Automation has replaced nightly monitoring and delivers reliable, unified job scheduling
We have really enjoyed working with JAMS in terms of notifications, alerts, and streamlining. There used to be a process with Automate, which is another product from Fortra, but even before that, the other division of the company that we were merging with had a tool that was built in-house called a file handler or file distributor. It was an in-house developed tool, but it was not as streamlined or as efficient as JAMS is. We literally had to have a dedicated nighttime person monitoring. Although we are 24/7, the divisions of the company that we were using JAMS for have been small scale. While we have automated it, we have streamlined it in such a way that notifications go out and alerts go out, but if there is anything, then we get paged and alerted, and if anything needs to happen at midnight, we can wake up. On the other hand, with the tool I mentioned, the file handler and distributor, we used to have a dedicated nighttime person that had to be sitting and monitoring it to see when a file arrived, whether it met the conditions, and then execute the next particular job. By using JAMS, we have gained a lot more efficiencies in terms of all of those to streamline it, and there is no necessary need for having an overnight engineer just keeping an eye on all of this.

We use Jitterbit to connect cloud solutions with our on-premises ERP system We connect cloud solutions to our on-premise ERP system easily using Jitterbit. It is its most valuable feature.  The solution's API management capabilities need improvement. We have been using the solution for almost…

Future-proof and powerful with great support
Improvements include: 1) Cost of the Software. Redwood is more expensive than most of the other Automation Software available today; they could make it budget-friendly. 2) It has limited reporting features. Some basic reporting features are missing. 3) There is no option to extract data in Excel. This feature could help in finding errors in the data. 4) Integration with ServiceNow is not supported. 5) The cloud platform compatibility is not up to the mark. 6) Security standards need to be improved. 7) Handling failure is not great; the workflow stops when a job fails and human intervention is required. 8) Configuration and set-up are difficult for someone with less coding knowledge. 9) They need to provide more documentation to assist new users.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has definitely drastically improved our capabilities to scale our automation. Before JAMS, there were a lot of manual processes. We had a couple of operators who spent all day doing that. A lot of the time with human intervention and human processes, it is as good as the person who may be following a procedure and human error is a big problem."
"The most valuable aspect of JAMS is its robustness."
"Our company is based on data. Everything we do is data-driven, so it has been very valuable having one place where we can process all of the data and do batch schedules with chunks of data."
"We looked at other companies, like VisualCron, that were cheaper, but one of the main sticking points was the fact that they wouldn't have provided a central location for us to monitor across all servers. That was one of the biggest selling points of JAMS."
"I like how you can add new execution methods on the fly. It isn't overly complex to add Python script support to an execution method in the JAMS system. The scheduling is excellent. You can schedule a maintenance window and take that resource unit out of everything. It halts all of the jobs."
"The built-in triggers are great."
"In summary, this product is top class."
"JAMS has improved our productivity immensely because everything flows. I don't think we could operate at our current staffing levels without it."
"As a Salesforce implementation partner, Jitterbit is our go to recommendation when it comes to Salesforce integration with other systems because of its streamlined, easy UI and wizard-based configuration."
"The Cloud Console for monitoring and troubleshooting data operations."
"The Jitterbit Salesforce Data Loader has allowed my team to be creative with the cost effective solutions that we propose to clients, since the Data Loader solution is free."
"Integrity, ease of use, user-friendly user interface, and errorless logs are the most valuable features."
"Jitterbit handles the most lines of data in a .csv and loads the quickest of any data loader I have tried."
"Jitterbit handles the most lines of data in a .csv and loads the quickest of any data loader I have tried."
"We only use small parts of the solution, however, the parts that we use are quite adequate."
"It really simplifies integrations, especially Salesforce related integrations."
"It is very easy and easy to use, and minimal supervision is required to run it."
"This tool helps us to monitor the job related to SAP modules."
"Redwood helps us to schedule batch jobs on a daily, weekly, and yearly basis to keep the business running smoothly."
"Our team was able to integrate it with the ITSM tool as well as security monitoring tools to make the incident creation process automatically feasible."
"Error handling and the recovery feature ensure that my job processes are not stopped if any error occurs."
"Redwood is more flexible and we can schedule the tasks based on different time zones."
"We can create and test micro-workflows to find defects sooner."
"We can achieve anything that anything that we would like to do. In SAP, it's not generally possible with just with SAP. So we have solution manager as an option, but run by job."

Cons

"I'm not sure if they have fixed it in a newer version, but there is no global search in the version I have. If I have multiple sub-folders that are named for business units, like HR or IT, and I have to search for a job, I cannot search from the top. I have to go to the HR folder to search for a particular job, or to the IT folder."
"For scalability, I would rate it as seven because when we have a huge volume, sometimes the tool is not so responsive."
"The UI could be better. There were some things that were not quite intuitive, such as the search tool. When we tried to search for jobs, we had to clear the entire search and then go in and enter the new search query. That's something that wasn't intuitive for a new user."
"JAMS notifications for hung jobs could be improved."
"The cost has definitely gone up tremendously. That is where I do know, as much as the feature sets are there, and if the newly acquired company is going to be doing a pushback, they might just say, 'Do we still need to pay this much? Or at that point, should we look into an alternative?'"
"Fortra is getting much better with documentation and examples, but there is still room for improvement."
"JAMS handles exceptions fairly well but there are some areas where it might improve a little bit. It has to do with being able to automatically handle exceptions, out-of-the-box, rather than having to code them."
"The only thing that they could improve on is the fact that they don't have a browser version of JAMS. It does come with a web client, but it's pretty clunky."
"Debugging: There should be a better way to track variable values during debugging. The need to print each log is frustrating when you encounter issues."
"The initial setup can be a little bit difficult."
"Sometimes we experience disconnections and I have to close all Jitterbit programs."
"I would like the ability to offer a dedicated cloud version for security."
"I know with Salesforce updating the UI like they did, it slowed it down a lot."
"You need to have some development skills or hire a Jitterbit engineer to make changes."
"The initial setup was pretty complex."
"In the past few months, there have been some server downtimes during work hours that have affected some critical scheduled integrations."
"Customer support should be enhanced so that we can automatically raise tickets and incidents in customer service."
"The reports are downloaded in .CAR file format, which makes it difficult to convert to an Excel file."
"The documentation for this product is limited, which can be improved in the future."
"Due to the abundance of competing automation technologies available on the market, connectivity with any cloud platform can be improved."
"The solution should have more focus on security standards."
"Enhancing the user interface would make it more appealing to new users with limited technical knowledge."
"The user interface of Redwood can be improved a bit to make it more user-friendly and interesting."
"I have not noted any downsides."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing model for JAMS is straightforward and based on the number of agents, not the number of jobs you run. It's cheap and fairly simple."
"The pricing is very fair. We have seen very minimal to no price increases over the years. We are not banging down the door of support all the time either. I would imagine if we were a company that submitted a dozen support tickets a week for the last nine years, then it might be a little different because we would be eating up everybody's time. However, for what we get out of it, the pricing is extremely fair. Back when we were originally looking and brought in JAMS, we were looking at a couple of the other competitive products that were in this space, but the pricing from JAMS was far and away better than what the other competitors could offer for the same functionality."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"All licensing models are a little overpriced, but JAMS offers a good value, especially given their support response times and ability to handle unforeseen issues like the SFTP transfers. I hope to find more use cases to get a better bang for our buck."
"Our licensing is pretty cheap because we have a state solution. So, we pay only $1,000 a year."
"The product is reasonably priced, and we don't have any add-ons."
"JAMS is relatively inexpensive, with additional costs only incurred for tags, other services, and optional support renewals."
"JAMS is priced competitively compared to similar solutions and offers flexible licensing options to cater to user needs."
"The Jitterbit price is based upon endpoints. They also offer ERP connectors with their Enterprise edition"
"Each business needs to determine if it is a mission critical aspect."
"The solution's cost is mid-ranged compared to other vendors."
"I do believe Jitterbit has one of the better pricing and licensing options out there compared to its competitors."
"The added bonus is that Jitterbit doesn't charge for any data volume/traffic."
"Jitterbit was extremely cost effective for us compared to other options."
"It initially surprised me because we went from an application that was priced by connection to agents/the number of agents to an application that was priced based on the number of job executions. At that time, many of the products we looked at were also priced on job execution. That seems to be more common in the business or in the vendors that provide solutions out there, but that was probably our biggest difference."
