Automated provisioning simplifies deployment and integration
The Oracle Database Appliance is customizable and has excellent features.I don't have any problems with Oracle Database Appliance because this product is very automated, with scheduler and automatic processes throughout. You can make small inferences and changes for creating all the specific modifications. The automated provisioning feature helps speed up the database deployment process because you can use one command or option to resize all the disks or increase memory, depending on the occasion. The Oracle Database Appliance has integration in OCI Cloud. The same services simplify all the manager work regarding backups, configuration, resizing disks, and other services. Deploying the Oracle Database Appliance both on-premises and in the cloud offers the same simplification. You simply input your database name and specify memory quantity, CPU quantity, and database size. The process is identical for both on-premises and cloud deployments. The flexibility of Oracle Database Appliance has helped grow business needs for many customers. Using the Oracle Database Appliance has positively impacted my organization because I can deliver it much more comfortably. Creating a database involves many processes, but with this solution, you just input the name and configure the network and other parameters. It is very similar to RDS in AWS services, where you specify the name, choose the engine, indicate parameter groups, VPC, subnet groups, and proceed. Both Oracle Database Appliance and RDS have greatly simplified the work.

Pros

"One of the most amazing features of dashDB is how it uses compression to get results in lighting speed."
"DashDB is a good product to work with and the extra cost you spend on performance, technical support and tools to work with is worth it."
"It will be MPP, so performance should improve."
"The way that it scales will help a lot of customers that are stuck with Netezza boxes that can't grow any larger."
"Since my company is an IBM partner, it has enabled us to offer cloud data warehouse solutions on a 100% IBM stack."
"The performance is okay as long as the volume of queries is not too high."
"The performance is okay as long as the volume of queries is not too high."
"Ease of migration from Netezza DB; IBM ported over all Netezza's functionality and made the warehouse DB/dashDB the best of breed of the two."
"In my opinion, if your organization is constantly evolving and looking for less infrastructure support/planning for virtualization, then this solution is a one-stop-shop and a nice product."
"If the database goes down on one of the servers, the load is automatically shifted to another server. You can troubleshoot the one that is down without affecting uptime."
"From the day of installation we did not have any challenges with this product."
"The product is good value for money. It is a secure solution."
"Oracle Database Appliance is a stable solution. We have clients that have been running it for 10 years."
"I give it a nine out of 10 because it gives the customer easy access to a complete database solution within 30 minutes."
"The biggest value that customers are seeing, is that it's easy to install, quick to deploy, and easy to consolidate platforms; as opposed to building an environment from scratch."
"The product is very light."

Cons

"There are some limitations in adding data files to table spaces, and improvements are needed for regional support."
"I would rate the level of dashDB support 3.5/5. While they are very knowledgeable in many areas, you can still struggle to get the correct resolution."
"With dashDB, scalability and uptime need more improvement."
"The support channels need to improve."
"Ultimately, the product itself has challenges and we are not currently satisfied with the support, either."

"I would like to see improvements in backup and authentication. It needs the ability to increase the number of retained backups to more than 2 days."
"Db2 is not a solution that I recommend. We have a lot of experience and we are not satisfied with the product or the support that we received."
"It has limitations of Storage as well as network connectiivty over 10G Fiber."
"Virtualization needs improvement. It's not easy to back up the virtual machines in the Oracle VM architecture. I would also like to see native support for Veeam Backup Software."
"Sometimes, we cannot upgrade or patch it easily. The performance needs to improve."
"Oracle Database Appliance patching comes out two to three months after the regular patching cycle."
"In terms of scalability, it is not bad. It was not that easy to scale."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If your going to go with warehouse DB/dashDB, use the cloud or Sailfish version."
"Oracle Database Appliance is a very expensive solution. If you have opted for the on-premises licenses from Oracle, then you have to pay yearly. If you have opted for the cloud subscriptions offered by Oracle, then you can pay either monthly or yearly."
"Get benefit from the capacity-on-demand features. License your cores according to your licenses."
"The product is costly."
"The solution's pricing is very high."
"Oracle Database Application's support and maintenance are included in the contract."
"I don’t know ODA and alternative system prices. But Oracle the database license is quite expensive and a lot of my customers plan to migrate to open source databases like PostgreSQL."
"You must pay for the license."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing seven and a half or eight out of ten."
