of the solution."
"We can group a lot of alarms into one automation alarm supervision. The alarm supervision allows us to put the alarm under the same. It's quite helpful for us. We used that to suppress our alarms. Elastic already provides the agent. It is easy to integrate Elastic Stack with other devices and vendors."
"The biggest strength of Elastic Stack is its brilliant archiving capabilities."
"I think the ecosystem is well supported, and for logs, it was faster compared to our previous previous log management."
"The machine learning capabilities are valuable."
"The only beneficial aspect of Elastic Stack is that it's open source."
"We have to have these types of tools in place for protecting our network and our data, and it does a good job in that aspect."
"It is a very nice solution and the graphics interface speaks a lot to that."
"My main objective for using ManageEngine Log360 is its powerful and real-time capabilities for managing security and other tasks efficiently."
"The deployment is quite simple and pretty straightforward."
"The most valuable feature is that this solution is more secure than others, and there are more applications and features as well."
"ManageEngine Log360 could integrate with all systems, making it possible to integrate everything to the central location, which made it a useful and necessary tool."
"You can have all of the logs from servers to network and it gets sent out to the correct owners. This is very helpful."
"It basically helps us. We have to stay in compliance with certain issues with some of our customers. We have to have these types of tools in place for protecting our network and our data. We're in the aerospace industry, so we have a lot of defense contracts. So, all those guys will make sure that we're protecting their information, and it does a good job in that aspect."

Cons

"While Elastic Stack can manage vast amounts of data, if the mapping is not specified correctly, the indexing time can be slow, especially with many events per second."
"Improving integration capabilities, especially with authentication systems, firewalls, and security controls, is a crucial area for improvement in Elastic Stack. Additionally, enhancing functionality to handle large Yara queries more efficiently would be beneficial, as many EDR solutions can run such queries faster than Elastic Stack's current limitations."
"Agent deployment is a little tough in the on-premise version."
"The solution is expensive, particularly the training and certification. If customers want to increase their use of Elastic Stack, they should consider reducing the cost of certification and training."
"There could be better documentation."
"Elastic Stack's search capabilities can be challenging, especially when searching for precise data from past years, such as two or ten years ago. Its indexing performance for exact data retrieval may decrease as the data volume grows. Therefore, I believe there is room for improvement in the product's search functionality. It needs to improve its pricing as well."
"Elastic Stack should be more simplified with ready-to-use widgets. Also, incorporating AI capabilities is essential as monitoring and observability tools are now adding AI features."
"Improvements are needed in the solution in areas like SOAR and TIP, where there are certain shortcomings."
"ManageEngine Log360 could provide more in-depth insights, particularly in reporting."
"There is room for improvement, especially in the reporting aspect. The reports are not as good as those in Splunk."
"With ManageEngine, you need to actually have an idea of what you want to do with the information you're looking at. It doesn't drive you in the direction — that's a con."
"The solution lacks some features when compared to other products."
"The on-premises solution is very slow. When I move to another tab inside Log360 or in the SIEM, even if my system is running on 36 GB and with a high processor, it takes a lot of time to get into the alert page or the search page."
"It takes a little bit of time for Log360 to actually learn your environment."
"On the logging system, there's a local on-client side that is encrypted, and there's one that is not encrypted. It is only for diagnostical purposes. However, both being encrypted would be very valuable for some audits."
"We are always facing more difficulties right now because we are learning."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate the solution's pricing a six out of ten."
"If I compare Elastic Stack to the other products in the market, I would say that the tool is available at a competitive price."
"It depends on the specifics, but generally, Elastic is economical for certain use cases."
"I used the open-source version of Elastic Stack, because of which I did not have to pay anything."
"The product is expensive."
"We are using the open-source community version of the product."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"Ultimately, the pricing depends upon the capacity planning that the enterprise architect does."
"My client has a yearly license. I think the cost is not expensive compared to that of other SIEMs, given the service it is providing."
"Affordable pricing is provided by the solution."
"There is a cost for each feature used."
"Its pricing is definitely huge compared to some of the other SIEMs. Its price should be improved."
"ManageEngine Log360 is expensive compared to other products."
