Has supported smooth channel partner integration and data analysis for several years
We use the existing services hosted in Microsoft Azure API Management without making any changes. For transformation capabilities, we utilize ADF, Data Factory instead of Microsoft Azure API Management. Regarding security features in Microsoft Azure API Management, we utilize token bearer authentication. As retailers with integration to our channel partners, we haven't experienced any security issues with Microsoft Azure API Management since it isn't exposed to external parties. We use a basic Azure function hosted in Microsoft Azure API Management rather than the integrated developer portal. Tracking analytics and performance analytics in Microsoft Azure API Management is straightforward. We use basic features for performance analytics and log analytics due to additional subscription charges. We enabled log analytics for Microsoft Azure API Management in the past month to investigate issues such as unreachable endpoints or request timeouts.

Authentication mechanism is easy to implement but improvement is needed in documentation
For API security purposes, we use the tool to host all our APIs. This allows us to take advantage of the security features provided by the platform. With the solution, we can implement rules such as rate limiting and restricting the number of API calls for each user. It acts as a secure gateway…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's easy to use compared to other products. It's easy to set up."
"The Application Gateway we have found to be the most useful in Microsoft Azure API Management. We have integrated the Microsoft Azure API Management with Application Gateway. Application Gateway is a type of load balancer that we are using for the high availability of our API calls."
"I like API Management's ability to do hybrid cloud stuff."
"It is a stable product, it's reliable, there are no bugs or glitches, it doesn't crash, and the performance is good."
"The most valuable features of the solution are its importing and publishing."
"The most valuable feature is its role as a linchpin in AI Hub architecture, enhancing data handling."
"The product gives API gateway-related features, like throttling, which are easy to use and low-code/no-code."
"We chose Azure because it's easy to deploy and it's cheap."
"The tool's authentication mechanism is easy to implement. We had to define a few parameters."
"Good interface, intuitive solution."
"Its completeness feature for the large enterprises, in my case for the government, is the most valuable feature of this product."
"It allowed us to publish and replace pre-essential transactions in one place, with a uniformity in terms of control and policies."
"The interface is good, and the policies that it uses as opposed to the features that it has in terms of security and the throughput management and those aspects are intuitive."

Cons

"If comparing it to other solutions, it is more of a legacy design with an older approach."
"Microsoft Azure API Management's most valuable features are the microservices we used to use. They were API callers to receive communication with the network and building system, to complete the request. The response would be through the processing system."
"The portal where we publish the APIs could be improved. I worry there is potential for a security breach in the API publishing."
"Upgrading resources is very costly for us."
"In the next release, Azure APIM should include deployment in various environments and CI/CD for deployment."
"The external policies are impossible to look at and configure."
"Other products offer more customization options."
"It would be better if it were easier to transition to Azure from JIRA."
"The version that we have is very old."
"Akana API Management needs to improve its documentation."
"The product has new features that we are going to implement in the next few months, such as API management and analytic reporting."
"Lacks an integrated billing feature."
"We actually did reach out to the technical support and it was all right, not great. We didn't get the answers we needed."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We pay for a yearly license."
"Azure is a pay-as-you-go model. You build out your virtual environment and pay a monthly price depending on CPU cores, storage, etc."
"Based on the resources that we are leveraging, the price we are paying to use this solution is slightly higher than other competitors. In a few cases, it has its own advantage in some resources."
"Microsoft is competitively priced."
"The solution is highly expensive. Our customers worry about the costs. The price should be a lot less."
"It costs around 30,000 Kronas a month, which translates to about $3,000 dollars monthly."
"Since everyone is isocentric here, it is reasonable for me."
"Because of our partner relationship, our pricing is pretty decent. But in general, if I compare pricing, I think the initial offer that we got from Microsoft until the relationship kicked in was more expensive than AWS. There were some unexpected expenses because we had to pause. This was due to our inexperience and because we were doing this significant public cloud migration for the first time. We were using SAP on a public cloud for the first time."
"For us, the pricing and licensing policies were for an on-premise installation with a fixed cost structure, that matched our budgeting policies."
