Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Remote access has become seamless and secure while deployment remains simple for our users
Performance could be improved today. People are now moving toward SASE, which stands for Secure Access, Secure Edge Solution. Fortinet also has that offering, which would be easier since it operates through the cloud, acting as a first line of defense. When the user connects to the internet, they connect to the cloud first for posture assessment and monitoring before connecting to the outside world. The impact is significant because nowadays people are adopting SASE. During COVID time, many users were trying to connect back to their office, causing the performance or CPU utilization of the firewall to increase tremendously, which slowed down performance. I have not worked with endpoint telemetry in Fortinet FortiClient that could have been helpful for threat mitigation.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The anti-exploit is impenetrable. We chose Traps because it is the only product that we were not able to get anything past."
"One of the things that I enjoy the most is using policy extensions. It's like having host firewalls to control USB connections. I think it's a wonderful tool to restrict use when connecting to our computers. Another important tool is Home Insights. That is an add-on to the Cortex solution. I like that because we can see all the vulnerabilities in the environment and control what assets are connected to our network."
"What I like about Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is that it is a comprehensive solution that contains everything the organization may need when using endpoints."
"We can use Cortex XDR to get the entire graph of the incidents from source to destination, and we can take remedial action."
"The main benefit of using Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks while employing Palo Alto Firewall at the internet edge is that it improves security on our endpoint devices, integrating seamlessly with Palo Alto Firewalls to deliver comprehensive network, analyst, and security details all in a single dashboard, which allows us to manage everything from our network devices."
"We use it for malicious connections from malicious websites, to identify payloads that might be inside the traffic, to identify malicious processes or bugs that are running on the network, and any activities that tend to lead to data infiltration."
"Cortex XDR's most valuable feature is its intelligence-based dashboards."
"Its ability to react to cyber data attacks is awesome. That is pretty much the use of it. What blows your mind is the ability to access your assets remotely and see what is actually going on with them. You can not only see them in a console. You can also react very rapidly to your assets that are compromised."
"The VPN capabilities are good, it's very stable, it can scale well, and technical support has been helpful."
"The stability of the connection is great, the performance is also great, and I don't see any big improvements that are necessary."
"What I find valuable in FortiClient is its patch management capabilities, allowing remote updates efficiently."
"I find it very easy to configure and also very stable."
"A valuable feature of FortiClient is that we can connect from anywhere if we have Fortinet access."
"For one looking for a secure virtual private network that maintains connectivity and has future development for next generations of VPN, the solution is a good place to start."
"It's easy to use, easy to deploy, and I have more visibility over my network that shows which users are connected to the firewalls, which users are connected to the network, and what they're accessing."
"The EMS server gives us good control and central management."
"The feature we found most valuable is the AI functionality for maintaining endpoint security, which is very powerful and has been useful over the last year."
"It is an easy-to-use and easy-to-configure product."
"Speed"
"Webroot Business Endpoint Protection is very scalable."
"I haven't observed any of the instabilities in the solution. It is a stable solution."
"The initial setup was straightforward. It took five minutes. I installed the solution myself."
"I rate the initial setup phase a ten on a scale of one to ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy."
"The most valuable aspect of the solution is the fact that it is a low profile environment as far as overhead on the machines."

Cons

"It is not easy to sell Cortex XDR, not because it isn't a good tool. Its marketing needs to be improved."
"The GUI could be improved."
"Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth."
"Limited remote connection."
"Cortex XDR could improve its sales support team, including better commission structures and referral programs."
"The dashboard is the area that needs to improve so that we can have the ability to drill down without having to go elsewhere to verify results."
"When it comes to core analysis, and security analysis, Cortex needs to provide more information."
"There is a severe gap in functionality between Windows, Linux, and Mac versions. For example all folder restriction settings are Windows only. Traps 5.0+ does not have SAML / LDAP integration."
"FortiClient has compatibility issues between different versions, for example, the VPN doesn't work well between FortiClient 6.4 and FortiGate."
"Everybody else is doing AI, machine learning, self-healing, next-generation features. It needs more next-generation features. Everybody else is doing AI, machine learning, self-healing, next-generation features. It needs more next-generation features."
"I haven't found that the solution does anything amazing; there is nothing special about it."
"Sometimes there are issues when we are trying to connect. The error doesn't give us the proper feedback."
"It has a horrible performance. It is one of the most unstable VPNs I have ever used."
"Initially, the support was very poor. It is getting better, but they should continue to improve this."
"The solution's access control could be improved."
"The product's performance and pricing could be better."
"Tech support needs to be improved. If we have an issue, and we don't have an issue very often, trying to get support's attention is a really difficult endeavor."
"I believe that Webroot Business Endpoint Protection should offer a more modern UI."
"There needs to be more advanced analytics. It would make it a more powerful antivirus solution within the marketplace."
"Reporting system could be improved."
"Technical support is not the best. It's hard to get a hold of them if we need help. It's something that definitely needs improvement."
"The console spins up relatively slowly, and some of the configuration items are obscure (e.g., reporting back one time per day is a default setting) and need to be tweaked."
"The platform is mostly stable, however there are hiccups with the cloud from time-to-time that impact the ability to get to the portal."
"I think the one bad point about this product is that we did not find a way for Webroot to generate reports or schedule automatic reports to be sent to clients."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is high for the license and in general."
"It's way too expensive, but security is expensive. You pay for your licensing, and then you pay for someone to monitor the stuff."
"It's about $55 per license on a yearly basis."
"The price of the solution could be reduced. I have customers that have voiced that the solution is good for the value but if I want to sell more of the solution the price reduction would help."
"If one wishes to work with another team or large number of users at a future point, he must purchase a license for them."
"The pricing is a little high. It is per user per year."
"When we first bought it, it was a bit expensive, but it was worth it. The licensing was straightforward."
"Its pricing is kind of in line with its competitors and everybody else out there."
"The solution is not expensive. We need more discounted rates in Pakistan. The price of the solution could be reduced to be more affordable for the solution."
"It is not that expensive. It was within the range. A dollar per user per month is nothing."
"Fortinet FortiClient comes free with the purchase of the FortiGate solution. There is a license required for this solution. You later can upgrade from the free version which will allow more endpoints. The cost of the license subscription is based on how many endpoints you require."
"Its pricing is good. One thing that has always attracted us to the Fortinet range of products is that their pricing is very competitive. Our particular licensing is on a yearly basis. However, as part of this project, we did pre-purchase three years of maintenance and support at a fairly significant discount."
"Fortinet requires you to buy a lot of product in order for you to have proper protection."
"Pricing is an area that I would like to see improved, as it could be lower."
"The pricing is a six out of ten."
"It is a yearly subscription license. I don't see a problem with the pricing. Resellers add their markup and then give it to us, but I don't see that as a major challenge. It is fine."
"Get a trial, then a multi-year license."
"I can't recall the exact pricing, but I believe there is a monthly fee of $20-30 per user."
"Webroot is less expensive than SentinelOne."
"We are on an annual subscription for the use of Webroot Business Endpoint Protection."
"It is relatively cheap."
"Webroot Business Endpoint Protection is not too expensive. My licenses cost me between $300 and $400. It is really good price wise."
"From a pricing standpoint, I would rate it a four out of five."
"If you purchase for clients, then you are the managing billing entity. It's better to either get a monthly subscription check from your clients, or to prepay for the year (so as to not keep cash in reserve to pay the bill each month) IMHO."
