Layered security has protected sensitive data and supports compliance across storage environments
There are always areas for improvement for MetaDefender Storage Security. One common challenge is the performance impact, especially when dealing with large volumes of data. Some users have reported that the scanning process can occasionally slow down storage access times, particularly in high-traffic environments. Another area for improvement is the complexity of configuration. Some users find that fine-tuning the policies and integrating it with existing infrastructure can sometimes be a bit complex and time-consuming. Additionally, while the multi-scanning feature is a huge plus, it can sometimes lead to compatibility issues with certain file types or custom applications. Ongoing updates and ensuring compatibility is key. Finally, user feedback sometimes points to the need for more streamlined reporting dashboards, making it easier to quickly identify and address potential threats. Overall, these are relatively minor challenges compared to the benefits, but they do provide areas for future enhancements. One area that could be enhanced in MetaDefender Storage Security is even more streamlined integration with a wider range of third-party security tools and SIEM platforms. That would help create a more unified security ecosystem. Another improvement could be more advanced machine learning capabilities to detect zero-day threats and sophisticated malware patterns, making the detection even more proactive. Improving the user interface and making the reporting dashboards even more intuitive could help security teams get quicker insights and take action faster. Additionally, better scalability and performance optimizations for very large data environments would be great, ensuring that performance remains smooth even as data volumes grow. Overall, these enhancements would just make it even more robust and user-friendly.

Data management and availability improve operations, but cost and support need attention
For snapshots, there should be something similar to a recycle bin. When someone mistakenly deletes a snapshot, it should be stored for about two days before disappearing from the system. Regarding storage optimization, when purchasing a 10 terabyte disk, after formatting, you can only use approximately 8 terabytes. They should improve this so users can utilize 90% instead of 80% of the disk space. The support response needs improvement, especially for P1 cases. When critical cases are raised, they should ensure they call the customer and follow up properly. Comparing NetApp ONTAP to other solutions such as EMC, the cost of contract renewals and warranties is relatively expensive. They should extend their renewal window beyond the current six months to one year options. A longer warranty period of two years for new systems, controllers, or filers would be beneficial. Overall, they should reduce subscription costs for businesses.

Pros

"MetaDefender Storage Security offers robust protection for storage infrastructure, data safety, and compliance, integrating seamlessly to safeguard against threats, making it an excellent choice for businesses handling sensitive information."
"Given the current market scenario, MetaDefender platform is the only platform which can cater to all these threats, whether they are known or unknown."
"Implementing MetaDefender Storage Security has definitely reduced incidents like malware attacks and data loss incidents."
"Overall, any industry dealing with sensitive or regulated data can benefit from the robust multi-layer protection that MetaDefender Storage Security promotes."
"Scalability is good. Now that we have the ability to add more nodes to the cluster, it's better. It allows us to grill our clusters allowing them to be larger and faster, without having to buy a whole new system."
"The ability to spin up copies of data in other data centers, on other storage appliances, is the most valuable for us."
"ONTAP has improved my organization by lowering budget costs. Deduplication, compression, compaction, SnapMirror, SnapWall, the transaction happens from one to the other. It's serving our needs just as expected."
"It's extremely reliable, very easy to manage. I've been able to reduce the number of people I have managing the storage systems because of the software."
"NetApp ONTAP is a very good storage solution that is easy for new users to adapt to."
"The fact that NetApp ONTAP supports NVMe over TCP is a significant advantage."
"The technical support is great. It's the best I've ever encountered. I can email and have everything resolved at three in the morning within half an hour. I have had some late night calls to their guys techs, and it's been phenomenal."
"It has also helped us reduce our overall cost of storage. Through dedupe and compression, we save a lot of capacity. Without that, we'd obviously have to buy more capacity. The last time I checked we were saving about 40 percent over our previous storage."

Cons

"One of the most frequently seen common challenges organizations face when implementing MetaDefender Storage Security is that the integration process into the existing infrastructure is complex."
"I wish to see a daily malware signature update feature in the future for MetaDefender Storage Security that updates the current malware signatures automatically."
"Improvements that could be made to MetaDefender Storage Security, based on feedback from technical staff, include better daily malware signature updates for automatic current malware signature updates and an improved integration process across complex infrastructures."
"The reporting features are not as user-friendly as they could be."
"It takes them a few seconds to do a failover. I hope they can reduce this to milliseconds or at least drive it down to less than two seconds. Some of their competitors are already doing this."
"The toughest thing that we have right now is a cabling issue. There are so many that you need to connect."
"The initial UI integration could be quite a lot better."
"We don't get the right engineer, the right attention the first time, so it needs escalation."
"The cost is quite high. They need to work on making it a bit more affordable."
"I would like it to be more user-friendly. When you open the main dashboard, anyone should be able to know exactly what is going on, even without a tech background. Minimal training should be required."
"The vendor diagnostics, which allows for movement from one vendor to another vendor using the application technology that is available. It should be able to talk to any vendor, not just NetApp to NetApp. We should be able to replicate the data, so the next feature should not be vendor specific."
"ONTAP's GUI does not encompass all the features available in the CLI."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There are specific workloads where some vendors provide better value, but in general, NetApp has done a far better on price than other vendors."
"It helps us save money using compression and deduplication."
"Because of the dedupe technologies and Data ONTAP servers, we have saved 20% on hardware. This is a lot of money for us."
"NetApp ONTAP is a pricey product, but you pay for what you get. I rate NetApp ONTAP a five out of ten for its pricing."
"Depending on the licensing you choose the price varies. For our company and our needs, the cost is very fair."
"NetApp ONTAP is moderately priced."
"ONTAP has helped us reduce the cost of storage by a lot. We were using IBM XIVs and were paying high costs, except for the maintenance. Now, we are on all-flash and we pay less than what we used to pay."
"The product costs an arm and leg; it's expensive."
