Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Delivers efficiency and agility with USB control limitations
One area where we lag is that, since we use everything from Heimdal, including XDR and other features, we also use the privilege manager feature called Elevation. What we lack is granular USB control. We have an issue where we can only switch USB on or off. I want to whitelist specific devices in the network, which I currently cannot do.

Behavior analytics has strengthened threat prediction yet still needs to improve overall standing
Regarding the real-time monitoring feature with VMware Carbon Black Endpoint, it is helpful in addressing unseen threats. I find the behavior analysis feature beneficial. I assess VMware Carbon Black Endpoint's machine learning capabilities in detecting unknown threats as fantastic. The behavior and analytics feature employs machine learning, and these are features which make the product and give that distinguishing, differentiating factor. The intelligent threat hunting capabilities have impacted my customers' cybersecurity efforts by giving them the edge to be prepared well in advance. Whenever this feature provides prediction, you know what action to take. You are aware of a possible attack and what kind of attack it may be, so you are much better prepared.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Stability is a primary factor, and then there's the ease of distribution and policy management; Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is very easy to work with, and we're quite happy with them."
"These days it's machine-learning technology and behavior-based analytics features that make us more secure."
"The solution allows us to make investigations. Other XDR solutions also provide similar capabilities but for investigation, Cortex XDR is better."
"The level of security I get for my endpoints and servers is extremely valuable."
"It blocks malicious files, prevents attacks, and doesn't require many updates because it is a very light application."
"The product's initial setup phase is very easy."
"The solution doesn't need a high level of technical training."
"Cortex is the best solution for avoiding security breaches, malware attacks, and other kinds of security issues."
"Heimdal is a very agile and lightweight solution."
"As compared to multiple solutions I have used in the past, Heimdal is a very agile and lightweight solution."
"It is stable and easy to set up."
"The data analysis is the most valuable because of the whitelist database. It is different than standard IDS solutions."
"The Intel fit was very extensive and comprehensive enough."
"The protection of the user machines has been great, for example, if a laptop gets stolen, or an employee gets let go, the product provides us with the ability to actually lock people out of the network and handle remote wipes and stuff like that."
"The solution allows you to override it and manually install an application if you need it to, and it's very good at alerting you to malicious content or unauthorized software."
"I like the historical features, interface, and integration."
"The product's most valuable feature is its ability to be fully integrated with the VMware environment."
"It gives you all of the information in a short and sweet fashion."

Cons

"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks could improve by offering remote management."
"I have seen lagging with Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks. There was one time when we faced a threat actor trying to gain access to our system. When our team utilized the tool, we were all on the same dashboard and we faced a lag issue at that time of around five minutes, which was quite significant."
"There's an overall lack of features."
"Currently, we are monitoring all USB drives and ports but we would like to improve our device control capabilities."
"In general, the price could be more competitive."
"The solution lacks real-time, on-demand antivirus."
"The onboarding process could be better."
"The setup is quite easy. We had appropriate support from the manager. One thing that was missing was the integration part."
"What we lack is granular USB control."
"What we lack is granular USB control. We have an issue where we can only switch USB on or off."
"In the next release, it would help if we can get better control over containers."
"The solution needs expanded endpoint query tools."
"There are many different controls that are needed to be put into place for upgrading that makes it difficult. Having to re-engineer your IT infrastructure to match their software, as opposed to having it integrate and work independently causes difficulties. When there is an update to any software everyone has to be involved."
"Performing a malware scan usually takes a lot of time, more than 24 hours."
"I'm not sure as to the logic of how we've decided to customize it. We've only really used it since February and therefore there may be more to do on that front. That's why it's hard to say if something is missing or if we just aren't utilizing it."
"The UI interface needs improvement. The management needs further work in future versions."
"The pricing could always be a bit better. They could work to make it less expensive."
"The initial setup is complex."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Every customer has to pay for a license because it doesn't work with what you get from a managed services provider."
"Traps pays for itself within the first 16 months of a three-year subscription. This is attributed to OPEX savings, as security teams spent less time trying to identify and isolate malware for analysis as a result of a reduction in malware incidents, false positives, and breach avoidance."
"It is cost-effective compared to similar solutions. It fits for the small businesses through to the big businesses."
"It has a yearly renewal."
"Cortex XDR's pricing is ok."
"The price of the solution could be reduced. I have customers that have voiced that the solution is good for the value but if I want to sell more of the solution the price reduction would help."
"If one wishes to work with another team or large number of users at a future point, he must purchase a license for them."
"It is "expensive" and flexible."
Information not available
"The solution has almost the same price as other different kinds of infrastructures, but it offers a lot of different features."
"It's reasonable in price"
"This is a really expensive product and we pay licensing fees on a yearly basis."
"Price-wise, VMware Carbon Black Endpoint is a highly-priced solution. Regarding the licensing cost of the solution, one needs to opt for an annual subscription."
"We have branches, we have different companies, but we cannot buy less than 100 licenses. This does not make sense to me... It should be more flexible. I can understand their saying, "Okay, to be a customer you need 100," but to add on to that number it should be something very straightforward. If I need to add five, for example, I shouldn't need to add 100."
"The pricing is annually based and operates through another department than mine."
"Carbon Black provides competitive pricing."
"Overall, it was cost-effective too."
