You need a skilled engineer to deploy it because you can do anything with this tool. You can see everything on the network. A good engineer will be surprised and have fun using this tool because it's very powerful. Deployment process: You need to build a recipe/layout when you want to deploy something. Once the recipe is done, you just have to copy it. So you really need a good engineer at first, but then any other technician can copy the recipe. You don't need to be an expert once the recipe is finalized. So, once you have it set up, it's easy to deploy. But you need a good engineer to deploy it correctly. You will get alerts from the system, but if you want to fully explore and maximize the tool, the engineering needs are different.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"RSA enVision provides the full system visibility of your events within your IT ecosystem."
"The configuration part is very easy...The technical support was sincere in their responses...I rate the technical support a nine out of ten."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the reporting."
"The custom dashboard and correlation alerts in this solution improved our incident response process."
"The most valuable feature is the management features. It's capable of managing large enterprises."
"The ease of log collection and stability of the platform are the most valuable features."
"We developed around this solution and received excellent support from the company."
"From my perspective, it saves me about two to seven hours weekly, as now I can easily check in one place all the logs and data in relation to attacks, and it also gives me an overview if a server is not configured properly."
"We were able to use the product to identify two security issues already."
"The all-in-one source for the needs of compliance has put everything into one location without the need of other applications and tools to accomplish the tasks."
"As we have to service several servers, we can manage them in a economical way, which is beneficial to our team and business."
"The main menu: You can see everything there, what is happening on the servers, and in the logs, you can view more details of each event."
"On any given day I could give you a different answer regarding the most valuable features of the product. The feature that is most important is the fact that it has a lot of features, that it's not just a log collection and correlation system, that it has a lot of other components built in. The bundle of features is really the killer feature."
"AlienVault has provided a nice, unified system for monitoring and reporting."
"We evaluated every single SIEM on the market, and the major difference that made AlienVault stand out is the unification, meaning the integration of technologies out-of-the-box, as opposed to having to do it on your own."

Cons

"In general, the solution currently isn't user-friendly."
"Sometimes the investigation panel and reporting engine work very slowly."
"Whenever you perform the query, it takes too long."
"The integration could be easier, it should support more products."
"RSA enVision log manager is out of date and is not in use anymore."
"Licensing could be improved to be more oriented towards Managed Service Providers (MSPs)."
"There is no future for this solution. It does not exist anymore."
"Creating directives is a pain on its own, but editing them can be a nightmare filled with tedious unnecessary steps."
"More information about what the alerts mean and how they are derived would be useful when determining their significance."
"The solution is a bit complicated. It could be simplified quite a bit."
"The UI and overall processes need a little bit more love. This shows in the error banners that come up when you select certain things. There isn't a day that goes by that the UI doesn't error out and I can't view events for an alarm."
"We would love to be able to create custom rules based on a series of events, to create rule-sets where, for example, failed logins to the VPN Server are logged and then when a successful attempt follows soon after, it triggers an alarm for a Brute Force."
"Those tools could be improved because AlienVault is a SIEM, and it added all these other features."
"AlienVault must improve their correlation feature. Some of the events do not match with the correlation rules and some of the correlation events are false-positive."
"User friendly interface could be an advantage. Sometimes we may face trouble when we were going through the settings of AlienVault SIEM."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"On a scale of one to ten, where one is low, and ten is high price, I rate the pricing a six."
"We no longer pay a licensing fee because it is out of date and don't pay for support."
"Use an MSSP instead. It is much cheaper."
"QRadar, ArcSight and Splunk are some of the most expensive SIEM products out there in the market and not everyone has the budget to buy them. In such cases, AV USM is a very cost effective alternative."
"It's saved security costs."
"I don't think the product's pricing is a good value because they try to raise the price 50 percent every year... AlienVault needs to understand that not all customers are huge enterprises... Their sales team is way too aggressive. The price they advertise is not always the price you get."
"We ran a few PoCs. The price and feature set were the best with AlienVault."
"They charge a license based on the storage. ATT AlienVault USM is a less expensive solution than IBM QRadar."
"It is a product that is priced in a medium range, making it neither a cheap nor a costly product."
"We pay around $12,000 a year including storage."
