Monitoring has become more efficient and resource usage has dropped significantly
VictoriaMetrics is built with memory constraints in mind, and we saved a significant amount of memory after implementing it. The first advantage is that it is quite easy to use, and we can leverage PromQL queries in VictoriaMetrics with a straightforward deployment process. The best aspect of using VictoriaMetrics is the reduction in resources including RAM, memory, disk, and other infrastructure requirements, which have all decreased substantially after implementation. We observed that RAM was reduced by around 70% and disk usage by 75%, while write speed increased 3x and query per second P95 latency became 7x faster. The financial savings are significant because we observed a substantial reduction in resources such as CPU and memory after adopting VictoriaMetrics.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"While some competitors have a feature here or there that might be better on the whole, this is the best solution for us on the market for the dollar with the simplest ramp up and ease of administration."
"The SMP and the xStats, which is for flat file integration, are both useful for integrating the various metrics that the device provides to monitor the performance of those systems."
"SevOne provides us with continuous analytics of our network and that gives us an idea of the health of our network, where our weaknesses are, and what needs to be fixed."
"SevOne really did a number for us, during the pandemic, of isolating which load balances were overloaded with users working from home, so that right there was worth its weight in gold because the management created all these reports for load balancers for access for remote workers and that's all they focused on for a couple of months."
"With this tool it is interesting to show the info to the client and explain where the traffic is."
"SevOne is the one tool which provides multiple features, and the servers or databases have different plugins that can be used to monitor various components of the network and applications."
"Based on my experience, the stability of IBM SevOne Network Performance Management (NPM) is excellent."
"It's good to go with SevOne because the creation of thresholds, of policies, the grouping of servers, that is easy."
"We observed that RAM was reduced by around 70% and disk usage by 75%, while write speed increased 3x and query per second P95 latency became 7x faster."

Cons

"You need to plan integrations. That has been the biggest bug with SevOne so far. For the things that SevOne pulls directly, those are easy to understand, modify, and put into the database. For things that need to use the Universal Collector or xStats, you need to plan that stuff well in advance."
"Licensing costs can add up quickly, so know what you need to monitor and what you don’t."
"With the administrative management of the appliance, if some object appears from SevOne because something changed in the network or whatever, then as an administrator you will not be aware."
"In the area of server monitoring, it has some areas for improvement."
"Although it is a very good monitoring tool, it can be confusing when you try to add devices and they don’t appear correctly."
"Would benefit with the addition of AI modules for proactive data insights."
"I think that the upgrade process could be improved, which can be painful at times."
"Their virtualization solution is not compatible with our Kubernetes environment, which is one of the reasons we are ending our relationship with them."
"The main area that needs improvement in VictoriaMetrics is the documentation itself, as the support is adequate and the open-source project does provide replies within one to two days."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool is not expensive. We were able to negotiate with SevOne on pricing."
"The pricing has not evolved with the market, which is one of the reasons we are moving to a new product."
"Although I don't have exact details in terms of cost, my experience has been that SevOne is willing to make a deal with the customer."
"It is inexpensive compared to other monitoring tools."
"For the value that you get from SevOne, it's worth the price. There are a lot of cheaper alternatives on the market, and even free options. But they require more staff, more resources, and engineers with more advanced knowledge of monitoring. That's what makes SevOne worth the price."
"Have a bank of licenses, because it is about the number of objects (RAM, ports, CPU, etc.)."
"Prices per license are not huge, but they exist."
"There are different options available for licensing, with the per-device option being more expensive but more flexible."
