CI/CD workflows have become streamlined and AI support has improved collaborative development
We are using GitHub because it is open-source software, which is the most valuable solution for us. The open source and community support are very good. We are always up-to-date with the community, and integration difficulty is very low. If you integrate any CI/CD solutions on GitHub, it's very easy. We started using GitHub about three months ago with AI integration. For our deployments, some developers can be very shy about asking for descriptions on their commits. We are using AI support for comments and deployment management, which is beautiful. We are not using the GitHub API for automating workflows in our projects. I give GitHub a five-star rating for the review capabilities. I also give GitHub five stars for integration with third-party applications. There is a lot of integration available on GitHub. If you want to integrate something, even if it could be integrated before GitHub, you can make your code and integrate your own in-house applications. It's a very easy and powerful aspect of GitHub.

Configuration management features improve workflow but require a steep learning curve
I need to work more with Helix Core to identify specific areas for improvement. However, it has an extensive feature set that leads to a steep learning curve, where users need to learn quite a bit of features to work with it effectively. While its customization is not an issue, the GUI might not appeal to everyone.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"GitHub Actions, specifically in the DevOps field, have been extremely valuable."
"GitHub's source code management is top-notch. It's easy to inspect changes and visualize code and differences. Their action system is comprehensive in terms of making changes and automation."
"The deployment is fast since we just have to run the script, and once it's done, it takes a few minutes."
"The product's initial setup phase is easy but it is always good to connect with GitHub's team that manages APIs."
"The ease of the planning board feature in GitHub is very valuable."
"GitHub allows us the option to push files from a non-UA method or directly upload files from the UA. You can integrate GitHub with Jenkins to do CI/CD."
"Any complex banking can be handled very easily in GitHub. It allows us to integrate with tools like Grid, where we can merge and resolve conflicts without any hassle."
"All the features are valuable, but the most important feature is that GitHub has advanced security. The second important feature is the capability to create custom GitHub actions and the capability to deploy in different types of architectural infrastructures, such as hybrid, private, or public."
"I find the configuration management features of Helix Core particularly valuable."
"The customer service and support are excellent."

Cons

"As of now, if I would like to learn about GitHub or its features, I would have to look on YouTube. It would be nice if they were able to send out a newsletter with explanations of new features that they are offering and what features are available."
"The documentation needs to be more concise and easier for developers to understand."
"The project management sector really needs some improvement for GitHub. I don't know if GitHub made sense for me as a project manager."
"The ticketing system is not working."
"There could be more integration into Azure."
"I think one area where GitHub could improve is its search and navigation functionality within repositories. For example, we use IDEs like IntelliJ or Visual Studio Code when developing code. These IDEs allow us to easily navigate from one piece of code to another file where a method is being called. It would be really helpful if the solution could add this navigation feature."
"The support team needs to have a well-defined SLA model since it is an area where the tool currently has some shortcomings."
"GitHub needs to improve its UI."
"However, it has an extensive feature set that leads to a steep learning curve, where users need to learn quite a bit of features to work with it effectively."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's cheaper than Bitbucket."
"My company purchased it. Before, we used to receive the free version, but then they purchased some of the features."
"If I consider the market standards, the product's price is pocket-friendly."
"I use the free version of the tool."
"It’s an open-source solution."
"GitHub is an open-source application. It's free to use."
"If there are only 10 people using a particular repository, then GitHub is free. But if we increase the number of users, we need to pay the normal charge for GitHub."
"The licensing model from GitHub is very clear."
