Collaborate effectively with partners and benefit from robust data management capabilities
The functions of HPE StoreOnce that I find most valuable are its deduplication and replication options. These features save data and reduce the size of data significantly. If the actual size for backup data is 100 terabytes, using StoreOnce, it will be around less than 10% of the original size due to the 1 to 10 deduplication ratio. So, compression and replication are critical features I appreciate. Additionally, adaptive backup and restore capabilities of HPE StoreOnce are indeed very helpful functions. As I know from my technical team, the process is very easy for end users because the GUI and user experience with StoreOnce are straightforward. They can restore their backups at any time. An important feature of StoreOnce is that they can reserve an amount of storage capacity as protected capacity for a limited time, safeguarding their data against intrusion and other interactions. Based on feedback from customers, StoreOnce is regarded as a highly useful solution for backup. I am satisfied with the security aspects of HPE StoreOnce, but it's crucial for any company to maintain a multi-layer security approach. Starting with a firewall is essential for maintaining their environment. Additionally, security features on StoreOnce are useful. I believe that no company should rely solely on one layer of security; they should adopt a multi-layer security strategy that begins at the network level and extends to their internal solutions.

Custom alerts and rich performance metrics have improved server monitoring and storage planning
We use customizable alerts extensively with different services, because the exchange services are different from Active Directory or DNS or anything else. We have customizable alerts for each service. I do not use the historical data trends that predict future storage needs. Perhaps some of my colleagues use it, but I do not. I would like to see a focus on broadcast services in the future to make it better. Broadcast services, specifically TV broadcast services, would be valuable to us because we come from a broadcast technology background and would appreciate having some features related to that. I would rate this review as an eight out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"StoreOnce gives us full-system backups, meaning we need less storage capacity, which is very important to us because less storage capacity means we buy less hardware and have less overall costs."
"The speed and deduplication ratio are two of the most valuable features of the solution."
"When using de-duplication, backups take less space than they previously did, and this minimizes the costs to our company."
"The implementation is straightforward."
"The stability has been rock solid."
"The ease of use is excellent and the price point is very competitive."
"In terms of the way that we feel, or the way that I feel about StoreOnce, I think it definitely provided us with the opportunity to give the business something it never had before, and that is a true guarantee to the data that we have."
"The most valuable features of StoreOnce are ease-of-use and ease-of-configuration when compared to the old IBM Tivoli family solution that we're using."
"DO IT!!! You will not regret it."
"The initial setup is very straightforward."
"The performance metrics, especially for CPU and memory, and for the overall performance of the servers have been found most valuable."

Cons

"The initial setup is quite complex and difficult."
"We stopped investigating because we were not really happy with the application."
"The cost is at the forefront of everyone's mind."
"Pricing could be reduced"
"The web interface, ease of use, and GUI all need to be improved."
"The setup phase is not so simple that an end user can plug and play to make it operational."
"We did some calculations on, when it says in the sales sheet that we got this number of terabytes, but the system itself uses some terabytes. So what we ended up with was having 10 or 11 terabytes less than HP actually said that it would contain."
"We archive our backups on tape, so I feel like if we could somehow plug our tape drive directly into the StoreOnce device and set it up to where it would archive based on, if some kind of rules based engine or what have you, that would really be an improvement for us."
"Scalability is my sore spot."
"The number of similar alerts is the main area for improvement."
"The solution could always be more easily scalable."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten."
"We have got a perpetual license, and we have access to all the features. If you are using cloud banks, you can store the internal data in HPE Cloud if needed. You can offload the data to the HPE Cloud. It is a licensed product. We have got around 10 TB of cloud bank storage with a one-time payment. We specifically took 10 TB for very critical offsite backups. We can also increase it in blocks if needed."
"The solution is pretty expensive."
"The price puts me off. It's definitely on the high side."
"HPE StoreOnce is cheaper compared to other solutions in the market."
"The product's pricing is medium."
"I would rate it around two or three because, compared to others, it tends to be higher priced."
"I rate the platform's pricing a seven out of ten."
