Code Dx lacks one aspect, the dynamic security part, known as DAST. It's not an on-premise solution; it's in the cloud now. There are compliance standards and data standards where the customer might need to have the data on-premises for dynamic security testing. So that is one shortfall. An area of improvement could be developing an on-premise DAST solution. The current one is a complete cloud-based solution, and that can be one of the areas of improvement.

The deployment process took me about 2 or 3 hours to deploy SonarQube Server (formerly SonarQube), although I do not remember exactly since it was done about 2 years back. Currently, about 10 of my developers are using SonarQube Server (formerly SonarQube) in my company. I do not have plans to increase the usage of SonarQube Server (formerly SonarQube) in the future as there will not be any requirement to increase. I am a senior software engineer and supervisor at Mozark Medical. My corporate email address is karthik.k.a.r.t.h.i.k.h.a.r.p.a.n.h.a.l.l.i@mozarkmedical.com. Overall, I would rate SonarQube Server (formerly SonarQube) as a 9 out of 10.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The customers were looking for something around static security and dynamic security, and in all those areas, they were looking for an industry leader with a proven solution. Synopsys is a Gartner leader, so I position this particular technology for the technical pre-sales part of it."
"The solution is stable."
"SonarCloud is overall a good tool for identifying code smells, bugs, and code duplication, but we've found that using Android Lint is more effective for our needs."
"This solution has helped with the integration and building of our CICD pipeline."
"I find SonarQube Cloud to be very user-friendly with an easy-to-use interface."
"The solution has a plug-in that supports both C and C++ languages."
"The initial setup is simple. It requires some security, but it's simple."
"The most valuable feature of SonarCloud is its overall performance."
"Overall, I would rate SonarQube Server (formerly SonarQube) as a 9 out of 10."

Cons

"The initial setup is a bit challenging because things are not easy. It needs a lot of technology adaptability plus the customer's environment-specific use cases."
"Any suggestions for potential improvements may include bill of materials functionality."
"There's room for improvement in the configuration process, particularly during the initial setup phase."
"Our developers have complained about the Quality Gates and the number of false positives that this product reports."
"If the product could assist us with fixing issues by giving us more pointers then it would help to resolve more of the warnings without such a commitment in terms of time."
"We're in the process of figuring out how to automate the workflow for QA audit controls on it. I think that's perhaps an area that we could use some buffing. We're a Kubernetes shop, so there are some things that aren't direct fits, which we're struggling with on the component Docker side. But nothing major."
"The product's user documentation can be vastly improved."
"The implementation of the solution is straightforward. However, we did have some initial initialization issues at the of the projects. I don't think it was SonarQube's fault. It was the way it was implemented in our organization because it's mainly integrated with many software, such as Jira, Confluence, and Butler."
"The solution is a bit lacking on the security side, in terms of finding and identifying vulnerabilities."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is more of an enterprise solution for budget-conscious customers. So, it's moderately priced. It's not for everybody."
"A low cost long-term solution for non-critical situations."
"It's a bit expensive for us. The currency rate of the dollar is a problem but it may be fine for other countries."
"I am using the free version of the solution."
"We are using the Developer Edition and the cost is based on the amount of code that is being processed."
"The developer edition is based on cost per lines of code."
"I requested this license for one million lines of code and they accepted this."
"Compared to similar solutions, SonarQube was more accessible to us and had more benefits, with regards to size of the code base and supported languages. Apart from the Enterprise licensing fee, there are no additional costs."
"This product is open source and very convenient."
