Integration streamlines security management and supports both cloud and on-premises environments
Microsoft BitLocker implementation requires careful consideration. When any BIOS change occurs, Microsoft BitLocker activates because it detects a potential vulnerability, which is its intended function. Since BIOS updates are necessary periodically, it is crucial that whoever implements Microsoft BitLocker knows how to recover the key, especially when dealing with important devices such as a CEO's laptop. The implementation process is straightforward, and it operates in the background. Once initiated, it continues to function even if the computer is turned off. It proceeds without user notification, which is beneficial. The progress can be monitored along with other relevant information.

Good support, stable, and offers encryption at both the column and table level
The most valuable feature is the data encryption option for columns and tables. We are also getting the benefit of detection data. If I want to share data with another Oracle user then the data sharing is automatically detected. We don't need to modify anything. This is a complete security solution and all of the features that we are using are available off the shelf.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Bitlocker is a very user friendly tool, which can encrypt our data within a few clicks."
"From my point of view, Microsoft is much easier than McAfee; it is easy to deploy and integrate with Active Directory, and you have much more integration capabilities than McAfee."
"The tool is stable."
"I like the simplicity and ease of use of this solution."
"I could advise any company to then deploy Microsoft BitLocker, first of all, because the product is free and the end user's computer performance is not affected."
"The ease of use is the most valuable feature, and the ability to import data to build your frontend on top of the data is very simple and very usable."
"It is easy to use and has multiple options for many uses."
"Feature-wise we have the ability to encrypt fast."
"The most valuable feature is the data encryption option for columns and tables."
"Overall, it is a good solution and I can recommend it to anybody who wants to encrypt columnar data and protect it against theft."
"The features that are the most used by the customers and partners are, at the moment, for GDPR, so obviously data encryption and data reduction. Our customers also like the partitioning option."

Cons

"The solution could improve by having a centralized GUI for management."
"More customization options would have been nice, such as password selection, actions when the screen is locked, etc."
"If the encryption was faster then it would make the experience more pleasant."
"The product could be improved by simplifying the implementation process and the integration between Active Directory and BitLocker could be better."
"For improvement, as it is now, I do not have any support from anyone. There should be a web interface to manage BitLocker. But for now, all I do is just install a new product on the user's machine and create it. I would like to be able to see everything that is happening, even if it is just through a web interface. I would also like to be able to see how many users are provisioned, which users are using BitLocker, and how to disable or enable it. That's what I would like to see."
"Remote management (e.g., enable/disable, reset, etc.) of PIN codes and recovery keys would be a nice feature."
"The migration itself is a nightmare."
"The management of the product could be made a little easier."
"Encrypting a single column is straightforward, but encrypting at the table level requires more work and takes longer to complete."
"It is really constrained as an environment because you cannot change something that would be useful. It is a very good product because it is very similar to what you have on-premises. Yes, it is constrained, but it is expected because it is a platform as a service so it has to be constrained."
"Having a single command to encrypt a table would be an improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Microsoft BitLocker is a free feature when you are using Microsoft solutions."
"The tool is cheap compared to the products offered by competitors. If one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the tool's price as one."
"BitLocker is included in our license and doesn't cost us anything extra."
"We already use Microsoft products, and Microsoft BitLocker is an add-on product that is free of cost for us."
"Microsoft BitLocker's pricing is included in the Microsoft license, and you don't have to pay an additional fee for it."
"We didn't pay for additional licenses since the solution is built into Windows."
"The solution is expensive."
"It is free. It is enabled as part of the operating system. Once you have an operating system license, you're licensed for Bitlocker."
