Monitoring has improved bandwidth insights and application diagnosis but setup and costs still need work
They need room for improvement about the spare parts. There are shortages in Egypt in their stock. We tried to make RMA for specific parts, and it took a long time. Comparing this to a vendor like Cisco, who provides any component next business day, NETSCOUT nGeniusONE took a long time. This needs more improvement. I believe it is expensive. They need to reduce its budget a little bit. Comparing to other solutions, it is very expensive.

Centralized monitoring has improved branch management and simplifies proactive WAN troubleshooting
The best features of Versa Director are centralized device management, SD-WAN policy configuration, real-time WAN and application monitoring, traffic streaming, and centralized troubleshooting, making managing multiple branches much easier from a single platform. The real-time WAN and application monitoring feature helps me monitor WAN link health, latency, packet loss, and application performance, allowing me to quickly identify issues, check which link is affected, and troubleshoot connectivity problems before they impact users on a day-to-day basis. Versa Director has positively impacted my organization by improving centralized management, reducing troubleshooting time, and providing better visibility into WAN and application performance. It has also made managing multiple branch sites more efficient.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution has helped to increase application and network uptime, reduced our mean time to repair significantly for application and network issues, and cut our overall troubleshooting time from an hour down to five minutes."
"It catches bigger issues on a weekly basis. That's how often we find something big enough that the only reason we know about it is because of the nGeniusONE. The bigger issues are mostly security-type issues: Odd traffic leaving our network or coming into it, that has found its way past a firewall."
"The biggest benefit is the ability to do low-level packet inspection. When I say packet inspection, I don't mean looking at payload, but just looking at your communication handshakes and the like. It reduces troubleshooting time because you can get a much better view into the communications path between servers, database servers, web servers, and understand what's going on."
"The generation of KPI-like information that feeds to the nGeniusONE (management) server is the most valuable feature."
"We are using nGeniusONE to run our bandwidth capacity management reports. In the past, we used to be very reactive, we used to depend a lot on suppliers to tell us which sites are our hot sites, meaning, which have high bandwidth utilization. Now we do this in a much more proactive way and we are moving to a more predictive approach in that aspect, thanks to nGeniusONE."
"We have a good relationship with NETSCOUT, and it's reflected in the communication and the service that we see from them."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is being able to drill down into any kind of troubles that are reported to us, by use of identifiers."
"Visual TruView helped our network team respond to potential issues before they became larger ones."
"Versa Director's best feature is the ease of configuration and customer and vendor management."
"Versa Director is a beneficial product for the environment my company has."
"Versa Director is the fastest engineering tool and is ideal for use without product management."
"Versa Director has easier customer reports, utilization monitoring, graphic shaping monitoring, configuration, template shaping, and deduplication compared to Fortinet and Cisco."
"Versa Director has positively impacted my organization by improving centralized management, reducing troubleshooting time, and providing better visibility into WAN and application performance, and it has also made managing multiple branch sites more efficient."
"I think the most valuable functionality is some of the policy pieces that are quite useful."
"The most valuable feature of Versa Director is analytics."

Cons

"When we would like to use a feature, we have to remove another one. For me it's a bit of a drawback; I'm a bit frustrated with it."
"It's not able to communicate with our probes."
"I would like to see improvements made to the user guide."
"The single pane of glass view is a challenge. I like the graphics, they're easy to understand, but when more digging is required, it's more complicated to get what I'm expecting."
"We see it overload once in a while. It doesn't have built-in protection. Therefore, once it gets too much data, it tends to crash. Then, we have to recover it."
"I'd like to see the nGeniusONE, the nGeniusPULSE, and the OptiView, their three separate products, work a little better together, a little more streamlined."
"On a network the size of ours, the loading times seem a little extensive, 20 or 30 seconds to load up some graphs."
"I would like to see an improved level of stitching between IPs."
"Versa Director's on-prem SD-WAN hardware and SSL VPN software are not integrated, so you have to buy a separate subscription for the SSL VPN."
"It requires some simplification."
"Versa could be more AI-oriented."
"Versa Director's deployment process is not the best."
"What needs improvement in Versa Director is maturity because, from an operating point of view, it's not mature enough. You'll still need to do a lot of research on Versa Director, so if it could mature faster, that would be very good."
"I think the one area that could be improved is that there are a lot of features; that is also an advantage but it makes things a little difficult, so I'd like to see some simplification so that there is less bloat."
"Overall, the features of Versa Director are very useful, but I would appreciate more advanced troubleshooting and reporting capabilities to enhance issue analysis and make it even faster."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool's price is okay. On a scale of one to ten, I rate it as a five, where one means it is not expensive, and ten means it is the most expensive."
"To capture more with the solution that we bought, you have to buy another InfiniStreamNG, and there are only four ports in the back."
"It can be expensive, but if you have a good configuration, based on what you are looking for, it's okay, it's manageable."
"Their pricing is very competitive with other solutions... But what I like about NETSCOUT's licensing is that it's shared across all their platforms. They don't create a new licensing scheme for every one of their products. So for nGeniusONE, you buy a certain license level, and it works on all of their products."
"I rate the price of NETSCOUT nGeniusONE a four out of five."
"The price is only for acquisition; it's not a licence."
"The scalability is good, but it comes at a cost. E.g., if you need 100 InfiniStream because you are sending gigs or terabytes of data to one InfiniStream, then you will have to purchase another InfiniStream, which are not cheap."
"Make sure you get the low down on your licensing and understand the licensing requirements before making a purchase, especially when it comes to an upgrade. Make sure that it suits your needs before you commit to it. For example, we purchased ATA at version 6.2.1. At that time, the licensing covered everything we need. NETSCOUT comes out with 6.2.2, stating that in order to upgrade, you had to purchase CyberStream licensing. Now that requires some additional funding from both a capital investment and a maintenance cost. That's something that should have been said, "Well, if you want these additional features, you will need to purchase these CyberStreams." Otherwise, we should be allowed to continue on the basic operations as it is now through the newer releases without being stuck."
"Having to buy separate licenses for the on-prem SD-WAN hardware and SSL VPN software makes Versa Director very costly compared to other solutions like Fortinet and Cisco."
