Collaborate effectively with partners and benefit from robust data management capabilities
The functions of HPE StoreOnce that I find most valuable are its deduplication and replication options. These features save data and reduce the size of data significantly. If the actual size for backup data is 100 terabytes, using StoreOnce, it will be around less than 10% of the original size due to the 1 to 10 deduplication ratio. So, compression and replication are critical features I appreciate. Additionally, adaptive backup and restore capabilities of HPE StoreOnce are indeed very helpful functions. As I know from my technical team, the process is very easy for end users because the GUI and user experience with StoreOnce are straightforward. They can restore their backups at any time. An important feature of StoreOnce is that they can reserve an amount of storage capacity as protected capacity for a limited time, safeguarding their data against intrusion and other interactions. Based on feedback from customers, StoreOnce is regarded as a highly useful solution for backup. I am satisfied with the security aspects of HPE StoreOnce, but it's crucial for any company to maintain a multi-layer security approach. Starting with a firewall is essential for maintaining their environment. Additionally, security features on StoreOnce are useful. I believe that no company should rely solely on one layer of security; they should adopt a multi-layer security strategy that begins at the network level and extends to their internal solutions.

Custom alerts and rich performance metrics have improved server monitoring and storage planning
We use customizable alerts extensively with different services, because the exchange services are different from Active Directory or DNS or anything else. We have customizable alerts for each service. I do not use the historical data trends that predict future storage needs. Perhaps some of my colleagues use it, but I do not. I would like to see a focus on broadcast services in the future to make it better. Broadcast services, specifically TV broadcast services, would be valuable to us because we come from a broadcast technology background and would appreciate having some features related to that. I would rate this review as an eight out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"HPE StoreOnce has high performance."
"Most important criteria to look for includes: Price, features, functionality, and ease of use; definitely look at this solution as a viable option as it is cost effective and reliable."
"VTL with deduplication because with deduplication, you can have spare storage space."
"Backups are much quicker now; previously, it took 15-16 hours every day, and now it takes 3-4 hours maximum."
"I think StoreOnce's deduplication technology is crucial for cost efficiency and faster recovery, especially for backup and data protection purposes."
"Backups are kind of one of those things where you don't want to worry about it, you don't want to be up at night fiddling with it, and I've probably gone from spending anywhere from maybe four to six hours a week tending backups to about 30 minutes a week."
"Support is the main thing; if we have any issue, it’s easy for us to track or investigate it, because we don’t have different solutions from different vendors."
"With D2D2T appliance, and backup jobs reconfiguration we are reducing the backup tapes count, as the appliance offers a fast backup and restore process and a data replication mechanism to a remote site location that ensures data center backups disaster recovery."
"The initial setup is very straightforward."
"DO IT!!! You will not regret it."
"The performance metrics, especially for CPU and memory, and for the overall performance of the servers have been found most valuable."

Cons

"The web-GUI is not intuitive enough for basic users and offers fairly limited functionality compared to a backup solution such as Veeam or Backup-Exec."
"I'd like it to be quicker."
"The setup phase is not so simple that an end user can plug and play to make it operational."
"We’ve experienced data lost. We’ve had three stores go off-line (which were recoverable) and had a disk become corrupt at the service set/couplet level."
"An improvement would be an improved deduplication algorithm."
"When it comes to upgrading, it always goes block-wise. One block is 48 TB raw capacity. It would be good if they can include a smaller capacity for SMB customers. Currently, it is not possible to increase in a smaller capacity. You have to buy the exact same unit. It would be great if they can provide a smaller next block. There are around 20 hard disks, and it would be really helpful if we can add 10 hard disks initially and 10 hard disks later."
"The solution's technical support should be faster."
"I don't see any new features that we could want or anything that could be done along those lines. Just that we need a bigger machine, so more speed."
"Scalability is my sore spot."
"The solution could always be more easily scalable."
"The number of similar alerts is the main area for improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would rate it around two or three because, compared to others, it tends to be higher priced."
"The price of the product is reasonable."
"I think the product is competitive in terms of pricing. Other products like the one from Dell are costlier compared to the tool."
"With the same capacity of Data Domain and ExaGrid, which is 80 terabytes, HPE is the cheapest one."
"The product's pricing is medium."
"The product is not expensive. It is available at a good price."
"The solution is pretty expensive."
"I rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten."
