Simple to use, but the web interface needs to be improved
Imagine that you have two customers writing data to your appliance. You have two repositories, each one for each customer. If you need to know the real space used for each of them, you can't. Using the graphics and data that the appliance gives to you you are able to visualize how much space it is used on the system, as a global. There're other solutions that actually are able to do so. That's the most important thing that I miss. On another hand, I would like to see the web platform improved because it is a little bit confusing. There are options behind more and more options. If you try to get data about the performance, or research space, then it is confusing. Basically, anything to make things more clear for the user would be an improvement. And, as important as the first thing I said, technical support needs to be improved, at least in Spain.

Collaborate effectively with partners and benefit from robust data management capabilities
The functions of HPE StoreOnce that I find most valuable are its deduplication and replication options. These features save data and reduce the size of data significantly. If the actual size for backup data is 100 terabytes, using StoreOnce, it will be around less than 10% of the original size due to the 1 to 10 deduplication ratio. So, compression and replication are critical features I appreciate. Additionally, adaptive backup and restore capabilities of HPE StoreOnce are indeed very helpful functions. As I know from my technical team, the process is very easy for end users because the GUI and user experience with StoreOnce are straightforward. They can restore their backups at any time. An important feature of StoreOnce is that they can reserve an amount of storage capacity as protected capacity for a limited time, safeguarding their data against intrusion and other interactions. Based on feedback from customers, StoreOnce is regarded as a highly useful solution for backup. I am satisfied with the security aspects of HPE StoreOnce, but it's crucial for any company to maintain a multi-layer security approach. Starting with a firewall is essential for maintaining their environment. Additionally, security features on StoreOnce are useful. I believe that no company should rely solely on one layer of security; they should adopt a multi-layer security strategy that begins at the network level and extends to their internal solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of this solution is its simplicity."
"Based on customer feedback, I rate it highly as one of the most stable products in the backup and archiving line compared to offerings like Data Domain or from Huawei and Lenovo."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is that the tool provides good value for somebody who needs an affordable and reliable storage solution."
"I like the tool’s deduplication feature. We get a ratio of 9:1 for deduplication. The product is also Linux based. Last year, our organization faced some virus attacks. However, the backup was safe because of the product being a Linux version. HPE StoreOnce is a secure product."
"It is a very scalable solution."
"The solution is stable."
"The solution's licensing policy is more practical and not confusing."
"It results in more efficient storage utilization, cutting capital expenditure in half."
"Catalyst backup is used to back up Oracle databases, and provides very good throughput during backups."

Cons

"Technical support needs to be improved."
"We would like to see some improvements in the Veeam Backup & Replication integration. It's good, but it has a lot of room to improve. In particular around the inability to easily move data between StoreOnce appliances."
"The web interface, ease of use, and GUI all need to be improved."
"While the solution does everything expected, it would be beneficial if AI could be integrated for optimization and monitoring."
"The solution must provide backup options for smaller capacities."
"The appliance doesn't have the global deduplication, it has StoreOnce deduplication. It does not deduplicate across the appliance, it will deduplicate in one particular store. With the global deduplication, I could store more data."
"In terms of areas for improvement, I believe HPE StoreOnce could learn from competitors like Dell's Data Domain and ExtraHop in refining its architecture."
"HPE StoreOnce needs to provide a SaaS solution by offering high-density disks."
"The cost is at the forefront of everyone's mind."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The cost of HPE StoreOnce is very expensive."
"The price puts me off. It's definitely on the high side."
"The licensing schemes could improve in HPE StoreOnce and the price is high. They should reduce the price."
"The product's pricing is medium."
"The licensing costs is capacity-based and come bundled with support."
"With the same capacity of Data Domain and ExaGrid, which is 80 terabytes, HPE is the cheapest one."
"There are costs for additional storage and space."
"We have got a perpetual license, and we have access to all the features. If you are using cloud banks, you can store the internal data in HPE Cloud if needed. You can offload the data to the HPE Cloud. It is a licensed product. We have got around 10 TB of cloud bank storage with a one-time payment. We specifically took 10 TB for very critical offsite backups. We can also increase it in blocks if needed."

What do you like most about HPE StoreOnce?
I think StoreOnce's deduplication technology is crucial for cost efficiency and faster recovery, especially for backup and data protection purposes.
What needs improvement with HPE StoreOnce?
To improve HPE StoreOnce, I think if HPE generates new models with lower capacities than 80 terabytes, it would be beneficial for the market. We face a significant issue with the current offerings....
