Straightforward to implement, scalable, and has good stability and documentation, but technical support could still be improved
My company has around ten users of Oracle Data Integrator (ODI). A team of two to five people handles the deployment and maintenance of the solution. The current client of my company has this plan of moving to the cloud, with the possibility of replacing the ETL tool altogether, which could mean that more data is coming up, so there may be a plan to increase the usage of Oracle Data Integrator (ODI). My advice to others looking into implementing Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is that if your database is on Oracle or SQL server, then Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is a good tool to use. My rating for Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is seven out of ten.

Good storage and reliable but needs a better dashboard
I use Oracle Database just for storage of the corporate database data and the finance data I use Oracle Database just for storage of the corporate database data and the finance data. However, I find the dashboard to be complicated and not user-friendly. The dashboard is not user-friendly, and I…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is Data movement."
"It has the ability to easily load slowly changing dimensions."
"All ETL code is stored in repositories in underlying database schemas. The number of users can access and work on the same solution using a client tool. So distributed teams can work on this tool in an efficient manner."
"The scalability is great. It's one of the reasons we chose the solution."
"One of the standout features of ODI is its ability to prepare everything on a vertical level and create reusable components, which adds to its value."
"It can integrate with more recent databases like Cassandra, Hadoop, and other more recent Big Data databases."
"Easy to understand, very developer-friendly, and has a big forum community and lots of documentation for support."
"The most valuable feature that we use is the Knowledge Modules."
"It stores a lot of data in a short time."
"There's a good online community that can help users troubleshoot issues."
"The solution is stable and has good performance."
"A very reliable solution."
"The most valuable features of this solution are the cost optimizer and partition exchanges."
"The solution is scalable."
"Oracle Database is stable. I'm quite happy with the performance."
"The most valuable feature is that it is a complete product with all of the functionality that you need, and there is no need for any special features."

Cons

"The initial setup is complex, especially if you also have to install a console."
"Oracle support services are not up to the mark."
"ODI components may not fulfill as much as Informatica PowerCenter or IBM DataStage. The pushdown optimization is not as effective as other tools."
"We used a third party to do the implementation of ODI."
"At present, when multiple steps are executed in parallel in the load plan and errors occur, the error handling mechanism does not function correctly."
"ODI could improve by being more user-friendly. Informatica, which is also an ETL tool, similar to ODI, but Informatica is very user-friendly, easy to use, and simple to integrate, compared to ODI. ODI has many features, put them all together, and sometimes we get confused about which ones to use, which ones not to use."
"It lacks a suite of tools suitable for fully processing data and moving it into decision support warehouses."
"An area for improvement would be the lack of SQL compatibility - ODI has no ability to interact with SQL unstructured types and data types."
"Probably about 80% of their online documentation is useless. When you go to the Oracle documentation, you have to plow through page after page of stuff to get to anything that looks anything like an example of what it is that you might actually do. There are lots of other people who have filled that gap, and there are also websites where you can easily find the answers to most of your questions."
"Technical support quality has dropped recently. They aren't as helpful or responsive as they used to be."
"In my opinion, the pricing of all the additional tools that Oracle provides is very complicated. The pricing model is very unfriendly for the user, and for the web vendors."
"Frankly speaking, Oracle Database is very expensive."
"The initial setup is a bit complex."
"It would be better if the administrator part could be simplified. At the moment, we need specialized skills for managing or administering Oracle Database. If that is simplified, my juniors or basic database engineers could use it. Right now, we need specific administrative skills to manage the Oracle Server."
"Their support portal requires a person to become well-trained in how to use it. They are pretty good at handling absolute critical emergencies, but with the exception of absolute critical emergencies, getting problems solved from their support system is difficult and takes a long time."
"The dashboard is not user-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) pricing isn't expensive, but it's not cheap, so it's in the middle. I'd rate the pricing as three out of five."
"The license can be costly, but in certain complex cases, ODI proves to be the optimal solution."
"The solution is expensive because of the model they use. The cost is for the license and for support."
"The solution is very expensive."
"Being an ODI developer, I never had to pay for this product. I know that the pricing/licensing is not really low, but the product is really good."
"ODI comes included when buying the cloud version of the Oracle database license."
"I rate the platform pricing as five out of ten."
"There is a standard license to use the solution but there are other costs in addition, such as hardware and operating system."
"We need to pay an annual subscription for the solution, which is moderately priced."
"The license cost of Oracle Database is more expensive, and this could result in some clients moving away from it."
"Oracle Database is expensive."
"Definitely, it's an expensive product."
"Seeing as a lot of our applications use Oracle, our team has been able to negotiate a better deal."
"Our customers sometimes complain about the price of the license, as it is very high for them."
"Pricing for this solution is on the high side. Their licensing policy also needs to be improved."
"The licensing is on a monthly basis. Improvement in pricing would be nice."
