Has integrated solutions and rapid recovery made management smoother and more reliable
There is the latest update from HPE regarding HPE SimpliVity. For virtualization, HPE has to depend on other manufacturers, OEMs such as VMware or Hyper-V. Recently, HPE declared the VM essential virtualization solution. In the future, if HPE integrates HPE SimpliVity with VM essential, that will be a great combination. Functionality-wise, I am totally satisfied with HPE SimpliVity, but for improvement, if HPE integrates its own virtualization solution, this combination and integration will be beneficial because this integration can be configured with the cloud-based system. A VM can be uploaded to the cloud from this, which will be advantageous for backup to other sites.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The replication technology can move data faster than EMC MirrorView and requires less bandwidth. The Storage Virtualization technology is the most mature in the market, outside of IBM’s Storwize (which has a lot of compatibility issues, and EMC’s very expensive VPLEX solution); and it works."
"The most valuable feature is the interconnectivity, which allows me to use the system across my data centers and makes it easy to connect to other storage platforms."
"This solution allowed us to move from using standalone systems to having all our data center management in one place."
"In our implementations, HDS Storage Virtualization has helped in migrating data with the least amount of downtime, compared to other storage technologies."
"SimpliVity is as scalable as all the other solutions."
"The most valuable features of this solution are the backup rate and the backup transfer; you don't have to purchase any other licenses other than Microsoft or for VMware, everything is included in your box, and you can move one TB of VM data in one minute, which is one of SimpliVity's benefits."
"My day-to-day experiences are better now that my backups are no longer running into production."
"It has been performing well. It was more than what we expected."
"As a small IT shop we spend less time managing our VMware infrastructure which gives us more time to focus on the front end of our business."
"SimpliVity meets all of our requirements and also address other future requirements that were not in the scope of the primary storage project."
"It makes it easy for our customers to manage all virtual machines and different workloads and be agile."
"The main reason customers choose this solution is the fast backup and recovery capabilities."

Cons

"HDS reaches a ceiling depending on model. The G200 cannot transition to G400, the G400 can transition to G600 but cannot transition to G800, which is the top-end model."
"An area for improvement would be technical support."
"We prefer solutions other than HDS due to better post sales support, updates, ease of use, flexibility, etc."
"An area for improvement would be technical support. In the next release, I would like to see more features added to make this a more complete solution."
"An update to its technology would be good. The G Series has been around for more than five years and HDS seriously needs to ramp up, since the competition has better performance at a lower cost with better features and functionalities. For example, it needs redirect on write Snapshot, preconfigured storage tiering with better IOPS, built-in deduplication technology on hybrid disk, etc."
"The solution's price could be lower, but it holds good value for the money. The VMware licensing costs have skyrocketed since Broadcom's takeover."
"Its scalability can be improved. When we put a lot of nodes, sometimes, its performance decreases."
"Speed in catching up with VMware ESXi releases could also be slightly improved."
"High availability for large production environments needs to be offered."
"I have a free project with SimpliVity deployment in the next three months. What can be improved is that in one or two of these projects, I need a cloud backup for the infrastructure and data. As for the infrastructure of the product as it relates to customer size, it is not very good at this moment in Peru. I need a solution for the cloud. In Peru, it's a three or four solution provider for cloud services."
"SimpliVity's data management could be better. Nutanix's interface is a bit more user-friendly."
"Integration with external solutions outside the HPE posed challenges."
"As for the infrastructure of the product as it relates to customer size, it is not very good at this moment in Peru."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The price of the solution is reasonable. We have purchased a five-year license with all the support and upgrades."
"Scaling isn't cheap"
"For the VMware licensing, it is approximately $10,000 a year."
"ESXi licensing is a big part of initial investment if you do not already have that covered."
"Customers always complain that SimpliVity is a little bit higher in price point as compared to other solutions available in the market."
"For three years, it is $60,000 for three nodes. It is quite pricey."
"It is not expensive. We bought its license for two years. For support, we pay yearly."
"The hardware is expensive. For the same price, Cisco can provide more hardware specifications for us."
