A valuable independent view of elevated access but the solution could be more organized
Our primary use case for this solution is for controls, which we deploy on-premises The independent view of elevated access and elevated instructions sent to our SQL are very valuable because they act as a secondary pair of eyes. The solution could be improved by using the proper filtration,…

Auditing has become tamper-proof and now secures sensitive financial transaction data
The most useful feature of Oracle Audit Vault is its ability to ensure that audits are immutable, as mandated by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs guidelines whenever an audit is happening for a single transaction, mainly for financial transactions. It separates the Oracle databases' information that is being audited and stores it in a separate location where no user has access, including the Oracle Audit Vault admin, ensuring that no one can change or modify that particular record, providing utmost security. User activity reports in Oracle Audit Vault are fantastic, informative, and specific. When a user makes any changes, both the pre-change values and the post-change values are captured and presented to the auditors perfectly, showing what the particular column had before and after the update, along with the user who made the change and the time of the change. Regarding automated policy enforcement in Oracle Audit Vault, I have experience with it, and I find it very important. Oracle Audit Vault fully supports compliance management for companies, with no doubt about its capability to maintain compliance from both audit and security threat perspectives. The correlation engine in Oracle Audit Vault is effective. It includes a data firewall as part of its features, so the threat mechanism allows users to block, snip, and capture all threats happening in the network.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's nice to have Idera where it clicks everything into central Repository, a central server, and you can just query that."
"Compliance Manager really was the only product, at that point, that was exactly doing what it was promising."
"The ability to track activity including the SQL statements is definitely valuable. I really like how the database is laid out. It's straightforward. I can query the back-end tables. I've made a few of my own email alerts based on the data and the tables. It's accessible."
"The independent view of elevated access and elevated instructions sent to our SQL are very valuable because they act as a secondary pair of eyes."
"It's cheaper than other applications I researched and it has the auditing capabilities needed for SOX compliance."
"Peace of mind - you can't really place a price tag on that."
"The tool can track logins and login failures. I made my own alert so that if there is a certain number of login failures for a server, it emails me. That is really useful. If I want logins to automatically lock out after a certain number of failed attempts, I can know when that happens."
"The initial setup was straightforward."
"Oracle Audit Vault was used extensively and our clients are quite comfortable with it."
"This solution acts as a complete data warehouse for our audit data."
"This will improve your infrastructure and make it secure for sure."
"All companies are looking to secure their data because people around the world are stealing data from IT, banks, and other companies."
"Reports and alerts are most valuable to us."
"You can use this as a good audit reporting tool and it is worth to use it as a high compliance risk tool."
"Protection, audit, and security of the database are valuable features."
"Before we implemented this product, our client had to query the database to create an audit report, but with this product, audit report generation is automated."

Cons

"I submitted a ticket (last year) about archiving/grooming of old records because the GUI functionality was not working. Per their recommendation, I ended up using a command line to do it."
"We have a lot of problems that have existed for a very long time. We have a lot of feature requests and several bugs that haven't been fixed for more than a year now."
"There is an agent that collects the data on SQL Server. Sometimes it will stop collecting. I'm not exactly sure what's happening but I have to go in and manually restart the agent. It would be nice if the central collection server could send a request to the agent to restart."
"What would really a good thing is if you could refer to an external list or table for filtering on, say, certain applications, IP addresses, or host names; or perhaps even combinations of host name and application name."
"There is an agent that collects the data on SQL Server. Sometimes it will stop collecting."
"The set up is kind of clunky, in my opinion. It's not really intuitive. If they had either a smoother install or better instructions, that would be nice."
"The solution is good, but its filtration and navigation are not the best and could be improved."
"We constantly have stability issues."
"The underlying mechanism for collecting SQL statements (REDO collector) is still based on Oracle Streams technology."
"Oracle Audit Vault is very stable, with the exception of some certificate issues that disrupted the environment for up to a month."
"According to Oracle, the best practice is that Audit Vault Server and DB Firewall should be deployed on different boxes (servers). There is no option to co-locate them together."
"Some of our customers were asking about the latency when the application wants to get to the database."
"Customized reporting is something that we are struggling with, and it is quite tough for us."
"The level of technical support was very low. They sent us an inexperienced technician."
"Sometimes, there is an issue with the system."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I feel the product's pricing is a good value."
"The pricing is pretty good."
"It's a good price value... The other tools weren't cheaper."
"The product is cheaper than other products I checked but it is still a good idea to check again and compare."
"The licensing cost is about $360,000, annually."
"For the bank, the license was $48,000 last time. That was the licensing for the bank on just one license."
"Oracle can be an expensive solution depending on the options and user needs."
"This solution is definitely not expensive, and it is a small fraction of the overall database licensing costs."
