A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

While we have sold other Forcepoint products, percentage-wise, DLP is the highest one. I mostly deal with DLP because in this part of India, DLP is more in demand for Forcepoint. Trellix has DLP and an IPS, which is performing well. In India, we see mostly two companies in IPS, which are Trend Micro and Trellix. Trellix does have an Intrusion Prevention System, similar to an IDPS. Technology is something that needs to keep improving and upgrading. As far as DLP is concerned, I have always said that Forcepoint DLP is better than Trellix. Some of my customers are working with Forcepoint and Trellix. I provided this review a rating of eight.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Initial setup is straightforward. There weren't too many issues with setting it up. It takes one hour or so."
"The IPsec tunnels are very easily created, and quite interoperable with devices from other vendors."
"Fortinet FortiGate's reliability is valuable."
"Web filtering is the most useful feature."
"I like Fortinet's cloud management. It allows me to manage all my devices in different branches for three cloud accounts. Even though I use on-prem devices, I can manage everything on the cloud."
"Fortinet FortiGate IPS is a very good firewall; we don't have any complaints, it is doing its job correctly."
"Overall, it’s a good solution, and I would recommend it to others."
"Fortinet has got great firewalls; they do everything, from FortiTokens for two-factor to IPsec VPNs and SSL VPNs, with a great GUI that makes it easy to use while the support is great."
"My experience with Forcepoint DLP is that it is a good product, and customer feedback has always been positive."

Cons

"The solution isn't exactly scalable, especially when it comes to the public cloud environment."
"One of the problems I was having was with user mapping, and it is an issue for which I have escalated tickets with Fortinet support."
"The performance and speed are aspects of the solution that could always be improved upon."
"The reports are very basic."
"Its performance can be better. We have had performance issues in the past, but we sometimes tend to find that it is more related to what we do in our network than anything else. It is quite a good product, and there isn't much to improve."
"I mostly do administration, and I found Cisco to be the hardest major firewall manufacturer to deal with, with Fortinet FortiGate being the second hardest for me."
"I think Fortinet FortiGate is stable because previously it had a hiccup around a bug within the authentication VPN due to the firmware, but after updating, it's easier to control."
"I would like to see more advanced developments of a wireless controller in the future."
"Trellix Intrusion Prevention System - Virtual needs to be more focused on the product line and should consider the current scenario of threats to provide better solutions for handling those threats frequently."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is cheaper and more competitive compared to other options. For example, when comparing Palo Alto products to others, Palo Alto tends to be more expensive. If you compare Cisco's platform, including Cisco Meraki, with Fortinet products, you'll notice that Cisco's offerings are generally higher priced than Fortinet's firewall solutions."
"Their licensing costs are annual. The UTM feature license along with their support is called FortiCare. We include that as a part of the annual maintenance cost. Palo Alto or Juniper also have an annual subscription charge for UTM. Price, of course, can always be more competitive, but it is not the most expensive product. The price-performance ratio is quite high for FortiGate."
"Fortinet bundles FortiGate with other products and because of this, the price is a little expensive to some SMB enterprises."
"The solution is more expensive than Sophos. It could be cheaper. The licensing is on a yearly basis. We have had it for about three years. We must only pay extra for the license, additional requirements, and the hardware box."
"Its pricing is good. It's average or normal as compared to Palo Alto and Check Point firewalls."
"It's very affordable."
"The price of FortiGate is reasonable as I plan to buy new switches. The initial gadgets are already booted, and the pricing seems normal on the market. As for additional costs, I haven't subscribed to many extra features, so I'm only using what I need. Last year, I renewed the support for three years, which can sometimes be expensive but depends on the security benefits and how it helps us."
"FortiGate Next Generation Firewall is an expensive solution with a yearly subscription."

Sophos UTM vs. Fortinet FortiGate
I have used both Sophos and Fortinet products in production and I have found the Sophos UTM appliances (hardware and virtual) to be a better fit most of the time -- with a few caveats which I will touch on below. In both instances, the transition from TMG will be mostly straightforward. The main…
