It maps to our data format and then we insert it to the mainframe.
We want to see more API support from Transformation Extender. Right now, there is a lack of API support. It has an API that we always use; we use Java to call the Extender, the maps, with the external API. That API is limited. It's not mature. That's where I'm looking for improvements.

Reporting has become streamlined for year-end data checks but integration still needs improvement
When I talk about SQL Server, I am working with SSIS, the data integration tool. I am not entirely sure if I use SSIS as a library of transformations or if I personally work with an extensive library of transformations. I have integrated SSIS with SQL Server Management Studio, and I am very satisfied with the integration as it is integrated well. I am not using the debugging feature in SSIS because the developers would be the ones that would actually utilize it. I have noticed that in 2022, AI functionality has actually been implemented already. I would rate this review overall at a 7.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Any-to-any transformations are possible with this product."
"The most valuable features are the multiple capabilities that it provides."
"Every single feature of this product is unique, highly flexible, and scalable for the user's needs."
"This is a nice tool which converts one format of data to another format."
"SSIS integrates well with SQL servers and Microsoft products."
"SSIS' best feature is SFTP connectivity."
"The setup is easy to use and understand."
"The main value of any Microsoft product is the ease of use. You can achieve more with less time. That's what's beneficial for me. With many competitors, you might need to spend more time coming up with a solution because you have to focus on taking care of the product."
"The main benefits SSIS provides for my company is to streamline processes, and the reporting process is the most useful for me, as most of our data is captured into SQL, making it easier to pull the differences in reports for the year."
"The performance is good, it's easy to use, the visibility is great, and we have found the solution to be very straightforward to set up."
"The solution is easy to use and developer friendly."
"I have never had a situation where a particular transformation was not possible in SSIS."

Cons

"Things are working fine, except for the upgrade part. We are having some struggles with upgrading the product."
"One thing missing is marketing and awareness among the industry to use this product."
"Readability of mapping rules should be improved."
"We want to see more API support from Transformation Extender. Right now, there is a lack of API support."
"The high prices attached to the product can be an area of concern where improvements are required."
"There's no support for it at all. If you haven't undergone the qualifications, you wouldn't even know you should phone someone."
"The debugging could be improved because when it came to solving the errors that I've experienced in the past, I've had to look at the documentation for more information."
"Microsoft should offer an on-premises support warranty for those using that deployment. They seem to be withdrawing from on-premises options."
"You have to write push down join & lookup SQL to the database yourself via stored procedures or use of the SQL Task to get very high performance. That said, this is a common complaint for nearly all ETL tools on the market and those that offer an alternative such as Informatica offer them at a very expensive add-on price."
"The security could be improved, as it is more important in our context."
"Sometimes when we want to publish to other types of databases it's not easy to publish to those databases."
"Video training would be a helpful addition, however."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"SSIS is a cheaper option compared to the cost of other ETL tools."
"This solution is included with the MSSQL server package."
"The solution comes free of cost."
"The solution is economical. You don't have to worry about the pricing as long as you're installing both services on the same server."
"This solution has provided an inexpensive tool, and it is easy to find experienced developers."
"It comes bundled with other solutions, which makes it difficult to get the price on the specific product."
"Depending on the arrangement that a certain company has with Microsoft, it may supply the permanent license that is included in the SQL server license, or it may be a time-bound license if it is a partner license or other enterprise license."
"t's incredibly cost effective, easy to learn the basics quickly (although like all ETL tools requires the traditional learning curve to get good at) and has an immense user base."
