Clients benefit from broad authentication and effective crawling but need localization improvements
Our clients use AppSpider to address security concerns for their websites. It is particularly used by customers who require security assessments One of the most valuable features of AppSpider is its broad range of authentication identification, which is a key reason for its utilization.…

We maintain high code standards with effective static code analysis and integration
SonarQube Server (formerly SonarQube) could be improved on the reporting front. Instead of grouping, I would prefer to scan the code as part of development and then generate a report on a daily basis among different units or projects, which is currently complicated. We need to change it to more of a portfolio report, where configuring or setting up things on the portfolio requires tagging at the ADO level.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"It does a scan that performs about 100 checks on web applications and produces a clear report on all of the vulnerabilities that are found."
"What I like most about AppSpider is that it's easy to use and its automated scan gives me all the details I need to know when it comes to vulnerabilities and their solutions."
"When it is set up properly, it can do scanning on web apps with multiple engines automatically."
"Rapid7 AppSpider is good at managing different applications. It uses applets and generates reports to cover the PCA/GDPR compliance requirements."
"The solution is highly stable, rated at ten out of ten."
"It is really accurate and the rate of false positives is very low."
"I would say that it is stable, as I am not aware of any major issues."
"The initial deployment is very straightforward and simple. The product is stable if configured properly."
"It is a very good tool for analysis despite its limitations."
"The good thing with SonarQube is it covers a lot of issues, it's a very robust framework."
"We advise all of our developers to have this solution in place."
"SonarQube does SAST and SCAs pretty well."
"It easily outperforms other static code tools — It's perfect as a static code analysis tool."
"It's enabled us to improve software quality and help us to disseminate best practices."
"We have seen a decrease of about 25% of issues from since we first started using it a few months ago, and my team code bases are getting better."
"The solution has helped us mitigate problems in applications before they were a bigger issue."

Cons

"The tech support is responsive but issues remain unresolved."
"Implementing Rapid7 AppSpider requires scanning and self-identification mechanisms. You can add different types of authentication to each scan."
"Integration could be better."
"One of the challenges I have with AppSpider is that it gives you a lot of false positives, especially when compared to other solutions."
"For Japanese customers, localization is needed. The product should offer a GUI in Japanese and provide Japanese reports for end-users."
"The product needs to be able to scale for large companies, like ours. We have millions of IP addresses that need to be scanned, and the scalability is not great."
"The documentation about integration with AppSpider is bad news and some integrations are quite difficult to do right now."
"AppSpider could improve in the area of integration. They need to add more integration opportunities."
"Ease of use/interface."
"SonarCloud can improve the false positives. Sometimes the gates sometimes act a little weird, and we then need to manually go and mark the false positive."
"A little bit more emphasis on security and a bit more security scanning features would be nice."
"The tool needs to be more compatible with C/C++ language"
"It creates the ability for the person who releases the authorized release, which is not good."
"I have found this solution creates more noise than competitors."
"It would be helpful if notifications could go out to an extra person."
"It does not provide deeper scanning of vulnerabilities in an application, on a live session. This is something we are not happy about. Maybe the reason for that is we are running the community edition currently, but other editions may improve on that aspect."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is expensive if you want to buy the Enterprise version that is able to scan multiple applications at once."
"The price of Rapid7 AppSpider cost 9,000 annually but there is limited usage. Large companies are able to negotiate a better price or a better deal for the usage with the vendor."
"The licensing cost depends on the number of users."

"The price is pretty fair."
