Supports secure remote authentication and provides comprehensive user activity tracking
The most important feature is the security capability because it provides a substantial amount of security for admin-related activities. Fortinet FortiAuthenticator can be used from anywhere in the world, and the authenticator services function globally. This global accessibility is one of the critical advantages, particularly since admin features are critical and security is a real concern. With Fortinet FortiAuthenticator, secure usage of firewall services and related functions is achieved. A complete log of all users who access the authenticator setup is maintained. Monthly logs are reviewed to check for any unnoticed activities. Each authenticated user's complete activity history is recorded. This logging capability allows for providing access to more admin users while ensuring security is not compromised and all users can be monitored.

Good authentication options, but the setup can be complex and the user interface should be improved
Many of the users with licenses are not getting their IPs all of the time. It seems that the licenses are not active on the user end. There are multiple errors. At times, when the user is trying to scan and activate the license, it comes up with an error code. The user interface could be improved. The setup could be simplified. The mobile app that is available for Digipass does not scan the QR code to activate the license. Users would like to see more functions and creation options for the user base and the UI console. They are not getting all of the features that are available on the UI Console. The features are the same but they are not able to configure them.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The technical support for FortiAuthenticator is excellent."
"I am really impressed by the technical support because they were very helpful; once we logged our complaint, we received an answer from them in no time, and they quickly fixed our issue."
"The solution is very easy to manage."
"The integration into tools, including CI/CD pipelines, is easy and handy."
"The tool's most valuable features are push notifications and integration with the FortiGate firewall. Push notifications provide an instant acceptance mechanism. When customers try to access SSL VPN, the solution sends a push notification to their mobile phone, and they can easily approve the access. The integration with FortiGate firewall is very easy if our customers use FortiGate for their firewall."
"The initial setup is so easy and there is no problem in the implementation."
"The most important feature is the security capability because it provides a substantial amount of security for admin-related activities."
"FortiAuthenticator is easy to use."
"OneSpan Digipass is very useful, easy to use and work with."
"OneSpan Digipass is very useful, easy to use and work with."

Cons

"A better integration with other vendors."
"Improvements in the product could start from the dashboard, overall customization, and configuration."
"I would like to see more support from Fortinet with tech support people who have as much expertise on the authenticator as they do on their firewalls."
"I have had stability issues with FortiAuthenticator."
"The only way the solution could be improved is if it were cheaper."
"The one thing they used to include was the SMS gateway from the ISP; Fortinet used to sell that but they don't anymore and I think it would be helpful for end-users if they brought it back."
"The technical support is mid-range; it's not your wow kind of support, and they're not really there when it comes to support."
"If you want some other FortiAuthenticator from one site to another site, you should have requirements, but really if you have authentication and directory or another solution, you should change the password of the authenticator between the solution and the directory and other things. So transfer of data and other information should be simpler."
"Many of the users with licenses are not getting their IPs all of the time. It seems that the licenses are not active on the user end."
"At times, when the user is trying to scan and activate the license, it comes up with an error code."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's not expensive."
"I rate the product price as two or three on a one-to-ten scale, where one is expensive, and ten is cheap."
"The platform provides a user-based pricing model rather than a subscription pricing model."
"It is usually cheap. Without a license, you can use some basic features. You can buy a 20-year license and implement the solution once."
"You can pay as you go with them. You purchase a base license and add to it as needed."
"I would rate the pricing a four out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive. It is not that costly. It is cheap, easy to manage, easy to install, and easy to configure."
"The pricing is fair."
"The product could be more competitively priced."
