Has supported smooth channel partner integration and data analysis for several years
We use the existing services hosted in Microsoft Azure API Management without making any changes. For transformation capabilities, we utilize ADF, Data Factory instead of Microsoft Azure API Management. Regarding security features in Microsoft Azure API Management, we utilize token bearer authentication. As retailers with integration to our channel partners, we haven't experienced any security issues with Microsoft Azure API Management since it isn't exposed to external parties. We use a basic Azure function hosted in Microsoft Azure API Management rather than the integrated developer portal. Tracking analytics and performance analytics in Microsoft Azure API Management is straightforward. We use basic features for performance analytics and log analytics due to additional subscription charges. We enabled log analytics for Microsoft Azure API Management in the past month to investigate issues such as unreachable endpoints or request timeouts.

Authentication mechanism is easy to implement but improvement is needed in documentation
For API security purposes, we use the tool to host all our APIs. This allows us to take advantage of the security features provided by the platform. With the solution, we can implement rules such as rate limiting and restricting the number of API calls for each user. It acts as a secure gateway…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The package as a whole is useful for our customers."
"The solution is quite stable. We have no issues with it. there have been no crashes and we haven't experienced bugs or glitches. It's been quite reliable."
"The analytics phase of API Management is very beneficial for tracking API usage and identifying suspicious users."
"We're pretty much using all of the monetizations features out of the API manager so we can put up a portal and have a dev portal and then a prod portal and do rate limiting."
"The tool's most valuable feature is the integration of CI/CD with the API gateway."
"Azure API Management is an API gateway that can be used for different purposes, for example, to monetize APIs."
"The most valuable feature of Microsoft Azure API Management is the developer portal because it's very quick and easy to get something published."
"Azure APIM's best features are its straightforward access management (it's a single point of access for all monitoring and logging and for policy implementation) and its integration with the Azure Cloud infrastructure."
"Its completeness feature for the large enterprises, in my case for the government, is the most valuable feature of this product."
"The interface is good, and the policies that it uses as opposed to the features that it has in terms of security and the throughput management and those aspects are intuitive."
"Good interface, intuitive solution."
"It allowed us to publish and replace pre-essential transactions in one place, with a uniformity in terms of control and policies."
"The tool's authentication mechanism is easy to implement. We had to define a few parameters."

Cons

"Microsoft Azure API Management's most valuable features are the microservices we used to use. They were API callers to receive communication with the network and building system, to complete the request. The response would be through the processing system."
"It should be easier to integrate."
"They're trying to implement versioning and trying to be able to manage different versions of your API all at the same time, but they're not doing that just quite right yet."
"The cloud deployment performance could be better. Technical support could use some improvement."
"Technical support could be more flexible and try to meet the client's needs a bit more effectively."
"Microsoft Azure API Management could be improved by enhancing the visual editor of the development portal."
"The solution's deployment process could be slightly improved in terms of time. Additionally, they should enhance AI capabilities and more advanced integration features with other platforms."
"There is a limitation of 32 kb of data in the APIs. Having the limitation increase would be a benefit."
"The product has new features that we are going to implement in the next few months, such as API management and analytic reporting."
"Lacks an integrated billing feature."
"Akana API Management needs to improve its documentation."
"The version that we have is very old."
"We actually did reach out to the technical support and it was all right, not great. We didn't get the answers we needed."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The developer and standard pricing tiers of Azure API Management are very competitive compared to other products."
"We are paying standard fees to use Microsoft Azure API Management."
"Compared to other solutions the cost is a seven out of ten."
"Microsoft Azure is an expensive solution not for the large enterprises but for the medium and small."
"There are no additional costs above the main license."
"The price is comparable."
"The licensing cost for Microsoft Azure API Management is publicly available and goes from a developer edition that costs $26 to $30 per month. It may have changed, but it's in the neighborhood of $30 per month. I believe there's also the enterprise edition, which is highly capable and costs $2,500 per month."
"It's being paid monthly."
"For us, the pricing and licensing policies were for an on-premise installation with a fixed cost structure, that matched our budgeting policies."
