Provides efficient data reporting while needing easier deployment and improved interface
Users tend to put everything into Excel, though I try to discourage this. The best feature about it for me, and for them, is the fact that you have a universe that is well made. This means you don't have those months that get assigned. You can just get to the point and get a report very quickly. Unfortunately, in some ways, it's a double-edged sword because it becomes more of a self-service ETL, even for the reporting team. If you have a decent universe and you just want to quickly get something together, it's very usable. Compared to Click, you can drop those reports very quickly.

The integration of TIBCO Jaspersoft with some data sources has limitations that I encountered, and it was not very straightforward. This was one of the concerns with TIBCO Jaspersoft. The limitations include compatibility with some drivers where we do not have adequate JDBC drivers, and because of that, I am not able to make the connection pool. I do see a negative side in terms of support. I am a little disappointed because when we report any defect, it takes time to get a resolution. There are also limitations on some connectors where we do not have connectivity established. These are the few issues I faced while using TIBCO Jaspersoft.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"BusinessObject's most useful feature is the semantic layer, which offers us the flexibility to go for ad hoc reporting."
"If I were to compare it with Power BI and I wanted to build proper well-formatted reports, BusinessObjects Business Intelligence does that much better. Power BI is just getting into that space. They've concentrated more on visualization, which is what the SAP Lumira does. With Web Intelligence, you are able to build reports that users can interact with. They can also do a lot of querying themselves. It is robust in terms of security and integration. It is also quite scalable."
"The report development tool called SAP Web Intelligence under the BI Launch Pad portal has been the most valuable feature."
"The platform is a complete enterprise-level tool where everything is integrated to suffice your requirement."
"SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform is definitely scalable."
"It allows the analysis of business data and enables decisions based on the analysis."
"Has features that can be leveraged to scale out and scale up."
"It provides flexibility for creating reports. It is very good for creating highly-complex reports. I like this solution because when I buy BusinessObjects, it comes with many components, such as reporting, dashboard, and data visualization tools. Its performance is good. It is running on top of SAP BW and SAP HANA."
"It's easy to use and maintain."
"It offers high processing power for report generation and is cost-effective."
"The reports I prepare using TIBCO Jaspersoft are quite user-friendly, and the look and feel are much better compared to other report generation tools."
"We can set any property dynamically."
"The solution is standalone with the flexibility to use visualize.js to embed within the application."
"With the online view, it's easier to create Ad Hoc reports. It has inbuilt reports so we can easily get data from the system and customize the fields."
"The designer is the most valuable feature."
"I give the stability of the solution a nine out of ten."

Cons

"The biggest area for improvement would be the dashboarding capabilities due to the recent change from Xcelsius to Dashboard Designer. This has created a gigantic ripple in many companies because the skill sets required are drastically different."
"The financial area in the solution has certain shortcomings that need improvement."
"It is limited for us because SAP is shifting toward the cloud, and we can't use a cloud solution for SAP BusinessObjects. SAP introduced a product called PlusTimes one or two years ago and another one that I believe was called Automatic BI. This tool is more powerful than BusinessObjects and other tools because it's provided in the cloud."
"The cost of this product, so every company is not suitable to use it. Because of the very huge amount of integrations, every organization can not use it."
"It would be good if they could integrate the possibility for end users to create end models for themselves that they can use, especially for site operators, and if they could provide the end user not only the self-service BI, but also the self-service analytics, based on a predefined model, the same way that Oracle did."
"Factoring in total implementation and maintenance costs, SAP BusinessObjects is too expensive. If you deal with a huge amount of data, you can go with BusinessObjects. However, if you are a medium-sized company with a modest amount of data, you can opt for another solution."
"Recently, it's become less stable if I am working on Citrix."
"Integrations with things like Active Directory and LDAP tend to be a little complex."
"TIBCO Jaspersoft would benefit from enabling you to run multiple reports in one file and incorporating more options related to multiple reports."
"The stability of TIBCO Jaspersoft needs improvement."
"The integration of TIBCO Jaspersoft with some data sources has limitations that I encountered, and it was not very straightforward."
"There might be some compatibility issues with the dashboard if we're using the latest version and some clients are using the older version. Some features might not be supported."
"The upgrades are not easy."
"The reporting templates have room for improvement."
"Jaspersoft should focus on user interaction features, and one should not expect it to suit every niche."
"I would like to see some analysis done prior to data extraction. The data extraction itself could also be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We purchase licenses through Epic. So, we get an Epic price as opposed to the SAP price. If we were going to use other products like Webby that they offer or exclusively use BI Launch Pad, it would cost a lot because half of our employees would touch it in some fashion. So, we use Epic-Crystal integration to keep the licensing cost down. I believe the BI Launch Pad licensing is something like $800 for each, and the Crystal Report licensing is something like $500 for each, but that's not what we pay."
"The SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform has to improve its licensing cost."
"I have always found SAP BI to be expensive. It is expensive even when you compare SAP BI Cloud with Microsoft Power BI. Power BI is probably around $9.99 per month, and the cheapest SAP BI is around $20, which is double. In terms of price, Power BI is definitely a lot better. If you have budget issues, you may want to go for Power BI."
"It is not a subscription model, but you must purchase a perpetual license for this."
"It is not an expensive platform. The licensing is for a package of users starting at 10 users."
"Just work with SAP to make sure you have enough licenses but don't go overboard."
"SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform is an expensive application."
"It is not cost-effective. It is expensive."
"Since I checked last time, only one annual license costs about $25,000."
"I find the price to be reliable and not overly costly."
"I would rate the pricing as four out of five because it's expensive."
"I give the cost of the solution a five out of ten."
"The pricing is cost effective because it is based on servers rather than users."
"The solution is a little bit expensive."

Jaspersoft vs. Pentaho – Which one to use & is there any need to purchase the commercial edition
Any company (be it technology, manfucaturing, human resource, ecommerce, SME etc) always has the need for Business Intelligence to some or the other extent. If cost is one of the consideration factor, then the 2 BI tools which are at the forefront are Pentaho and Jaspersoft. But, often the same…
